Hey gang - was out and about today, so here's the schedule for the week. Thirteen games b/w t25 and/or ORV teams.

ESPN is the only place where Wednesday's Creighton at UConn game is listed at 6PM. On all the UConn sites and on Peacock, game time is 7PM
 
The real travesty is that the #4 Texas at #5 Vanderbilt game isn't on a commercial network and has otherwise been relegated to SECN+. How in the hell is Texas A&M @ Kentucky chosen for the 6:30 SECN slot over a top 5 matchup!!!! 🤬 Somebody make it make sense -- we need to be roasting ESPN on every social media outlet over this issue and tagging all of the big names in our sport to speak out about this!

There is absolutely no way that a top 5 SEC matchup on the men's side wouldn't be on the primetime slot for ABC or ESPN. They talk about growing our game and equal representation, and then do $@#& like this.....SMDH. I'm so angry over this!

Washington has 9 lives, somehow still staying in the polls. I thought for sure they were gonna get bounced this week. Voters must be having a really hard time coming up w/ 25 teams worth voting for.

I'm not defending the broadcasting situation as it relates to WBB, but because of the Olympics, I don't see any other OTA network competing against NBC. I think that this is normal.
 
Vandy is up 99-80 (!) with 4:29 left in Q4. Only 38 fouls called so far 🤦‍♂️

The NBA should be jealous 😎

Wait! You're not interested in seeing if Kentucky can crawl back to 0.500 in SEC play with a win over Texas A&M??????

Well, Vandy did themselves proud last night. A double-digit win against a top-10 team. I turned it off in the third quarter, but it didn't seem as close as the score indicated.

Some folks were saying Vandy would wilt going through the gauntlet of the SEC schedule, but they're looking pretty good so far. Could very well wind up with three in-conference losses.

Also interesting is how many points their bench (six players) scored out of 102 pts ~ 0 on 0/7 shooting 😯
OU did have one non starter who had 13 pts but no one else on their bench scored either.
 
OU with 22 turnovers... They said the turnovers would go down with the addition of Chavez.

As already noted, she had to sit quite a bit of the first half with foul trouble. Do the advanced stats tell you how many turnovers occurred when she was on the court? (I watched the game but I wasn't concentrating on when the turnovers are taking place so I have no idea.)
 
Or maybe I don't even need advanced stats. Chavez had 2 TOs.

Chavez has a 1.35 A/TO, just a tad better than the team's 1.27. Chavez is very talented and there's no doubt that with good coaching she'll improve over the next three-plus years. But if Coach Baranczyk really thought Chavez would reduce team turnovers from the get-go, she's quite optimistic. It takes time both for the incoming player to adjust to the system and for the system to adjust to the player.

As has happened in other games that OU has lost, Raegan Beers just didn't get the ball much, and I find that more telling than turnovers. She was 9-10 from the field, Chavez was 0-11 from three. Vandy did a good job denying Beers, and she had 6 turnovers, but it's a pattern. In their six losses:

LSU Beers 5-8 Chavez 3-14
Kentucky 7-14 7-23
Ole Miss 6-12 7-22
Texas 4-7 3-13
UCLA 2-7 4-16
Vandy 9-10 7-19

Totals in 6 losses 33-58 29-93

Yes, that's largely on the coach, but Chavez has the ball in her hands a LOT, a lot of dribbling and random running around. In these losses, Beers is shooting a hair under 60%, Chavez a hair over 30. She's the point guard, it's her job to get the ball to the player shooting 60%. If she can't do it, maybe Verhulst should have the ball more, she's a good passer with the length that might be able to get the ball down low better.

I wasn't blaming her. I remember when Uconn played OU in the sweet 16, The announcers talking about their turnovers and how many are unforced. I think it was Rebecca, saying with Chavez coming in, that should help. I don't know if she was repeating what the coach said. It's obviously more than just bringing in a good/great point guard.

This is a theme for OU and Jenny going back to her big 12 games

Dynamic offenses but very very very poorly coached and disciplined teams playing defense and taking care of the ball

Until they fix that they’ll just be another middle of the road team. They’ll struggle much more once beers leaves

The TV schedule was locked in and announced in early October, I believe. And, I think every program is guaranteed to be on SEC TV (versus streaming) a certain number of times. Men's TV schedule is also predetermined prior to the season.

And nobody thought of Vandy as a top 5 contender when schedules were made.
 
This must have been either one awesome defensive display or neither team could throw the ball in the ocean. Might be worth looking up on ESPN+.
