Week 9 - Jan 1 to 7

Marquette will stay until Florida State leaves, thank you.

Marquette has wins over Arkansas and Illinois, both of which are better than Georgia, and one of which destroyed Florida State.

Not sure why you catch such a grudge like you do.

My grudge is with Creighton... guess Marquette catches strays by association. I apologize to the all the Golden Eagle fans. F$U can go... hopefully State knocks them off tomorrow.

And why Creighton? I didn't see the part where they beat up a small child.

Seems to me your grudge is actually with UConn. Historically it always seems to be someone in UConn's conference that takes the brunt.

I was looking forward to watching Iowa vs Iowa State in the 2022 Sweet 16 here in Greensboro, and a possible Iowa vs SC regional final. Creighton robbed me of those matchups. Don't have much of a grudge with UConn WBB... I blame the 2011 regional final fiasco on the Selection Committee. My grudges are usually teams that knock my teams out in March.... like Depaul, Michigan State, Maryland, Oregon, Colorado :oops:

Ha now we're getting somewhere ... so why wouldn't your grudge be against Iowa and Iowa State for failing to deliver your desired matchup?

Big South action opened tonight. A few surprises. Charleston Southern knocked off the Blue Hose from Presbyterian 61-57. High Point blew a 55-47 lead and lost 65-61 to Radford. Between the Carolina Panthers and my High Point Panthers... its been a bad year to be a mid-sized cat.

Iowa yeah..... but there seems to be enough grudges towards them so I won't add any ;)......and well you know I have a soft spot for most land-grants so I forgave Iowa State.

Bad week for the Bible schools. Maryland Eastern Shore beat down Lancaster Bible 99-37

Grudges against Iowa? Why I hadn't noticed that at all ...:p:D

Mainly from fans about 3 hours south of me

You really can't stop yourself from laying the jinx on whoever has the momentary lead, huh?

Final score 71-50. Why was TCU ranked again? For beating Mount St. Mary's?
Now, now, they also beat Nebraska ;)

Didn't see the game, but looking at the box score, Baylor had a really insane shooting percentage from 3. Shooting 52% with 13-25 and Fontleroy shooting 5-6? Wow.

I've got tonight's game between Michigan and Indiana on my radar. While Michigan recently beat Ohio State and Illinois, their losses to teams like Florida and Toledo were perplexing. Indiana seems to be playing well, but I haven't watched much of them this season. Still curious about their bench depth.

And who will Michigan have up against Holmes? Cameron Williams, has been taking out of the starting rotation and her minutes are decreasing.

Even though they are undefeated and ranked #6 in the country, still feel like Baylor is flying under the radar. They have a very balanced starting lineup and with Harmon out at Texas, it's probably between them and Kansas St for the B12 title. Interestingly, those two teams only play once--Jan. 22 at Baylor.

Baylor is legit this year and this is why they're now my "dark horse" pick for a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. They have a lot of weapons and a nice mix of veterans and younger players.

The winds of luck seem to also favoring Baylor this year. Their one challenging OOC game was vs. Utah, at home. What figured to be their most difficult game all season, the road game at Texas, happened 3 days after Harmon's injury and with Jones still out. As you say, they won't have to travel to Kansas State, nor do they travel to TCU. So they have home games vs. K-State and UT and a home-and-away vs. WVU, and not much else on the schedule. They could conceivably run the table, although probably will have a bad game somewhere in there.

I actually watched this game with great interest as I AM NOT a FAN of Baylor. While the first half was very close, it was mostly close due to the sloppiness of Baylor and then in the 2nd half, TCU completely unraveled proving their 14-0 record was built with straw. Why any of the voters look just at the records of the teams these days when so many analytic tools exist is beyond me.

On the "surprise" side of the equation for TCU, Sedona Prince played all 40 min and had 20 points (though her shooting was not great). This from a women who quit basketball a year ago due to continued injuries. Kudos to Mark Campbell and what he is building there but he still has a ways to go. .

I tried to follow and ignore the analytical side. I think Campbell is a great newcomer. Getting to 12-0 first year at a school is still an excellent accomplishment. Yes, they walked through a field of daiseys. Hope they can end up in the middle of the conference rankings in Campbell's first year. .

Campbell seems to have motivated Prince this year. Let's hope she keeps it up!

I wonder how good Vanderbilt is. They are quietly 13-1 with their only loss coming at NC St

A good test tonight at Miss St

Prince has a good chance for DPOY in Big 12; it's probably her or Lee

Arkansas having only 14 points at half vs a horrendous Kentucky team seems like a fireable offense...

Boy, terrible end of game management by Pitt. Despite losing the battle of the 3 pointers 8-0 , Pitt still could have won had they hit their FT's. Instead ND wins by 6 (Survives actually).

The Orange got squeezed tonight by UNC. There was a lid on the basket for the 2nd half for them. I expect they'll bounce back next game against BC.

NC State center River Baldwin had 21 points...8 rebounds and drew 5 charges but fell awkwardly nearing the end of 3Q and hobbled off the court. It didn't look good at all. Baldwin did have an injury history at FSU.

Yup, Pitt was close even despite the terrible management of the endgame. I found this result puzzling, because even with the injuries, ND has the talent to walk away with games against Pitt and Syracuse. I think the problem is Hidalgo -- she's a tremendous talent, but she may not be the pg ND needs at this moment. I don't know how she'll fit in next to Miles, who is a much better floor leader. That's going to be the challenge for Ivey, somehow negotiating a way for them both to be on the floor together. You can't sit Hidalgo down -- she's just too awesome. If/when Miles returns, can Ivey run a lineup like Miles Hidalgo Citron Westbeld and Watson, with Prosper Marshall and Bransford coming off the bench? That could be a formidable team.

Oh man, and she seemed to be carrying State in this game. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

I really can't cope with all these injuries this year

In the Duke Louisville game, Kiki Jefferson just came out in the 2nd q and walked to the end of the bench, and now the trainers are examining her knee.

With Baldwin out of the game, Florida State came back to tie the game and had a possession to win it at the end. NC State got the stop and then cruised in overtime.

I think I've only seen them once this year, too. Indiana's been hard to find if you don't have B1G+. I like watching them, as I have roots in Maine, so like to keep track of what Mackenzie Holmes is doing.

I thought they looked great tonight. They have a good core, and Teri Moren consistently preaches defense. With Scalia, Holmes, Garzon, and Parrish as scorers and Moore-McNeil running the show, their offense should be able to get them far enough.
