Week 12 - Other Games

In the “Who cares… I do” game of the week, Binghamton beats Albany and is now in sole possession of first place in America East. Feels so good to finally see Vermont below Binghamton in the standings. Former Hurley teammate Levell Sanders doing good stuff in the Southern Tier.

I wonder why the West Coast games do not get better ratings, because they have much less competition from both other games and just regular programming than those schools located in the eastern and central time zones. I love watching the Pac 12 or Big West on ESPN/ESPN+ as I fall asleep. The ends of Washington vs. Colorado and UCSD vs. Cal Poly were both entertaining last night.

Put in simple terms… half the country has gone to bed by the time west coast games start.

Villanova held St. John's to 49 points tonight in a win at MSG. F-O-R-T-Y N-I-N-E. Not to compare - O.K. I'm going there - but UConn gave up 85 to this same team a few days ago. Only 2 less in the 2nd half than they scored all game against Villanova.

I recorded it to hopefully watch later today, but Boise State @ New Mexico game was an OT gem.

Boise State's excellent sophomore do-everything forward Tyson Degenhart hit the game tying three to force OT, but New Mexico (led by Jamal Mashburn's 25 pts) won in OT 81-79.

I say this a lot here, but the MWC is excellent this year. Five teams in the KenPom top-51 (San Diego St, Boise State, New Mexico, Utah State, Nevada) and as a conference is rated the 7th strongest between the ACC and AAC (much closer to ACC than AAC).

Primo spears is nasty. Hope he comes here after Ewing is canned.
I would take him in a heartbeat. He shoots the three badly but he does what our guards don't do. He gets into the lane and scores easily off the bounce. He turns it over a tad too much but he is a good passer.

Kansas started even uglier than UConn finished on Wednesday. Clawing back vs TCU and using bench guys who hardly play. Nobody is immune from playing like crap it seems

Serious question- did Hurley look at Primo Spears in the portal? He’s from CT. Did he not want to come home? Any insight into this?

If Dan Hurley took Primo over Newton, we wouldn't have experienced Newton's first few games, then his regression, so that wouldn't be in our memory banks. Instead, this board would be full of critiques of Primo's consistent poor decision-making and sloppy play, because that's just who the BY is.

Newton was better on paper. Spears wasn’t this good as a freshman.

Xavier is scary offensively and it's sad to see what Georgetown has become.

Spears has the ball on a string and his breakdown ability is great, extremely quick and gifted. Dude lives off of getting into the paint and hitting pull up jumpers or finding teammates. He shoots the three really poorly and his D is an afterthought but his offensive ability is undeniable. Hurley better be on him because you know Cooley will be.

That's assuming Georgetown still cares about basketball and will fire Ewing which I'm no longer sure is the case.

That and his defense.

It’s true. But we really need someone who can create offense when the set breaks down. I think our staff would reign in some of his sloppiness as well.

Not just on here, this is what every fan base does.

Kansas has the similar problems we do. Their starting center is 6’7” and doesn’t rebound. They have a bench that is giving them way less than what we get from our bench. And they only have 1 guy (Wilson) who can create his own offense. It may finally be catching up to them. They had been on the right side of 4 one-possession games in conference play. Their record could very easily be looking like ours right now

There are no great teams this year which means we still have a chance this year if we can get our heads out of our ass. March is gonna be insane.

I never thought they were too good this year, closed out some earlier games they really had no business winning. Self isn't playing his highly ranked freshman so they lack depth but the one thing they have over UConn is they have a go to player. Well, they also have Self so it's two things.

We should be significantly better than them this season, Kansas lost so much from last year.

Iowa State and Oklahoma State just had a great ending. Iowa State gagged on the free throw line, missing 2 for 2 under a minute which forced them into fouling. Okie State made a couple of great stops without fouling and pulled out a 2 point win.

Oklahoma State may be done winning for a while because Cisse went down with an ankle injury on the decisive defensive rebound. I don't think he is done for the season, but that could become a nagging injury that holds him back.

4-17 Central Connecticut is a 7 point favorite on the road. I know they are playing LIU, but that is a big number for CCSU.

But wait, they play 4 out, so they must win right? LMAo. McCormack isn't walking through that door. And we're actually not that similar. Their guard play is much better than ours, and Sanogo is much better than Adams. difference is Wilson and Dick are miles ahead of AJax and Karaban.

Actually the guard play is the problem right now. None of the three guards is making shots, they are slumping and so they stopped shooting. So defenses are basically guarding just the front court guys. So the struggles look a lot like UConn‘s right now. Defense was awful today too, but the main issue is no offense from the guards, so they are easy to defend. Adams is a heck of a player, but he’s overmatched playing center against some teams.
