Week 14 - Feb 5 to 11

With Gonzaga star Ejim with the Canadian National Team at the moment, the Zags had absolutely no troubles w/ hapless Pepperdine tonight.

111-93 final Iowa wins. 47 pts for Stuelke, astounding 17-20 from the floor, 13-21 from the charity stripe. Clark went ice cold after halftime but still scored 27, along w/ 15 assists.

The Pack gets vastly outplayed in the front court. State hangs their hat on rebounding and VT is +16 on the boards. River Baldwin appears hobbled, Mimi Collins had her worst game of the season. The starting front court for the Pack went 1-11 from the field for 6 points and 8 rebounds. Kitley goes for 25 and 13 and Ling and Ekh combine for 8-20 from 3. Amoore goes for 12/8/10.

VT snaps States 14 game home win streak … the last home loss for State was …. VT.

Hokies sole possession of the conference in impressive fashion.
If I recall correctly, the announcers showed a graphic that VPI was 2-40 against Top 3 opponents, the 2 being NCSU. With tonight's win against the Wolfpack, they're 3-40.

They’re not VPI anymore, they’re VT. And VT stands for Victory Time!

Even the computers knew

I’d like to see an LNIT contested among the 8 worst P6 schools. 6 autobids and 2 at large.
  • Xavier
  • Wake
  • UCF
  • Rutgers
  • Georgia
  • ArizSt

+ Pitt & Butler

TGIF y'all - today's PAC12 palooza of games. An opportunity for Stanford and Colorado to separate from the pack, either Oregon St or Utah to make a move, and UCLA and USC to stay in the hunt for a 1st round bye in the PAC12 tourney.

On edit - as of today, there were only four losses by top 25 teams, however, baring any upsets, there will be at least one tonight (OR St/Utah), one tomorrow (WV/Baylor), and two Sunday (L'ville/Syr, OR St/CO)

Raise your hand if you thought someone would score 40+ for Iowa tonight...and it wouldn't be Clark. Huh. Stuelke darn near would've scored 50 if she could hit FTs. Never saw that coming.

Have teammates ever scored 40 or more in the same season before? I know Collier and Samuelson both had 40 point games during their UConn careers, but can't remember if it was in the same season.

Clark with a bit of a dubious triple double--points, assists and turnovers. I don't think that counts officially.
Czninano never put up something like that and she was very efficient, but 17-20?????? :eek:Penn State defence in the paint looks to have been non-existent last night.

Has any team ever play seven top-25 teams in a row in conference play? Brutal schedule for Oregon with four of those games remaining.

If UCLA is still down Betts, I wonder if Arizona can make things interesting since Dugalic and Sontag are the the olympic qualifiers.

We have 6 games left and all are winnable but none will be easy. I just hope the team hasn't peaked too early.

I feel the team has finally jelled. IMHO Lauren Park Lane is a major reason for the team chemistry is so much better. Lauren appears to have emerged as a real good
point Guard, she has learned where to get the ball to the other players and IMO that is the function of the PG and is a major contributor to MSST recent success, I expect the success to continue and am looking forward to the NCAA tournament.

E Barnum struggled early in the SEC season. However she has really found her flow on offense. She is moving well without the ball and getting good scoring position. The last three games she has been 23 of 34 from the field and averaging 18 points a game. Huge improvement.

I'd put a few dollars on UGA.
I should've mentioned that the tournament will be held in Flint, MI. Winners of each game get to go home. The losers have to keep playing, and drinking the tap water. The last loser "wins."

Massey puts Xavier as the overwhelming favorite. The SoCar of the LNIT, if you will.

Georgia 72
ASU 86
UCF 96
Wake 139
Pitt 140
Rutgers 141
Butler 148
Xavier 289

I would think this kind of special tournament would warrant a more exotic locale...

Hell, Michigan
Barrow, Alaska
Caribou, Maine
Walstonburg, NC
Cape Horn
Matoaka, WV
Frog Level, VA
International Falls, MN
McMurdo Station, Antarctica
Siberia

Does the Big East get a special prize for having 2 participants?

Hell, Michigan

Hell will host the team motels.

All games will be played at the Dow Chloroform Arena in downtown Flint.

The Big East and ACC had teams that earned exclusive at-large bids. (Butler and Pitt)
Oops sorry, didn't mean to shortchange the ACC.

Games of this magnitude call for the exquisite confines of a transformed ballroom. Surely there is a Ramada or Radisson available.

MSU is squarely in 3rd place in the SEC and with a decent NCAA seed. No worries there imo.

In for the Caribou mention…..love that area.

The Dow Chloroform Arena is the cafe-gymna-torium at Flint’s PS 13 elementary.

Back to basketball games...
In the only Big East game today, Butler, at home, upset St. John's 64-59.

…. Just like that Butler plummets from its projected 2 seed in the LNIT.

Any borderline chance SJU had at the NCAAs pretty much dead after that.

Colorado really seems to be finding an offensive groove lately.

I've been out of town the last 2 years when Stanford has come to Seattle. Looks like tonight I am missing...a bricklaying convention. Combined 6-28 from the floor and 16 total points scored in Q1. Definitely a gouge out your eyes start.
