What are you binge watching?

I've seen Jeremy Allen White in three things, Shameless, The Bear, and The Iron Claw and it's always the same emotionless expression.
He has a very distinct look and style to him and I think he’s playing Bruce Springsteen in a biopic which I thought was a pretty strange choice considering they don’t really look alike. I feel like I’ll be saying “Oh there’s the guy from The Bear playing The Boss” the whole time if I end up watching it. If there were a Gene Wilder biopic, he’s the guy you want…

I love South Park and last night's episode was good. But it looked like a lazy show thrown together with the help of shrooms over a weekend.
I suspect more time was probably spent with Paramount and their lawyers than writing. And judging by the final scene it was more likely ayahuasca.

Watched a couple episodes of "Untamed" on Netflix. Possible murder investigation taking place in Yosemite National Park. Stars Eric Bana and also includes Sam Neil. Not quite sure what I think so far, but the scenery is spectacular. At least some of it really is Yosemite, the Valley is unmistakable.
I should follow up on this. I stuck with it, was watching it with family. There aren't very many episodes. There were some elements I enjoyed, but it got harder and harder to suspend disbelief as it progressed. There was also less and less of the real Yosemite as it went. It started looking a bit moister and more evergreen trees...because apparently most of it was filmed in British Columbia.

City on a Hill

Went through two seasons pretty quickly. Worth watching because Kevin Bacon is so damn good in it.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

I stumbled onto this on Apple and figured I would give it a shot because Kurt Russell stars in it. I give it."meh". It's not bad, but it's not particularly good either. It starts out as the story of a girl with abandonment issues who goes to Japan to see if she can find out anything about her missing father. It turns out that the father had a double life and a second family in Japan, which seems logistically challenging, but apparently he "traveled a lot".

Ultimately, she connects with two other thoroughly uninteresting characters, one of whom is her newly discovered half brother. They pursue the mystery of her missing father only to discover that he was part of a government organization hunting Godzilla in particular and Godzilla like monsters. That gives the showrunners an excuse to throw in Godzilla CGI every few episode episodes.

Kurt Russell is the former founder of Monarch, along with the girl's grandmother. It is possible that he may be her actual grandfather, but they haven't revealed that yet. Apparently, Russell gave up control of the organization because he wanted to protect/be with the grandmother and the organization turned evil... maybe.

It's not bad, it's just that the three theoretically lead characters have only one trait, other than generic blandness, in that they each take turns being whiny.

Cumulatively, it's enough that I'm sticking with it for the time being, but nothing great.

I'm not entirely sure why I clicked on the first episode of "The Playlist" yesterday, but I'm now several episodes in. It's the story of Spotify, told Rashomon style, from the perspectives of the original business partners, the music industry, the coders, the lawyer, and the music artists. Don't really know any of the actors although a couple seem familiar from cable series. It's a Swedish production, dubbed in English. I thought the story(ies) were compelling, the acting pretty competent, some of the devices used to advance the stories - while likely used to keep within a low budget - were well-executed. Overall impressed.

I like it. I think Tojo and the production company Legendary have done a good job of creating a "Monsterverse" based universe over the last several films and this show. Not sure I'd describe Anna Sawai as "bland", she's cute and feisty. Very appealing. I like having Kurt's and Goldie's son Wyatt playing young Kurt.

If you haven't seen all the movies then there may be some gaps.

We kind of liked Monarch... definitely not the part of the Dad who had 2 families, but the appeal of the Godzilla type movie memories.

Just started watching the Jason Mamoa show about Hawai'i warlord...it's pretty good in limited (2 episodes) viewing. Now that's only because we LOVED Dept Q and need some filler.

Sandman. Season 2 is out. The casting for Morpheus, Nuala & Delerium is superb. Despite a few creative casting choices in season 1 (the choice for Death was just straight up bad but I am ok with Lucienne b/c the actress nails the character), the show is very true to the source material, which is brilliant. Just watched episode 3 and it was very good, I suppose because that story was very good. Gaiman is a master of weaving historical details, myths and legends together into a story. For Netflix, the production value is quite high. They actually must have spent something on this one for a change.
Yes, love the acting... I mean Sterridge is good, but a bit offputting though I liked him in Season 1. I have read a lot of Neil Gaiman and feel American Gods and Sandman are very good adaptions. Now we just need the Anansi Boys!

I haven't seen the movies, so you're right I may be missing some of the subtleties. Anna Sawai is a pretty woman but the character she plays is boring.

I didn't realize that the actor playing the young character Russell was their son. It's kind of funny because I frequently thought that it was good casting because he does look like Kurt Russell. I do remember him from the Falcon and the Winter Soldier show on Disney+.

Three leads though are just rough to watch. They wind their way from episode two episode and each take turns basically saying "I want to quit" while the other two say "no you can't quit." Then the next episode it's basically the same dialogue with the characters reversed.

Still, I haven't given up on it. I'd say I probably should go back and watch whatever the Godzilla/King Kong movies are in this universe, but I don't care about it enough.

That's on our list because we, to our surprise, really liked See with him as the lead, also on Apple+. For a guy who looks like he does, he has some reasonable acting range.

I am watching 1971 on Apple TV with my 22-year-old daughter, who thinks we are in the worst of times. She had no idea about such relatively recent history, and the music is awesome.

Started re-watching The Leftovers on HBO. I really enjoyed it the first time and the re-watch has been great so far being able to pick up on some stuff knowing how it shakes out. Super underrated show and concept.

I just rewatched the whole thing too. I think its one of the all time best shows. International Assassin might be the best single episode of anything all time.

It was only 4 episodes, but watched the whole Taurasi doc last night. Better than I expected. She really was the WNBA version of Larry Bird, trash talking and getting any shot she wanted. Too bad she played before anyone really got paid. And the part about her going to Russia to play and make her millions was interesting. I know many here could care less about the women's game, but she's a good story in addition to being one of ours.
