Week 15 preview (Feb. 14-20)

Minnesota got routed by Rutgers, only their 2nd conference win this year. How long til somebody there can admit the Whalen experiment didn't work?

@azfan 's Northern Arizona ran away from Portland St., who I assume is sitting in the cellar of the Big Sky at 0-13.

Looks like Notre Dame is about to edge Georgia Tech in overtime.

Dara Mabrey was phenomenal down the stretch. Some really good shotmaking and decision making when Miles struggled some late.

That incoming recruiting class will either buy her some time or be a very attractive carrot to her successsor.

Holmes is back for Indiana, that's some really good news.
She certainly wasn't 100%, but definitely a step in the right direction. I think her absence has benefitted both Gulbe and Kiandra Brown.

I don't know what the problem is, but she isn't recruiting well, even in Wisconsin and Minnesota. She has a highly rated class coming in, but they're 3 guards and a wing. Until she can recruit some decent size, MN will remain in the bottom third of the conference.

.-.
Texas A&M lost to Ole Miss, dropped to 4-9 in conference...and they're still on the bubble according to Creme? They are #42 in the NET apparently. I gotta say the NET is just as dumb as RPI or any other rating system that came before.

I anticipated a blow out, Jack's scored 52 in the first half. 12 of 13 Jack's scored in this run away, the Viking's 11th consecutive loss. Portland State is winless on the road this season.

PS gave up 93 twice this year to Northern Colorado on the 7th and to Montana last month. Tough season for the Vikings who may not win again this season.

NAU, 13th in D1 in 3 point per cent was 5 for 11 from 3 as 10 players had double digit minutes.

Jack's are currently in 5th place in the Big Sky with 5 games remaining.

The Big Sky conference title is a three-way race between Idaho State, Southern Utah and Montana State. The regular season title may come down to the final game of the season between Idaho State and Southern Utah.

Eastern Washington has been playing spoiler lately. Beat both of the Montana schools recently, including the Bobcats tonight. Neither of those results were expected.

NC State's 37-point scoring burst in quarter #3 of Thursday night's 92-61 win over Wake Forest was a program record, the most points scored in a quarter since WCBB went to the quarter system.

After their unexpected win last night EWU is finished with the top three contenders. That's not to say they may not rise up in the Big Sky tournament and play a spoiler role but they will have no impact on the conference winner.

Prior to the upset last night EWU's only wins this year were Weber State (5 wins in conference) and Portland State( 0 wins in conference), aside from their upsets of the Montana schools.

EWU was held to 38 in their loss to Southern Utah earlier this month, scored 46 in a loss to Southern Utah in their first meeting in December, and was clobbered twice by Idaho State. So if Eastern Washington runs into the Montana schools they may pose a threat but Southern Utah or Idaho State won't have a problem if they meet EWU in the tournament.

Having said all that now watch EWU upset the Lady Jacks at home on March 2nd.

EWU is playing Sky High since Cooper Kupp won the Super Bowl.

I had hyped up Campbell earlier in the week.... so inevitability the Camels were dehumped by their fellow Baptist institution Gardner Webb today 59-56. The Camels couldn't fully recover after only scoring 2 points in the first quarter. Its hard for any mammals to overcome a 18-2 deficit.. especially a Camel. As a result of the loss.. USC-Upstate moved into first place with a 68-57 victory over bottom dweller UNC-Asheville.

Huge win by Iowa over Indiana
Very interesting. After being unable to find BTN+ via HULU Live and the Fox Sports app, I was watching the ESPN gamecast. Now if @Vowelguy posted this when the game was over, the gamecast was 15 minutes behind the actual game.

.-.
It was a blowout for 3 quarters and then Indiana scored 42 in 4Q to make it close!

Probably the most balanced scoring Iowa's had at any time this year. Czinano and Warnock both had over 20, Clark with 18 points and 12 assists (!!), and Marshall and Martin were both in double figures.

Not sure if Holmes' minutes were limited by foul trouble or she's just being phased back in. Anyway, Indiana gets its chance at revenge in Iowa City on Monday night.

It was the longest 3+ minutes I've ever seen on the gamecast. It seemed to be almost 20 minutes. Iowa was lucky to have had the 22 point lead going into the 4th because IU woke up. I'm happy as a pig in "you know what" with those Hoosiers losing.

I have BTN+ and can concur regarding Iowa's scoring balance. The rebounding margin to their advantage was huge as well, I believe.

The wild thing was Iowa had a giant lead when Clark struggled earlier in the game.

May have struggled scoring, but Clark made them pay with her passes early on. Indiana was bringing a very hard hedge when Clark came off ball screens, but wasn't recovering as quickly as they usually do. It resulted in a lot of uncontested threes and easy buckets for Czinano down low.

The balanced scoring definitely stands out, but even more importantly, and more likely to go unnoticed is, is Iowa's rebounding balance. So many games it's been just Clark and Warnock getting rebounds. And with Warnock injured for a while, the team really struggled there more than anything. Tonight all the starters had at least 4 and no more than 10. Great to see. I actually wish Clark didn't have as many triple doubles as she does because it's not a good sign when your point guard can singlehandedly outrebound your frontcourt.

Re: Holmes -- some of both. They are definitely bringing her back slowly, which was more apparent in the IU/Northwestern game on Thursday. But today Czinano was also doing a great job drawing fouls on her post ups. If Holmes can get her conditioning back by the postseason it will be huge for Indiana.

Iowa State clobbering Oklahoma at end of the 3rd quarter.
OU has had quite the fall recently.

If Iowa St can pull off a win against Baylor, they could win the Big 12. Thats a big IF though. Its at Iowa St, the crowd will probably be loud and rowdy, its certainly possible but Iowa St has not fared well recently against defenses that have been stingy.

ISU has absolutely no one to match up with Queen Egbo an NaLyssa Smith. But, with Baylor's very short bench, if ISU can get them into foul trouble and on the bench for extended stretches, that could give ISU a chance if they are also draining 3's.

I don’t see it happening but OU was able to slice Baylor up defensively. It’s always a different animal when you are on the road. Things happen. Hopefully it’s a good game.

BYU blew out Gonzaga today. They just about have first place locked up in their conference.

Here in the south, the phrase is "happier than a pig in slop".
