What’s next immediate need? PF or Center

We need a player who can play the 4 or 5. That gives us the most options with the current roster. But something tells me we still have a few moves that are in the works. And it is like dominos they all end up impacting more than one player.

Absolutely need another big. Those big lineups that Illinois and Michigan ran out there were piling up the fouls.

Ideally we get someone that can at least step in a defend some of the bigger fours we see that will go post up guys. Stew took care of that assignment this year. Ross isn’t going to hold up defensively in certain matchups at the 4.

I get it. I think the thought here is to go back to what we had with Clingan. We need to have ONE guy on the floor at all times that can dominate and defend the rim. If you have that on defense, the benefit of the mobility and shooting of Ross and Khamenia at the 4 far outweighs the defensive negatives.

Is Wilkins out? Would be great to have a true PG heir apparent.
It would be great to get a one year mature center (maybe Washington dude). Get a high school center for next year to play under jr/sr Hines.

Wilkins just committed to UK. Let's get him from the portal next season.

This is where I'm at, I think it would be nice but I'm just not sure how we sell that guy on minutes. I don't think it's ideal that we're playing Ross and Landrew for some minutes as the backup 4, but it also might be the only path to them getting the minutes they need

A lot of people looking for another 4, but here’s how it looks-

G Silas
G Solo
G Mullins
F Khamenia
C Hines

F Ross
F Landrew
C Transfer
G County
G Transfer

We don’t need a PF. This isn’t the NBA, Ross is that PF y’all are looking for.

Backup Center.
Supplemental PG.
Hail Mary internationals/emergency vets.

Natty.
Ross is hardly a PF. Maybe some spot minutes but we get really small with him st the 4. Rather have Ross stay at the 3. Stewart was definitely bugger and stronger than Ross . I really want a bigger 4 who is athletic to be honest. I hate we ate playing small ball when we meet huge teams with bigger guys at 3-5 over us. Maybe that is just the way we have to compete as we don't have the money to get a huge front line like Michigan, Duke and Arizonia had this past year.

i think for the vast majority of matchups this works. I’m scared of what we throw at the Bryce Hopkins, Mirkovic, etc. types. Maybe you’re just sending doubles and managing foul trouble between Ross/Landrew as the backup but that’s a really hard matchup for either. Stew saved our butts in a bunch of those situations.

2 Centers
1 -2 PF’s
1 -2 PG’s
1 Helicopter

I just don’t for the life of me see where the minutes for any type of significant player at the 4 come from, with how our roster is shaping up.

Don’t disagree with the sentiment of some big bruiser at the 4, but a lot of modern 4’s are exactly in the mold of Jayden Ross.

Okay…. Now someone be the first person in this thread to suggest WHO? That’s the part of this thread we’re all really here for.

When we signed Koroma last year, I was happy because I thought he could play the 4 or the 5 in a pinch. Obviously we didn't play him at the 4 because we had depth and he would have been a sieve offensively, but he could obviously defend both positions.

If we can bring in a guy in that mold, albeit with a little bit more offensive ability I think it would be a good move.

Yeah, so clearly the move is a veteran PG that’s willing to play limited minutes, and a veteran C that should be around 18 mpg.

As long as Solo is back we have the most stacked roster in the nation as of today.
I'd say us and Illinois. They returned their entire 3-5 and picked up Vaaks. I think right now they're PG is a frosh, but are in on the kid from Wisconsin. Michigan returns either of their bigs, they'll be right up there.

We need to grab what we had last year, a senior PG backup, some kind of backup C. Then I think we're good.

I don’t even think we need a significant player. I think we need someone capable of playing D against those guys. Their offensive ability is of less importance to me.

Is it too late to retain Reibe, or have both parties moved on?
It sounds like whatever we paid Khamenia we were not willing to pay Reibe. There is no doubt He will get whatever his Agent is asking for.

Stewart ans Karaban were bigger. Ross is juat not a 4 in any sense. He is a backup 3. Good thing if he does play there hopefully it is 5-8 minutes at most. Can you imagine Michigan's front court from this year with their 4 against Ross. It would of been automatic buckets inside for him all game long. Even Karaban who is bigger and longer had issues with him.

Yeah with thr players we have coming back and landrew I'm happy with the offense. Need someone to help Hines inside now. I think a versatile big who can play the 4 or 5 as a backup to both would be ideal.

For most matchups, Ross can get minutes at the four. We’re going to play way more big wings at the 4 than guys that are going to post up and play back to the basket. We just have to have a plan for those few that will.

If Solo returns (my guess is that he will), our starting lineup is set (Demary, Ball, Mullins, Khamenia, Hines). Ross primarily a backup three, with some time at the two and at the four, Landrew as a backup four with a little time at the three, County spending a little time backing up one, two and three and younger Ross at least listed to spend a little time backing up the two and three.

We will need a second five, an emergency five, a second one and maybe an emergency combo guard.

I know many want a Koa Peat type on the roster to give some minutes at the four but that isn't what Dan Hurley wants at the four. I believe he would be very happy with Khamenia for ~28 minutes, Landrew for ~6-8 minutes and Ross for ~4-6 minutes each game covering the four.

100% this is not 2010. 1 inch doesn’t disqualify a guy from being playable at the 4. He’s long, athletic, and extremely active. He would be a challenge for bigger 4’s on offense and would be far from a defensive liability vs 90% of NCAA teams.

Hopefully we can bring in someone for exactly that. A dream world is someone with Stewart's talent level, worst case I think we can definitely bring in a Koroma/Millender type who can use up some fouls

Need to get another center who can be a contributor. A little concerned about Hines getting in foul trouble.

Would also like a back up PG to compete with County and see how it shakes out come March.

Nice to add a beefy PF too.

The defensive negatives of Ross?

Wasn't Kimanis kid a mid major level talent when coming out of high school? Does he still have eligibility left? Would solve the back up PG issue
