Week 8 games (Jan. 11-17)

Grand Canyon's rematch with the Aggies is not going well. 26-21 at the half as New Mexico State really is demonstrating a punishing defense. Their guard Echols had an amazing second quarter lighting it up ( 6 for 6) with 14 points and the Lopes are back on their heels.

The Aggies are again making things miserable for freshman center Katie Scott. She has one point at the half and the collapsing defense has made it virtually impossible for her to get touches

The Lopes close to 41-40 at the end of the third quarter. Little used Canadian Tavia Rowell comes off the bench to hit 16 points and keep the Lopes close.

Lopes earn the split with New Mexico State 61-52 with a strong fourth quarter. They hold the Aggies scoreless for six minutes and turn them over 25 times.

Freshman Katie Scott has a solid second half and comes close to another double double with 13 points and 9 boards.

Since Washington is on covid shutdown, USC managed to squeeze a game against UC Riverside into their schedule today to replace the opening left by the Huskies. Today at 3 West Coast time.

Somebody is going to get their first SEC win today. 0-5 Florida is jumping all over 0-3 Auburn, up 35-17.

I actually think Florida is much improved and has had many close games. Yes, Briggs is the primary reason but if Cam can continue to get recruits, this team could climb into the middle tier. Frankly, Austin should have picked this school over Ole Miss as I do think Cam knows his x's and o's where as Coach Yo...is alphabetically challenged...

Cal @ Utah is showing as postponed on the Pac 12 website.

edit--and ESPN

no details, I'm assuming covid related, Utah sure could've used this as a pick me up game

Not exactly the most eagerly awaited game on the schedule today, but worth a "yikes" nonetheless.

This season is such a mess. :(

Yeah, Florida definitely seems to be on the upswing this year, but remains to be seen how much of an upswing it is. It feels like Cam has been there for a while, but only 4 years...which just means that I'm getting old or my memory is just used to Florida being mediocre for a while.

Cal is in COVID Protocol and have cancelled their next few weeks.

#16 USF game is cancelled. Memphis cancelled the game and is choosing not to play over health and safety concerns. But Memphis' game on Wednesday with Cincinnati is still on.

That's too bad. Do they have any incentive to come back? This year has been absolutely miserable for them. Other than getting experience for the young players, doesn't seem to be much to be gained.

Virginia Tech leads Wake Forest, 40-33, at the half.

Wake has cut the Virginia Tech lead to 47-45...but Gina Conti just picked up her 4th foul. And we're not to the 4th quarter yet.

Wake and Virginia Tech tied at 62-62 at the 4th quarter media timeout.

Wake Forest and VaTech have combined for 1 FG in the last five minutes of game play. Wake leads, 64-62...1:01 left. VaTech ball.

Huge road win for Wake Forest...67-64. Wake improves to 7-4, 4-3 ACC. VaTech falls to 7-5, 2-5 ACC.

VaTech is much better than their record indicates.

This score CAN'T be right. The WarrenNolan scoreboard is showing UC-Riverside on top of USC at halftime, 36-19.

Maybe that score was correct after all. USC on a 16-2 run...38-35 game.

USC falls to UC-Riverside, 54-52.
Wow. That's pretty disastrous for a team that seemed to be finding its stride and got some players back from injury. What the heck USC?
