So it sounds like the rest of the ACC is absolutely desperate to keep FSU and Clemson in the conference to give them that much power. The rest must believe that FSU and Clemson have a far greater chance of getting a P2 invite than everyone else. As for UConn, UConn is only getting an ACC invite if there is a major shake-up, such as FSU and Clemson leaving.
 
I think that FSU caught the ACC misrepresenting....misrepresenting the GOR, misrepresenting the ESPN Media Agreement, willfully hiding the contract from members, not following their voting rules per the Bylaws, ESPN and Swofford collusion to include Raycom where Swofford's son was a honcho (at costs of millions to the ACC), and on. The emails between the ACC and ESPN might have been damning. Since ESPN went to the trouble to redact so much, I suspect that they were leary of what the judge in Florida might demand.

Once Discovery was ordered to begin by the judge, the case settled. I think that members were told that the total capitulation in the settlement was needed and that their media partner desired it if they were going to pick up the contract extension past 2026.

I pretty much had this one pegged from the get go.
 
There also was the threat of damages to be sought by Clemson and FSU in future lawsuits for these actions by the Conference...Clemson already stated that they had been damaged financially by the ACC's obfuscation, false information being disseminated to the members and the national press regarding the "iron clad GOR" , ownership of rights, etc.

ACC lawyers probably advised "We need to settle. Do what it takes."

Of course they are gone as soon as a P2 calls, there was never a point where they wouldn't have been. What it tells me is that they (and possibly another school or two) are a lot closer than we believed to getting that call.

I have always believed they are gone. Despite what some here like to think, FSU and Clemson are extremely valuable. FSU in particular. Additonally, UNC, UVA, Miami and Georgia Tech all have a lot of value if you want a strong presence in football hotbeds with growing population and improving demographics.

Why is FSU desirable? Tallahassee, Fla. there is a million colleges in Florida. Noles don't have a national following like others.

I am just gonna challenge the notion that college football can't survive without these teams.

College football can survive without them, but you are completely wrong in regard to the value of FSU. They have a huge fan base and get fantastic national ratings—like, among the best. Honestly, I don’t understand how you could possibly think this. It almost seems like a troll.

FSU will have a hard time going anywhere .They were great under Bowden, but off and on since then. Plus going around suing people isn't considered trustworthy in any group. There will be influential people in both
the SEC, and the Big who will say they don’t need the trouble.

For the record, I was speaking of UNC & UVA. I still believe that FSU and Clemson have higher opinions of their ability to get a P2 bid than those who will ultimately offer bids have of them.

They would be redundancies in the SEC (who I imagine will be working to alleviate the redundancies they currently have) and I have a difficult time believing the B1G would be willing to enter new territory with the B brands in their home states.

Yeah. I don’t think FSU is much different than UF nationally. FSU is a top 10 or so program in terms of tv viewers and fanbase. They’d be even stronger in the P2.

Also, don't underestimate the impact of having established themselves as being problematic conference members. One of the questions the presidents of the schools in any new conference would ask itself will certainly be "do I want to be in business with these people?" it wouldn't surprise me if the answer to that question was "no."

Unfortunately, we would know. However, it’s become fairly obvious that there was in fact an underhanded situation in the ACC and that FSU and Clemson are justified in complaining.

We were certainly justified in complaining when Pitt’s president killed the Big East while being in a leadership role.

Yes, but it’s ridiculous and easily explainable. I’m sure if given a chance to explain, UConn, FSU etc. could make their case fairly easily.

They do, when they are good, sure. But Florida is the big team in state and I just find them a tad overrated. That doesn't mean they suck. But, as a thought Experiment, eliminate the Noles going forward from College Football, what are we missing? What will be truly missed?

Just as their is a reason UConn is not in a P4 conference, there is a reason FSU is not in a p2. They just don't bring anything additional to the table IMO. They are not a required team in college football. We shouldn't treat them like they are Notre Dame, Oklahoma , Texas or Alabama .

The reason is the ACC GoR. They are absolutely a football power.

Yeah. You are just way off here. I’ve lived in Florida for many years. Married a Gator. Her family is divided pretty evenly between the two schools. I’ve never heard anyone argue that FSU isn’t big time like Florida is. It’s just not a thing. Both are national powers and FSU produces HUGE ratings. It’s just the way it is. The only thing that’s holding them back is that they are in the ACC. For a long time, that was a good thing, but not anymore. They need to leave and they will have a place to go.
