Week 11 - Jan 15 to 21

In the AAC... Charlotte beats Tulane 66-64 to remain in first place.

Ha well the joke's on you because my Coogs already made mincemeat of those imposters.

Third Ward Cougars > Wasatch Cougars

Looks like bad Michigan showed up again, lost to Nebraska by 19. When is good Michigan due to show up again?

Minnesota kept it respectable for a while but ending up losing by 23 to Indiana. Not quite ready for prime time yet.

Like I said, there's the Big 3, and everybody else is playing for 4th place (oh that might've been in the Big 10 thread; I can't keep track of where I post things). Or trying to stay out of last place.

The 4 newbies have 1 win against the existing conference — Houston’s win last weekend over injury riddled TCU
Yeah they really watered down the conference. Adding Utah, Colorado and Arizona next year will help (Arizona St. will further the watering down process). But losing Texas and Oklahoma isn't so good.

I guess it was a bad time for UCF to change conferences too. I remember when they were solid, wasn't very long ago. Maybe they fell off a cliff when their coach left them for Georgia?

Virtually every significant player either graduated or followed Coach Abe to Athens. Cupboard left bare, kinda like how Shauna Green left Dayton and Neighbors left Washington.

Hey Neighbors left Aari McDonald, Wynn lost her all on her own. They still would've needed more help, but a McDonald/Melgoza duo would've been a whole lotta fun to watch.

C Vivs vanity killed that program. She should’ve retired 5-10 years earlier.
Yes to the vanity, and it would have been much less damaging if she had only left 2 years earlier, to be honest.

The "should-have" is not quite as high as 10 years, but retirement via her decision pre-covid would have probably been best for the program, around the 5 year mark.

Some interesting ACC matchups today that will either spread out the teams in the standings, or keep them all in close.

23 North Carolina (4-1) @ Georgia Tech (3-2)
15 Florida State (5-1) @ Syracuse (4-1)
14 Virginia Tech (4-1) @ Duke (3-2)

Not sure. Losing Brett has some impact, but in all reality this these should be better based on the roster. Players like Hobbs and Williams need to step up and be consistent.

Syracuse might get a boost from playing at the Dome (should be a big crowd tonight). I wouldn't be shocked if they pulled off the upset, but they cannot be ice cold in Q1 like they were in the past recent games against BC and Clemson. If Syracuse can get off to a hot start and disrupt immediately (like they did with ND), watch out.

It's an interesting day for WBB, there are 8 ranked teams playing today...all road games.
I always get a little nervous when NC State plays at Miami, like they are scheduled to this evening. Usually, the atmosphere is only slightly more energetic than the funeral parlor that is the Conte Forum...and our games with Miami tend to be grinders. I'm expecting another tight game tonight. State just needs to win by 1 point.

Miami is another perplexing team to me. With their depth in the post with Oldacre, Lattimore and Spearman, I thought I'd see more dominance in the front court. Hasn't really transpired as of yet. Thought they had better chances to win against teams like Louisville and Boston College.

Day-Wilson seems to be consistent. Dwyer provides a spark and can be very crafty. Hylton seems to be going through a bit of a slump but should turn around.

Tennessee plays Mississippi state. Is this a must win for the lady vols?
Must win in what sense? For Kelly to hold her job or for the Vols to make the NCAAs?

If they go 7-5 rest of the way and finish 10-6 in conference, pretty sure they're in the NCAAs.
But they've got 3 likely losses in SCx2 + LSU. So that means 7-2 against the rest. Think they need 3-1 the next two weekends.

The bar is higher for Kelly. Just making the NCAAs probably isn't going to cut it, unless she has a lot of years left on her contract. She needs a strong finish.

Unranked Tennessee at unranked Mississippi starts at 5:00. Battling for 3,4,5 in conference? Maybe

5:32 remainingAuburn/ Andy game.

1 point separates them. No game threads
My first thought: Andy?
Oh Andy Landers, you mean Georgia. :)

Speaking of which , just realized he’s gone, basically replaced with Andraya Carter.

Vandy pulls it out 53-50.

Holly Warlick is calling the TN-MSU. Can you say awkward!
Awkward for her or Kelly?

How much bad luck is it for an embattled TN coach to have Holly Warlick cross your path?

Vols 15-5 start to the 3Q. Seriously, what is the deal with them? This happens over and over. Do the players not try in the first half? Is Kelly the Queen of 1/2time adjustments?

That has got to be the worst 1Q played by NC State this entire season. 4 of 20 from the field...with more turnovers than made FG. +8 rebounding advantage keeping us from being blown out. Miami is 9 of 12. State trails 21-10 after 1Q.

Tennessee just made the NCAA Tournament. You heard it here first, folks!

I swear, Wes Moore must be getting paid to hand all the other ACC teams their best win of the season. This is even more ridiculous than normal.

NC State appears mired in quicksand. Something is just off...I see the 5 players I'm accustomed to seeing but they aren't playing like the team I'm used to seeing.

NC State 59
Miami 73

NC State shot 28% on 18 of 64 from the field. Just an ice cold performance...throw in the turnovers, and State just handed this game to the Hurricanes.

Well, at least one team from the Tar Heel state showed how to hold serve on the road against a 3rd rate opponent.

I didn't expect that team to be the powder blue one, but it seems that NC State may have peaked in November.
