Agreed. With elite transfers, I think it's beneficial to transfer either your freshmen or sophomore years. You have that year off to acclimate and still have 2 or 3 years to positively benefit your new team. This will serve Stevens well... she's a smart player, but during her year off she'll have time to get physically stronger, learn the UCONN way and bond with her teammates. It's a win win for all involved in my opinion..

OAN: Are y'all looking at Jatarie White (SC transfer)? Don't let the injuries scare you... give her time to get healthy and I think she could be a star. She's a playmaker offensively, defensively? Blah.. but she just needs to play, period.

I don't know. The ND local media doesn't really do recruiting news. ND is believed to be looking at Chatrice White (Illinois). So they are in the transfer market for bigs.

Shame the best big on the market (Ms. Stevens) was from an ACC school.

Huge get!! It's been a long time UCONN has had a player at 6'6. But the skill set is just insane. And under a year sitting out with ncaa transfer rules, the coaching staff will have her at all American status the following year. This just changed uconn's status especially with the recruiting class that I have a feeling is going to turn into a blockbuster class. UCONN may struggle next season so all the teams out there get them while u can cause the following year UCONN will be the team to beat in my opinion. Huge get for the huskies!!!

I just mean over-the-top in her demeanor; I didn't mean it as a pejorative. I actually have a lot of respect for her because, unlike so many of her fellow LV fans, she stayed positive and loyal to her team even in their darkest days.

Yeah. I don't know much about White but from what I hear she can be effective. There are still good/okay players out there still awaiting transfer destinations but Stevens was pretty much the big catch that everybody was waiting for this offseason. Now that she's committed, I suspect we'll start hearing about more players soon.
 
I am beyond giddeeeee over this. We have another "shooter" this one 6'5 player that can handle, defend and rebound. Wow!!!!!!!!! And hopefully Nurse will be back and we'll have Dangerfield as a true pg. With Gabby and Collier.

UCONN and Geno and company played it smart. No publicity at all. We don't even know what weekend she came up. And don't forget, she also met her new teammates!

Agree. It's like all the other promos that are done - coaches mic-ed up, locker room speeches, tons of social media, and there is UConn. Very quietly doing their thing, their way, and not getting sucked into all the crud.
 
SCG.....................have you seen enough of Stevens to compare to A Wilson? My thought is that Stevens is more mobile with better range but not as strong a post player as Wilson?
 
She may not be Stewie, but she's as close as anyone will be in the next few years. The year of practice, she should be ready to rock, and roll when the 2017-2018 season starts.

I've said it more than once. EVERY TIME I log on to the yard, I hope to see that we have signed a coveted player. THIS is one of those times. With Stevens coming into the fold, we're back in business. Ladies and gentlemen, we got our BIG!!! :D

Come 2017-2018 season, it'll be business as usual. As I say that, I don't want to give anyone the impression that I'm conceding next season, far from it. I fully expect UConn to contend for another championship.

This is the best news I've read since UConn won the tournament. I wonder what the staff's reaction was when they got the news. This calls for a celebration, and I'm buying. The first round is on me.....cheers.
 
Interesting thought on this transfer. What kind of message does it send to high school players? The 2016-17 roster has got some serious talent, and most of that talent will be on the team in 2017 when AS is eligible. After 4 straight NCs, the top three draft spots in WNBA, is there a small shift in thinking, where do I want to play in college that will give me all the coaching and support to be a successful pro player. Oh, and there's the WC and Olympics too.

Stevens could have gone anywhere. In most cases, she'd be the featured player in other programs.
