Week 11 - Jan 15 to 21

Minnesota is hammering Michigan St.

Okay, I officially give up on predicting ANYTHING that happens in the Big 10. It's impossible.
Not surprised that MN would win this at home, but the margin is surprising.

Look at the 3 point shooting. +6 made threes for Minny is roughly the score differential.

In SoCon action. UT-Chattanooga takes the conference lead and improves to 3-0 with a 52-50 victory over ETSU. UNC-G blows a 32-25 halftime lead and loses 62-53. Brutal 2 game road trip for my Spartans. Mercer continues to dominate the NC schools.... dropping Western Carolina 78-44 today on the heels of thrashing UNCG 76-52 on Thursday. In the Battle of the Upstate. Spartanburg Metro vs Greenville Metro. Wofford defeated Furman 69-51.

Wtf is Greenville Metro sand Spartanburg Metro.

Are these the two separate campuses of USC Upstate? Tech schools?

Heck I’m from Greenville and attended USC Uupstate for 2 years.

I assume @triaddukefan is referring to the fact that Greenville and Spartanburg are separate metropolitan statistical areas (as defined by the US government).

Woohoo at statistical data representation!!!

I guess he is calling Wofford Spartanburg Metro and Furman is Greenville Metro though both are private schools,

Stuff like that can come from a Cheerwine overdose

A dreadful Seattle U. threw a big scare into WAC leading Grand Canyon. It's in 2 OT but looks like SU is about out of gas. It's even in Arizona, not sure why this game was close.

In Big South action. USC-Upstate (Spartanburg Metro) survives a barrage of 4th quarter 3's by Radford to win 65-60. Both teams now stand at 4-1 in the conference. Also at 4-1 is High Point who downed Charleston Southern 74-57. Another SC team won today as Presbyterian defeated Longwood 69-66. Last but not least Winthrop defeated Gardner Webb 61-50.

Princeton breaks the tie atop the Ivy League with a solid win (80-65) over Columbia at Jadwyn. Princeton was down by 4 at halftime but outscored Columbia by 19 in the 2nd half. With Chen in some foul trouble, the Tigers were led by Mitchell, Belker (freshman from CA) and St Rose.

Has anyone heard any updates on Georgia Amoore and her status going forward for Virginia Tech?

Quite the loaded schedule tomorrow. (I really wish the powers-that-be would spread these games out more evenly throughout the week, but anyway ...)

My eyes are especially on:
  • Iowa at Ohio State. First major true road test for Iowa.
  • Duke at NC State. Duke gunning for two upset wins in a row, and NC State looks suddenly vulnerable.
  • Creighton at Villanova. Nova is fresh off a win over Marquette, looking to further build its resume.
  • Louisville at North Carolina. Louisville has quietly taken sole possession of 1st in ACC, but their biggest tests await.
  • USC at Colorado. Neither team wants to go 0-2 on the weekend.
  • Vanderbilt at Tennessee. Let's go Dores.
  • Oregon State at Stanford. Beavers could surprise here.
  • Toledo at Ball State. Winner takes pole position in the MAC.

Michigan State went cold in the 2nd qtr and it continued into the third. With how Minnesota is currently shooting, can't afford to get down by double digits.

SC at aTm could be a rough game, #1 defense vs #2 defense, aTm is 11-0 at home.

River Baldwin dressed and participating in warmups ahead of the tipoff between NC State and Duke.

I like State's chances better if she can play at all -- but I imagine if she can go, she will be eased into the game and not getting major minutes.

The major difference is that SC has an offense. A&M has played a weak schedule and their best wins are Kansas, Cal and Tennessee. LSU dropped 87 on their #2 defense.

First half of Iowa-Ohio St., McMahon looked the best I've seen her this year. Second half she's been brutal.

Entertaining and tightly contested game, but a bit ragged. A LOT of fouls.

edit--of course as soon as I typed that, McMahon got on track again

NC State is back in the win column. Wow, they dominated Duke almost as thoroughly as Clemson did.

That's at least one ACC team that definitely won't be ranked tomorrow.

It wasn't pretty in the 4th quarter but NC State beats Duke, 72-57.

33 points from Azaiah James on 12 of 20, and 3 of 6 from THREE. She was also 6 of 7 from the FT line, having been fouled TWICE today attempting a three-point basket.

River Baldwin played 18 minutes and scored 6 points in her first game back from injury.

Ohio St. was down 12 early in Q4 and looked dead in the water. They roared back to take a 1 point lead, but now trailing again w/ just over a minute left.

Sheldon and McMahon have been great in the comeback.
