For football viewership ACC is a three team league. If those three teams leave, the ACC conference TV deal would drop significantly in value. Perhaps BC could spinoff and join the Patriot league. But I am not sure if the Patriot league would accept BC football team.

It's kind of crazy to me how poorly BC underperforms given it's market. I think Boston is the best location for a university in the country. Certainly the P4 at least. They should have no problems recruiting based on that fact alone.

I think there are two issues. One BC appears not able to raise significant NIL. Second, Boston is a Pro sports town. Boston area shows little interest in college sports.

There’s some issues that Northeasterners might not understand. Boston isn’t a place that kids from the South dream about going for the most part. It’s a liberal, northern city with bad weather. On top of that, BC no longer does anything in sports, so they have literally no free marketing from prime time or playoff type television exposure. No one watches them.

People can minimize the importance of our basketball in the big picture, but the UConn brand gets tons of free marketing by winning stuff. BC gets nothing. I’m pretty sure they have a lot of legacy students and certainly, many Northeastern students. On top of all that, the football hotbeds aren’t exactly fans of the Catholic Church. They are full of Evangelicals.

I'm not going to kill Cellocgg for saying Boston is a good place to have a college. I wouldn't want to go to college there, but there are many jobs in many fields in the city.

The major point is that the city couldn't care any less about Boston College...

Not that I'd give credit to BC specifically or anything, but if my options to attend a college were Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Morgantown, Clemson, Blacksburg, Winston-Salem, or Boston, there is a pretty obvious winner in the "best location" department

Their lack of interest to the casual college athletics fan is magnified by the fact that they're stuck on the ACC network or streamed when they are televised. Perhaps the most glaringly bad number is actually Cal. Cal has had 7 televised games, including 4 on the major networks and yet they are still averaging under 600k viewers a game. BC with only 5 games streamed or ACC still averages about 500k. Both NC State & Wake have fewer total fans but average more per game.

Perhaps most impressive is Louisville with only 3 televised games, only 1 on a major network being middle of the pack in overall viewers averaging 1.6M per game.

I'm not sure what your intent was but here is my take. Boston is certainly a great place for a university given the number of excellent colleges in the greater Boston area and the entertainment options. It's not a great location for big time college football as has been heretofore discussed. Plus it seems bcu itself doesn't lend itself to the general population having access. The football stadium is an example.

GT and UNC have about 12 million viewers each with 4 games each on ABC or ESPN
VT and UVA have about 6.5 million viewers each with 1 game each on ABC or ESPN

It would seem a good chunk of the difference in viewership numbers would be due to the network. That has gotta be a big problem if part of the revenue sharing formula is based on viewership. The chink in the armor will only worsen over time

Take away the Top 3 and you are as non descript as the Big 12. FSU has big numbers and they aren't even all that.

I agree. My guess he has only lived in New England. For example Atlanta is a great city to live especially for a young professional.

Emory is exceptionally highly regarded and Georgia Tech is better academically than most schools.

That said, BC being within short driving distance of Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Brandeis et al doesn't provide any advantages for their athletic programs, nor does it increase viewership of their games.

Clearly it doesn't, or at least BC can't capitalize on their position. They should be set up for success and fans more than dozens of other programs but fail miserably, hence my points
