Week 12 preview (Jan. 24-30)

Does your cousin have any ties to the state or school? How otherwise can a person root for that school .. im perplexed.
Absolutely none. Not sure how he became a fan. And in all honestly, I couldn't care less as he's a jerk anyways. Fits the UNC profile perfectly.

In Canada, becoming a fan of a NCAA programs isn't always because someone went to school there. Especially during the 90s, most of us developed our fandom based on what we got to see on TV because of the NCAA coverage on CBS. I'm guessing that's what happened with him.

For example, the Fab 5 of Michigan lore was HUGE in Toronto when I was growing up. Everyone was trying to emulate them because they loved the style of play, how they wore their uniforms and clothing. I even recall someone who was part of their 30 for 30, who is from Montreal, saying the same thing.

I'm a Duke MBB fan because of my HS basketball coach. Huge Coach K fan and would have us watch their games so we could better understand some of the plays he taught us. I'm not as up to date as I used to be, but when it comes to MBB, they're my favourite. So needless to say, I'm very disappointed I didn't know the acronym until now. There could have been some great fights during family dinner I could have started

I did some looking and tonight's huge game will be on ACCNX online but not on the RSN.... so no blackout in my area. :)

My condolences Triad.

Let us know if you need one of your northern Catholic friends to say a novena.

Devastating and humiliating loss for my Blue Devils. Seems like McCallie snuck in the gym and was coaching our team.

Next two games... Sunday at Louisville... Tuesday at home vs Ga Tech :(

My condolences Triad.

Not sure what that is, but it will heal Celeste Taylor quicker, we will take it

Sorry that didn't go down the way you wanted it to @triaddukefan . Unfortunately I think this result means you can't bag on UNC for being overrated for the rest of the season.

Didn't think the Duke-UNC game would go this way. Looking at the boxscore. WOW.

Why is no one talking about the riveting overtime slugfest between Pitt and Clemson???

These are two tough and gritty (is that the word?) POWER FIVE teams. And because they are POWER FIVE teams, that means that all these tough, gritty games they're playing are preparing them for a likely Final Four run.

"No nights off in the ACC."
"The ACC is incredibly deep."
"Every game is a dogfight in the ACC."

ESPN sticking with airing WBB at 6:00 on Thursday picking up the rescheduled SC/Ole Miss game. Probably safe to assume the Rebels’ new status as a ranked team helped secure this.

Probably just figured that they already had the hotel rooms.

Someone last year definitely said you can never take Clemson lightly.

I remember that.

Wow, you are REALLY grinding an axe with this thing, aren't you?

No more so than the P5 cult followers who, with a straight face, repeat such inane mantras.

Random thoughts--the 2 outgoing Vandy transfers have been fairly big disappointments with their new teams this year--Koi Love at Arizona and Chelsey Hall at Louisville. Love especially has done almost nothing, how in the world was she nearly a 20/10 player last season? (granted it was a very short season for Vandy)

Will anyone claim 3rd in the WCC? Of course, yes, someone has to, but it looks like it could be by process of elimination. I figured it would be San Diego, but they just lost to Portland to fall to 2-4. It looks like BYU is just head and shoulders above the rest of the conference, then you have Gonzaga, then you have...who cares?

I kinda get it, I know some of us Pac 12 fans talk about how some teams like Utah (and even the offensively challenged UW Huskies seemingly) aren't exactly easy to beat, but I really don't see examples of posters hyping the P5s as hard as you are indicating they are. Maybe I just keep missing these posts.

There's a whole thread dedicated to Kyra Elzy, but how long can Lindsay Whalen last at Minnesota? Got handled by Purdue tonight, fell to 2-7 in conference. She supposedly has her best recruiting class coming in next year, so I'm sure they'll keep her at least long enough so they don't lose any of those players. But she clearly is not getting it done, and there doesn't appear to be any indication she's improving the direction the program is heading. I don't know how many times I've said it, but great players don't automatically make great coaches.

Cal Baptist has been flirting with disaster quite a bit this year, needing quite a few late comebacks to pull out Ws. Didn't happen tonight, lost to Sam Houston 73-65. First conference loss in quite a while. Ran the table last year, were 6-0 this season.

UNLV had a nice win over New Mexico to move into a tie for first in the Mountain West. It's amazing what Lindy LaRocque has done with the program in two years. I'm looking forward to see what the future holds for UNLV.

Don't recall them quotes for the ACC, as much, but I have heard same for the SEC. ;)

Tonight's St. John’s at DePaul (7p, FS1) game could be an interesting watch for us Huskie fans. Personally, I am curious to see how DePaul responds from their war with our Huskies and to watch Morrow continue her domination of the low post in the BE. I would love to see Rayven Peeples have a monster game but I doubt that will happen.

The same has been said about the Big South... minus the being incredibly deep part.

Thanks for the heads up. I will enjoy this one as a less fanatical observer

Iowa had to go OT, but got a win against Northwestern. 52 combined points and 27 rebounds from Czinano and Clark.
