Week 1 games (Nov. 25-29)

DePaul's coaching pulled a Syracuse 4th down spike with their last possession.

Northern Arizona up early against Arizona.

Transfers are going to figure prominently for the Cats. Baptiste and Pellington started and Yendu was first off the bench a couple minutes in.

Sam Thomas is wearing a facial covering, only player on the court to do so.

edit--Pueyo wearing a mask also

NC State on a 19-3 run and has a 21-5 lead on NCCU, 4:51 left 1st quarter. Cal State-Fullerton transfer Raina Perez with 5 points to lead NC State so far, which has seen 5 different players score so far.

18-15 Arizona thru Q1. Helter skelter start. Other than Reese they are really struggling to put the ball in the hoop.

Cate Reese has 11 of the kitties 18 first quarter points. Aari is 0 for the first quarter.

End of 1st quarter in Raleigh...NC State leading NCCU, 32-11.

Gtech leads Georgia 18-17 after 1Q (ACCN) Coombs showing some of her defensive skills

Looks like McDonald did not improve her 3 point shooting during the offseason. She can't buy a bucket so far, 1-7 or something like that. Cats forcing TOs and getting out in transition some but otherwise continuing to struggle.

From a distance Lauren Ware bares some physical resemblance to Mercedes Russell.

As the kitties extend their lead to 7 against the Lumberjacks Aari does seem to be struggling with her shot. Would have thought she had some time in the gym to get that stroke down.

Arizona can't shoot. They look awful. Can't hit from the perimeter, can't make layups. Up 9 now but should be up by about 20.

Timeout NCCU, 5:21 left 2nd quarter...NC State leading 38-13.

30-24 at the half, ugly ugly game. Reese has 15 for the Cats.

Certainly apparent that NAU has one game under their belt while this is the first game for the kitties. Very impressed with the way NAU is hitting the offensive boards.

Briefly Arizona had Lauren Ware and Semaj Smith on the floor together. That is some serious size. 6-5 and 6-6, and neither has a small frame.

Coombs having a slow start but just had 3 very quick drives for buckets including a strong spin move and baseline move that blew by her defender.

Baptiste and Yeaney look like they have spent plenty of time in the weight room, serious physiques.

She is certainly quick and explosive and showed it on that play. It's nice to see her finishing like that. I hope she has a great season.

My honest first-blush reaction to watching one quarter of this game is that both of these teams are destined to be mired in the mushy middle of the two most overrated conferences in the country.

Who knew Van Lith was such a rebounding machine? She has 11 today, to go with her 20 points. Louisville rolling against Eastern Kentucky.

I had this thought after several Fr. guards put up good rebounding numbers in their debuts: did Sabrina Ionescu and Mikayla Pivec start something new? If sub 6 foot guards start grabbing 8 or more rebounds regularly, that seems like not how it used to work.

edit--Van Lith 5-9 from 3, that wasn't really her strength I thought

Halftime: NC State leading NCCU, 46-25. Raina Perez leading all scorers with 10 points...Jakia Brown-Turner with 8 and Jada Boyd 7 for NC State.

Paris McBride is the leading scorer for NCCU, with 7 points.

NC State shot 58.1% in the first half, on 18 of 31 shooting. NCCU was 10 of 31 for 32.1%. Both teams made 4 THREEs in the first half.

Apparently GTech has only 7 scholarship players due to assorted injuries. GA may be limited but they are deep and physical

Georgia may be a little bit better offensively this year. Still not efficient from 3 point land but more weapons who can create in the paint.
