Week 12 preview (Jan. 24-30)

Don't recall them quotes for the ACC, as much, but I have heard same for the SEC. ;)
You missed the ACC homers' turn at the wheel, then.

Random thoughts--the 2 outgoing Vandy transfers have been fairly big disappointments with their new teams this year--Koi Love at Arizona and Chelsey Hall at Louisville. Love especially has done almost nothing, how in the world was she nearly a 20/10 player last season? (granted it was a very short season for Vandy)

?
A third? Vandys Newby to LSU I believe.

Stanford thumped Arizona St. I remember when that used to be one of the marquee matchups in conference each year. Not anymore. ASU could be headed for a bottom third of the conference finish.

Iowa had to go OT, but got a win against Northwestern. 52 combined points and 27 rebounds from Czinano and Clark.
Clark Triple Double 27-11-11 (uummm TO's)

Colorado probably shouldn't have let it go to OT, but got a much needed win @ Utah. This was a game the Utes couldn't afford to lose. W's are gonna be hard to come by. Sadler hasn't had much impact most of the season for the Buffs, but she's picked up her scoring the last couple games.

Utah is hard to figure out. Before the season started it was reasonable to think they would be led by the veteran guard group of Gylten, Maxwell and Martin. Not really happening. Maxwell has been benched recently, scoreless today, barely took any shots. Martin was pretty ineffective early in the season and hasn't been playing for a while, injured I would guess. Gylten is starting but her scoring is down.

It kinda feels like no matter what she does, always gets some criticism or second guessing. Is she perfect? No, of course not. But she's a darn good player who has been EXTREMELY productive from day 1.
Yes, she’s very talented. But 28 point on 8 of 22 shooting, with 5 assists and 11 turnovers is not a great performance. 11 rebounds for a point guard is pretty good though.

I just love it when someone glances at a box score and is magically an expert.

Like I said, always being criticized. It's getting tiresome already.

edit--just pretty good on the rebounding? Surely you're joking. It's more than pretty good.

Just another boring Friday night in the Pac 12. 3 out of 4 games went into OT. OSU pulls one out against USC on a last second put back.

The UW Huskies were feeling VERY charitable tonight, absolutely gave the game away w/ 6-21 FT shooting against the Cougs. 6-18 in regulation, no way this should've gone to OT. WSU wins by 4. They hit 12-16. I've pretty much given up on UW hoops at this point. Under Wynn they played tough against some teams, even pulled out some wins against teams they probably shouldn't have beaten, also got blown out plenty of times. It looks like their new thing is to be heartbreakingly close, but never pull it out. An L is an L either way. Headed for yet another 11th or 12th place finish in the conference. How the HELL did things get this bad instantaneously as soon as Plum and Osahor left? Just makes my guts hurt.

Was pretty shocked Colorado beat Utah, but the other two were about what I expected.

Stines and Ladine should be instant impact players for UW next season. I’m interested to see who they can land in ‘23. They’ll need some good forwards and centers to go along with that trio.

Her stat quite reminds me of Russell Westbrook. High usage rate with high TO's. The stat is ok if you ignore the TO's. But I will not consider it as a good performance night.

Counting on 3 Fr. guards to lead them sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. We'll see. Mulkey will be gone, not sure if Rees will return. Could have NO size next season. Was hoping Davis and Pollerd could help a little, but they have been getting zilch for PT. I just look at their roster and see a glut of wings, none of which can shoot or score.

UCLA fails to show up for the game and forfeits to Oregon. What a shame. Not sure what happens Sunday UCLA@Corvallis.

The forfeit doesn't do either team much good as it is not counted as a win or loss in NCAA tourney calculations. It does count and hurts UCLA Pac12 standing/seeding for the Pac12 tourney. Oregon loses a chance to notch a home win against a #46 NET ranking opponent.
This game is as gone as the @Northwestern cancellation and leaves Oregon with USC, OSU, Stanford, CAL and ASU (make up) at home. Facing AZ, ASU, OSU, COL, UTAH, and WSU (make up) on the road.

OSU led in their game vs USC < 4 minutes of the 40 minutes. Once again, OSU got many open looks and everyone on the team put up bricks (except TvO). Without TvO this was a 10+ point loss for OSU. Home court matters in a close game. OSU is now playing zone defense most of the game, and it is pretty darn good. I suspect this will be the OSU calling card rest of the season as the offense tries to catch up.

BTW, USC has some impressive talent. Their 6'4" freshman BIG is super athletic and going to be a force. I like this version of USC much better than Trak's version.

If UCLA doesn't have enough players to play Oregon last night, how did they confirm same day they would play Oregon State on Sunday? Injuries are a fickle thing, if they aren't healthy on Friday they just assume any injury will be healed by Sunday? And what if its not, they will have to pressure a kid to play when they aren't ready?

The Big South game of the year just concluded... in the battle of the Bulldogs... my NCA&T aggies rally from 16 down in the second half to beat Gardner Webb 90-88. A blocked shot at the buzzer preserved the win. The Aggies have won five straight games after an 0-3 start to the conference season.

In the battle of the Protestants.... My HPU Panthers defeat the Blue Hose of Presbyterian 57-47.

Texas Oklahoma more like a football game. People complaining about the DePaul team should see TX maul anything moving. Forearms flying everywhere.

For result oriented people, 40-39 OK midway through 3Q

OU beats Texas

Why isn’t anyone talking about Maddi Williams as a potential lottery pick? At 5’11” she has good size for a guard, can defend multiple positions and rebounds the ball very well. The past two years she’s become a very good 3PT shooter as well.

She is definitely under rated. Probably doesn't get as much recognition playing for OU but OU has made quite the impression this year.

@Plebe FWIW: TCU at #25 Kansas State (7:30p, ESPN+)
According to ESPN's schedule and what was shown during the Iowa State/Texas Tech game this afternoon, game time for tonight's KSU/TCU affair is 7:30p (ET).

The Mighty Camels of Campbell hadn't ost since Nov 28.... they were averaging holding opponents to 50 points a game..... they ventured down Interstate 85 to face off against USC-Upstate. In the upset of the year so far.. the Spartans exploded for 81 points and dehumped the Camels 81-60. The only other team to put that many points up on the Camels was VPI with 84. Just goes to show you that YOU CANNOT TAKE NIGHTS OFF in the Big South conference.

NAU on the road and refuses to defend Portland State for 3 quarters. The Jacks finish the last 8 minutes of the game on a 27-7 run and win 79-68. Jack's 7th in three per cent in the NCAA are 11 of 19 from beyond the arc and PG Regan Schenck drops a dozen dimes as the Jacks move one game over 500.
