What’s next immediate need? PF or Center

Wasn't Kimanis kid a mid major level talent when coming out of high school? Does he still have eligibility left? Would solve the back up PG issue
I think his kid is a team manager.

The defensive negatives of Ross?
The defensive negatives that some think are there, with him being “smaller”.

I do not subscribe to the defensive negatives thought process.

I just don’t for the life of me see where the minutes for any type of significant player at the 4 come from, with how our roster is shaping up.

Don’t disagree with the sentiment of some big bruiser at the 4, but a lot of modern 4’s are exactly in the mold of Jayden Ross.
I agree we need an athletic big sized forward like Tugler, Morez Johnson, Duke Brennan, the Worm, etc.

Absolutely need another big. Those big lineups that Illinois and Michigan ran out there were piling up the fouls.

Ross is hardly a PF. Maybe some spot minutes but we get really small with him st the 4. Rather have Ross stay at the 3. Stewart was definitely bugger and stronger than Ross . I really want a bigger 4 who is athletic to be honest. I hate we ate playing small ball when we meet huge teams with bigger guys at 3-5 over us. Maybe that is just the way we have to compete as we don't have the money to get a huge front line like Michigan, Duke and Arizonia had this past year.
Mullins
Hines
Nik K
Demary
Landrew

Ball?

ROSS
COUNTRY
BACKUP POINT
POWER FORWARD/ CENTER

I get it. I think the thought here is to go back to what we had with Clingan. We need to have ONE guy on the floor at all times that can dominate and defend the rim. If you have that on defense, the benefit of the mobility and shooting of Ross and Khamenia at the 4 far outweighs the defensive negatives.
I dunno about “far”. It does present an advantage on offense but only as long as threes are falling. When they aren’t, the accumulation of fouls and subsequent FTs is a problem. It works against less talented teams. When you get to the elite level teams, not as much

The Worm? Dennis Rodman?

6'7" 225 lb. Dennis Rodman?

Yes. We’re on post 43 and when I created this post I asked for possible suggestions.
Let’s get Kepnang locked in at center.

And to throw out a PG let’s get Jayden Reid.

Correct. He was athletic, strong, fearless in the paint. He could leap and was always in position to rebound. Or if you prefer a Danny Fortson type.

There are some available right now in the portal and possibly more before the 21st.
I don't think these last two spots are going to be difficult - will likely be mid major senior types, a 5 that brings some beef and fouls to give and a senior PG. I certainly don't have a pulse on either of those profiles, but I would not expect anything mind blowing, just serviceable.

I think Landrew gets some backup 4 minutes. That guy is a house.

A lot of people looking for another 4, but here’s how it looks-

G Silas
G Solo
G Mullins
F Khamenia
C Hines

F Ross
F Landrew
C Transfer
G County
G Transfer

We don’t need a PF. This isn’t the NBA, Ross is that PF y’all are looking for.

Backup Center.
Supplemental PG.
Hail Mary internationals/emergency vets.

Natty.
Ross is not a 4. He is going to back up the 2 and 3. UConn has a lot of finesse guys here. They need a bruiser at the 4 to defend some of the big offensive fours other teams are running out there.

Based on this thread, 90% of boneyarders think the NCAA is loaded with 6’10” 240 pound power forwards.

You’re probably correct. I haven’t seen Landrew play so I might be freaking out unnecessarily. Id just to have the right solution of and when we encounter the physical front courts and the Big East plays this style anyway.

If Solo and Braylon come back, they will cost a lot. Having spent good $ at the 4 and the 5, you essentially need backup 5 right now or a combo backup 4/5. Since Landrew has the strength, he can play 10+ minutes at the backup 4.

So the next needs are a backup 5, and an emergency 5. And either a backup PG or an emergency PG.
In UConn system and considering potential injury, you need a solid experienced PG. Not conversion of SG, but PG with experience so we do not run into a situation from 2 years ago and we minimize the exposure to rookie mistakes during NCAA tournament. Yes, mistakes can happen to the best, but part of roster construction is mitigating potential risks at each position.

I believe the right solution is another 5 capable of defending the rim at an elite level.

Defend the perimeter like maniacs, force everyone to attack elite rim protectors if they beat us.

Landrew is a 6'6" football player, long. Is more of a short PF than a true 3.

Hurley is going to have plenty of bench spots, so I'm guessing much of the next month is going to be him sifting through mid majors finding guys like Koroma and Millender to build some depth.

Is Darling kid still available? Solid PG and experienced. St. John’s took one of our kids couple years ago so why not pick up theirs and one familiar with their sets? We really need a solid PG none of combos or converts. Thoughts?

to Grand Canyon?!?!? This has to be about lots of missed promised or $$. His decision, but I am surprised. Either way that idea goes out the window.

Landrew has a 6ft 11 wingspan and can absolutely backup the 4 in addition to playing the 3. I think We are going to get another legit center to backup Hines or even possibly allow Hines to play the 4 at times.

Need the bruiser 4 first as there isn’t one on the team. Someone who is aggressive and gets to the line making FTs at a decent rate. Priority #1.

We need someone to go up against the Yaxel Lendeborgs and Bryce Hopkins of the tourney.
Definitely!
I agree we need an athletic big sized forward like Tugler, Morez Johnson, Duke Brennan, the Worm, etc.
I would put Brennan in that group as he was a Center at Villanova and not too athletic. I agree with the rest. Just sub Hopkins for Brennan,

Yeah that seemed a big step down from St. John's. Suprised he didn't catch on with a Power 5 team with a chance to play meaningful minutes.
