Week 16 games (Mar. 8–14)

Final: Nicholls advances to the quarterfinals, 67-57, over Abilene Christian. The Lady Colonels are now 10-13 on the season. They'll play Sam Houston State on Friday.

The two teams split during the regular season. Nicholls won in Thibodeaux, 89-82, but Sam Houston State prevailed in Huntsville, 72-58.

With the win, Nicholls exploded into the nation's top 250 in the RPI, up now to #247.

A force to be reckoned with.

“Defense wins,” said Nicholls coach Dobee Plaisance, whose team held ACU (14-10) to 33 percent shooting, including a fourth quarter where the Wildcats missed 12-of-14 shots. “We had to do our due diligence to respect not only that three-ball, but we had to do it knowing they can come off that dribble drive, too.”

Nicholls’ defense was able to slow down ACU’s second team all-conference forward Anna McLeod, who scored 19 points yet shot only 6-for-21 from the field. McLeod, who hit six 3-pointers in Wednesday’s victory over UIW, was 2-for-14 from beyond the arc on Thursday.

“We focused on McLeod,” Plaisance said. “What was more key was that we were accountable to guard one-on-one, but at the end of the day, it was just our intent to contest and contain.”

5-seed Central Arkansas eliminates 4-seed Lamar, 69-55 and advances to the Southland Semifinals, where they'll take on regular-season champion Stephen F. Austin at 2 pm Saturday.

Nicholls leads Sam Houston State 9-6, 4:48 left 1st quarter.

End of 1Q...Sam Houston State leading NIcholls, 22-19.

Sam Houston State and Nicholls knotted up at 32-32 at the 2nd quarter media timeout.

I concur

Idaho St. rolled Idaho 84-49 to claim the Big Sky championship.

Bowling Green will meet Central Michigan for the MAC championship.

At halftime, Sam Houston State held a 38-37 lead on Nicholls, but came out in the 3rd quarter on a 12-4 run. Now leading 50-41, 6:30 left 3rd quarter.

The Lady Colonels need to dig deep.

Sam Houston State running away from Nicholls now. 67-51, going to the 4th.

Nicholls out of gas. 80-56 at the 4th Q media timeout.

The Lady Colonels can work on strength and conditioning in the off-season, knowing next season will be better. Everyone is coming back (barring transfers).

Sadly the MAC is a one-bid league this year.
Two solid teams.
I know they've had 2 before, have they gotten 3? Missouri Valley will be 1 bid unless someone other than Missouri St. wins their conference tourney. Some of the tougher mid majors are a bit down this season.

Big West final will be UC Davis vs. UC Irvine.

In their last season in the MEAC.... the Aggies (my) of NC A&T advance to the finals with a 69-54 victory over Morgan State. They advance to play Howard.

Dobee seems like such a positive person...not the tyrant you seem to hear about some other WCBB coaches. I'm sure being a mother helps her relate to her players and make them want to play for her.

No fewer than 9 conferences play their championship games today. Another 4 are playing semifinals today.

All 13 conferences still in action are one-bid leagues at this point except for the Big 12 and Big Ten. But if Missouri State loses they will take an at-large bid.

Not a good year to be a #1 seed in a conference tournament.
Titles so far:
#1: 6
#2: 8
#3: 1
#7: 1

#2 Central Michigan beats #1 BGSU to win MAC

Funny [but nice] to watch GG jumping up and down with the coaches & players. (She's a CMU assistant this year.)
@CamrnCrz1974
Any predictions on CMU’s seed and whether BGSU will receive an at-large bid?
