Well, I guess this answers that nickname question...

Hate to ask but isn’t it Guppy?

(I’m not trying to be the spelling police - really!)
I don't make the T-shirts Nan I just repost them. 😝 That said, I'm inclined agree with you.

Of course it's entirely possible that we're just misreading it and the nickname is actually pronounced Goo-pie.

I know we live in the age of NIL, and maybe it is just me feeling this way, but I sorta like a player to earn the shirt before it is being hawked to me. BTW I play Scrooge this year in the nursing home play of the same name.

Yes Guppy. Perhaps the ie to make it sound sort of like groupie? If I remember correctly didn't the upperclasswomen team members give Kelis a hard time over the Big Fish nickname right out of the gate? The Big Guppie tee rubs it in big time. But if getting dissed a bit can be adequately monitized, why not?

-ie would sort of be a feminine ending in French. Not that nicknames need the distinction and it doesn’t work that way so much in English. But … whatever.

My nickname ends in an -ie, and my late father in law insisted on spelling it with a -y because -ie is feminine.

Marketing cares less about correct spelling, not grammer, or even if they are using actual words. Splash is all that matters. Grab the eye, ear, whatever. Sorry Al (Davis)! Just sell Baby!!!!!

Also, I sort of thought guppy was more for an adult and the "ie" means more "cute little"... hence Guppie. sort of like in Spanish, adding an "ito" at the end of something makes it mean "cute little". I think LOL....

Unbelievable. Only here do you get such riveting discourse. No wonder they won't let us out of the Big East! Kidding of course. The brain power and the resulting discourse is great entertainment. If Kellis wanted to keep Big Fish she would have had a better chance at LSU.

Hmmmm…

Next thing you know somebody will start correcting the Fab Four.

Then someone else will confuse them with the VW Bug.

And before the orthographers are done conflating and correcting and confusing….

Actually, aside from the humor in this, it’s a pretty brilliant marketing move. UConn has been hawking player t-shirts for years with the players getting a cut of the profit as part of their NIL deal. By adding a colorful nickname, it’s certain to boost sales, and I do think there might be something to the whole “trademark” thing. You can’t trademark a common word like “guppy.” But you can absolutely trademark something that’s made up like, “Lil Guppie.”

Hoping Kelis makes $1 million off Lil Guppie. By the way, “guppies” is the plural of guppy.

Remember those days? The crisp autumn air biting at your cheeks as you practically vibrated with excitement, heading to Gampel Pavilion with your best friend? The roar of the crowd, a tangible force that made the floor seem to tremble beneath your feet. I do. Specifically, I remember the feeling, a sort of giddy anticipation that always preceded a UConn Huskies basketball game, especially back when Kelis Fisher was on the team. And the way she moved… fluid, graceful, yet powerfully assertive. This is why when I first saw the Kelis Fisher UConn Huskies Lil Guppie pose shirt, I was instantly transported back. It wasn’t just a shirt; it was a snapshot of a feeling, a memory woven into cotton. I immediately felt the pull of purchasing it… like a magnet.

Kelis Fisher UConn Huskies Lil Guppie pose shirt: A Provocative Statement in Modern Fashion

This shirt, the Kelis Fisher UConn Huskies Lil Guuppie pose shirt, has a certain… aura, you know? It’s the design, of course – the subtle nod to Kelis’ signature celebratory pose – that brings about such a strong recollection. It’s also the quality of the fabric, soft and forgiving, like a worn-in favorite that has witnessed countless triumphs and shared inside jokes. Wearing the Kelis Fisher UConn Huskies Lil Guppie pose shirt is like wearing a badge of honor, a silent declaration of unwavering loyalty to the Huskies. It’s a statement about appreciating talent, skill, and sheer determination. There were so many close games! I can almost hear the buzzer-beaters now.
