We're back to being bad for WBB

Just saw the TV stats for our semifinal game: 4.2 million viewers. Last year when we played Caitlin Clark it was more than 14 million. A ten million drop!
CC is just on another level when it comes to casual viewers being interested in her play. UConn though didn't just win they dismantled Three 1 seeds which made it look like the old days, even worse (for the opponents). The bad news is they will be just as good next year, maybe even better which means Geno will be back looking for 13. And that is BAD fro WCBB if you are a fan of any team not named UConn.

Neither semi was competitive this year, whereas last year's game not only featured Clark but a one-possession game down to the final second. I was thrilled the Huskies won this year, but overall, the last few games of this tournament were considerably less exciting than last year's.

The last title seemed like ages ago. I was honestly wondering if Geno would win another one. The landscape has changed so much.

When we played Clark it was on one station... Does the 4 million viewers count only one station? Since it was on ABC and ESPN... were both stations added together for this total? In addition to that how many people went to watch parties for the game? One TV but with 10-20 people there... that could make it appear to be less viewers.... Also how many people who watched the game against Iowa.... were actually in Tampa this year?

Lots of variables to look at...

With this team there is the possibility of something that was said , something that wasn't possible, win 4 NC 's in a row. This team with all it's potential and Geno's and Chris's coachinghas presented to me "THE POSSIBILITY " of 4 in a row again. Remember, anything is possible. All you have to do is BELIEVE!!!!! I believe it's possible. That is what you call "Bad for Women's BB " GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!

I was in VT recently (opening rounds at Gampel) and I could not find a sports bar that got ABC. They could get ESPN so if ESPN is not counted, they could be missing many or all viewers in VT. How do you count a sports bar anyway?

In what universe could any team be better by subtracting Paige Bueckers from the starting lineup. A year improvement, transfers, incoming recruits, doesn’t matter, any team that starts Paige Bueckers………

Everyone else improves. WCBB isn't static. Players improve over their 4 years. UConn's freshmen barely wet their beaks this year. Cheli and Ziebell are elite level players and you will discover that next year. Strong and El Alfy will improve. Team chemistry will start next season at a really really higher level than this season.

you ever seen moneyball? You don't replace page beuckers with another player. You replace her in aggregate when the 5 starters each get better by 1/5 of a beuckers.

How many championships did Oakland win ?

Along those lines, I don't pay for the network feeds (ABC, ESPN, etc) but when I went to my trusty YouTube feed, there were multiple live feeds of the games. No idea why, but it was great!

4.2? I thought I’d read that it was 8. something across all platforms.

IMO he would have won several more if not for all the injuries.
Yup, IMO a healthy Paige & Azzi plus any one of these 3: Aubrey, Caroline, Ayanna, & the results would have been quite different.

I believe it was 8.9 million at its peak, so the fact it was a blowout may not have helped.

Not only for the injuries, but also a few just missed :

1996, loss in semis to Tennessee in OT (83-88)

2001, loss in semis to Notre Dame (75-90) - Huskies missed Svet & Shea to injuries, lead by 12 at halftime, then went up as far as +16. D had a terrible shooting game (1/15) and fouled out.
Sue on NCAA 2001 - Player's Tribune

2011 & 2012, if only Elena had not made the decision to leave. 2012, loss to Notre Dame in OT

2017, loss in semis to Mississipi State in OT at the buzzer (64-66)
2018, loss in semis to Notre Dame in OT at the buzzer (89-91)
2024, loss in semis to Iowa by 2
