What are you binge watching?

I tried White Lotus. Didn’t like each of the six episodes I watched. Officially bailed last night. Just not for me, but I see the appeal. In general, I tend to avoid shows where the viewing experience is designed to be uncomfortable.

I bailed on Season 1 almost immediately. Skipped ahead to Season 2, thought that was fairly decent. Gave Season 3 a real try, but I just couldn't do it.

I watched a three part series on Amazon titled “Cocaine Quarterback : Signal Caller for Cartel”. Story about Owen Hanson who was a walkon on USC football team that won NC and teammate with Reggie Bush and others. Wild story.

It's not about Ken Stabler?

I posted a couple weeks ago about the HBO series “Task”. Just wanted to add another post about it. Six episodes in with one to go and I feel like it’s some of the best acting I’ve seen in a series in quite some time. While the show is a bit dark, the acting is spot on and every character plays their role perfectly. I look forward to each character’s part in each episode. They made me feel invested in their lives, whether they were good people or not. Final episode is this coming Sunday, so you’ll have a chance to binge it if you decide to start watching . I highly recommend it. It is not for everyone, but I thought it was excellent TV. Mark Ruffalo is amazing. Tom Pelfrey is amazing. For me, the cast hit this one out of the park.

I didn't see it but I watched this the other night. His story is incredible and he's incredible at presenting it.

House of Guinness. Netflix. Huge cast, no big stars. A fictionalized telling of the history of the Guinness family starting with the death of Benjamin Guinness, who made it a a major brewery and brought the family wealth. This has a lot going on, politics, violence, sex, love, betrayals, and more. It's really well done and it all happened during a very volatile time in Ireland. You've got the famine & poverty, loyalist control of most of the country and a growing Fenian uprising seeking independence. What course does a brewery chart to maximize sales and growth? How does it achieve that? What strife does it cause in the family? Very good, highly recommended.

Monster. Ed Gein Gein was the inspiration for Psycho. And to a lesser extend, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Silence of the Lambs. He was also kind of a godfather to Bundy, Speck and other serial killers. It is pretty gruesome but also interesting the way the story jumps around from Gein's life to the movies mentioned. Everything from a production perspective is done very well -- if you can get past Gein's high pitched and very soft voice. "Monster" is a series that focused on killers and next up is Lizzy Borden. You either like this stuff or don't. Let that be your guide.

I enjoyed this as well, and knew I would when I heard it was Guy Ritchie. The acting is great and the actresses in this series are absolutely breathtaking in a girl-next-door fashion.

Amilia Jones as Mauve, really impressed me.

While the story has a whole was good (not great), the acting and dialogue was just tremendous. Although there were a lot of twists in there, so maybe the story itself was better than good.

The last thing I binged was Alien Earth. And it was a struggle to get through it. I only did it because a friend at work wanted someone to discuss it with.

Emilla Jones as Maeve. She was the star of CODA, got some good recognition for that. I first saw her in Locke & Key on Netflix and thought she was a standout in that.

I agree. I thought Mark Ruffalo was quite good. The actors had great chemistry and it is a very good story if you like human tragedy.

I really wanted to like Task and it's material I typically love but it's comically bad. Tom Pelphrey is great in everything and Ruffalo is good in it but the show is horrible. They use every cliche in the book. I could immediately tell who the mole was. The law enforcement, and biker gang aren't at all believable in how they act and the decisions they make. The casting of the law enforcement is weird and not at all believable and then things go completely off the rails in the episode in the woods to the point where it's laugh out loud funny. It's such a disjointed mess I have to wonder if they changed writers a few times.

There was something I really didn’t like about the show that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Other than it being really predictable like you said the show was just kind of a bummer. Honestly, it might be Ruffalo. He’s a dreary leading man.

The other Ruffalo show that didn’t turn out good was “I Know This Much is True”. Great book, but the show really kind of whiffed.

I’ve got an excellent one most people probably haven’t seen due to bad title “3 Body Problem” on Netflix. Season 2 is coming up so perfect time to catch Season 1.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such an ambitious sci fi series that tackles some very thoughtful concepts - made by same people as Game of Thrones. It goes big and I enjoyed Season 1 like few other series.

10 out of 10 for me!

My best buddy was heavily involved with 3 Body Problem and he was a writer for the final season of Game of Thrones. He's the producer for the new 4 part Netflix series Death by Lightning which has an awesome cast and is getting great reviews.

He's a UConn fanatic, UConn grad, and he was the sports editor for the The Daily Campus back when UConn won their first championship in '99. He's been off and on working on a UConn project.

thank you so much for sharing. This is the coolest thing ever. Made my day to read this. I absolutely loved the season one and I was thinking that I haven't seen something of this quality in quite some time. Like something that actually challenging you to think a little bit.

yeah, and i'm also UConn grad also been in a short movie myself :) in a lead role. But I could never find time to pursue this work, unfortunately.

I watched the first episode of Pluribus and quit it about 2/3 thru. I wasn't in the mood for something that seemed like a zombie show but with kindhearted zombies. Three days later I finished ep1 and then watched ep2. And now I'm all in.

It's an original. Rhea Seehorn is fantastic as the lead, one of a handful of people immune to whatever turned everyone else into hive-minded "humans". And while it would seem Seehorn's character should be hopeless, turns out she has a secret power of her own because the hive-minded folks behave like super-woke progressives. You'll have to watch it yourself to figure out what that means. It's a bit more challenging a watch than Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, but Vince Gilligan seems to have another hit on his hands and IMHO, is having fun with it.
