Welp, ACC stays together with a new agreement (LINK)

There are a lot of comments following this tweet regarding espn, acc network, how ratings are measured. Big picture, do FSU and Clemson lose out somehow or do they still have more viewership than everyone else

"Why would the ACC do this?

The simple explanation is that it's a low-budget conference with a low-budget mentality. The big wigs are appalled that FSU and Clemson actually want to compete at the highest level in college football and were willing to take them to court to get it done. If this is the ACC's version of payback, good for them. They have shuttered one of the biggest draws of the season to college sports' version of public access television."

I really don't understand why they are not thrown out of the ACC.
Unlikely in the near term, especially with defections likely to occur by 2036. Then I think it will depend on what the leftovers of the ACC look like. If they continue to be a top conference, it wouldn't surprise me to see the disparity of uneven distributions continue until it becomes untenable for Boston College to be a part of the conference. If the ACC ends up as being a step below the major conferences, then membership becomes critical, even for nonproductive members like Boston College.

Perfect example of why we belong. Just showed this to my neighbor. He’s a Florida fan. He goes, “So, they are the two worst programs in ACC since 2024?” I said, “No, UConn football isn’t in the ACC, we’re Independent”. He goes, “Oh yeah, I guess I knew that cuz basketball is in the Big East, I never really thought about it”. I had to explain the tweet.

He didn’t even understand because nobody really thinks we shouldn’t be in a P4. Even the people that say we shouldn’t don’t actually believe it, they’re just being nasty. We should be in the ACC.

Does UConn want to be in the ACC? The league plays terrible football and basketball (except Duke and sometime UNC and NC State). I think we are heading to a P2 for football.

If we found our way into the P2, it would be a massive surprise. We aren’t on their radar.

We need the money from the ACC or B12. Personally, I like playing basketball in the Big East, but we can’t do that long term and maintain our athletic department.

Virginia Tech just beat Providence (in basketball obviously) in a de facto home game for the friars at Mohegan. Big East really isn’t all that in basketball unless Nova and Georgetown get back to prominence.

Looks like Georgetown might be pretty good this year. Nova should recover quickly with a real coach.

The members make $50m a year in media rights. UConn makes $6m. The ACC is not that far off the BE in basketball. They still have Duke and North Carolina. As for football, we're not in a football conference

I think what he is saying is that there might not be a need to move to the ACC because since there is going to be a P2 it's not worth it in the long run.

For now they do. They won't have North Carolina after 2031. They're gone.

Even if the ACC were to collapse I think you have to join it (if offered). Would really be no different than what is happening with the PAC12/MW right now. PAC12 inherited money and was able to poach nearly all of the MW. There isn’t really a scenario where the NBE is in a leverage position over the ACC leftovers.

If it gets that bad then it will likely be worse. I could see the conference dissolve to the point where all that is left is Cuse, Wake and BC. At that point what would reform would be the same thing as the AAC.

Or they just lose 2-3 schools and it holds. That's the best case scenario.

PAC 12? They only took 5 schools and then struggled to find enough members to be official. It was sloppy and clumsy.
