Week 1!!! 11/3-11/9

No Okananwa for Duke either who would’ve been a starter and likely a go to scorer.

Ugly first game, kind of what you’d expect from a team like Duke that doesn’t prioritize offense. They’ll improve and be fine. Bummer we didn’t get to see Skinner or Roberson.

Taliah Scott has gone the radar after a hot start 2 years ago in Arkansas but she was by far the best player on the court today. Early dark horse contender for Big 12 POY.
I think this is a huge loss for them. She was a budding star.

Tessa Johnson looked stellar last night, seems to be in line for a huge season for South Carolina. Can create her own jumper from anywhere on the floor.

Raven Johnson looks to have improved offensively. Time will tell. If it holds, those two and Latson form a likely top-3 backcourt in the country.

The Molly Miller era begins. CTT is smiling and the energy is back to Desert Financial. Passion enthusiasm and most of all defense with a huge D. 4000 in the house. Amazing electricity all night.

Take aways

Trademark Miller D.18 steals, 90 feet, constant in your face swarming defense

Former Reb Brackens was all that

10 in the first quarter and clutch down the stretch Washenitz was the leading scorer.

There is a winning culture in Tempe again!

The curtain of distraction was 8-13 in the second half

The Devils lack a point guard

In other news Don Staley called off the dogs but Winston Grandy received the anticipated beatdown in South Carolina.

The Jacks traveled to the Pit and got mauled.

And the kitties, ahhhhh. They open at home on the 5th and, get this play their first 12 at McKale!

I'll drive down to the dirty t on the 21st to see them play the Jacks.

25-24 Pack over Tennessee after the 1st

Been a break neck pace. Polar opposite teams as far as rotations. State has had 1 sub all quarter. Tennessee has probably had 15 or more.

Interested to see if State continues to push pace and run, that's what Tennessee wants and at some point fatigue probably sets in for State. Overall Zoe and Zam have handled the pressure just fine and routinely found the open player down court. A couple of forced shots from Zoe IMO. But entertaining first 10 minutes.

And now we see why Wes was hesitant to go to the bench much. The 2 freshmen looked like....well freshmen playing their first game. Lunan and Jernigan both coughing up the ball against the press and taking some poor shots. State's bench not having a good showing so far at all.

Weak tech for sure. The refs haven't been great IMO. They have really allowed alot of hand checking and contact. But I guess if they are consistent with that, that's all you want. Allowing for more physicality and letting those things go certainly favors Tennessee in this match up with the way they want to play defense and their depth compared to State's strategy on D and lack of quality depth.

IMO State needs to slow the pace down. Zoe and Zam can play fast, Pierre too. But State simply doesn't have the depth to keep up for 40 minutes at that pace. If you get a long pass over top for a lay in on the press, of course take it...but anything else, I'd pull it out and set up some half court offense. Take advantage of Pierre on the blocks, she can have her way down there if given opportunities. Give Tilda a chance in the post. Quick shots lead to run outs for Tennessee and it's hurting State because they are showing signs of fatigue and frustration with the physical nature of the game.

Got sloppy in the 2nd but 4 point game and State's best 3 shooters are a combined 0-5 from 3 and all 5 looks were wide open ones. If State can control the pace of play a little better in the 2nd it's anyone's game.

Cooper for Tennessee is a baller! Really like her game.

Huge win for State. One I didn’t expect they’d get honestly. Zam was clutch down the stretch. Samuels got a big defensive stop on cooper with 35 seconds left and Tilda pulled down a massive offensive board at the end to seal the deal.

Impressive win for the Wolfpack.

Good for NC State. I feel like Wes Moore is one of the most underappreciated coaches in wcbb. He's done a very fine job there for quite a while, has had to rebuild several times, just keeps producing good teams. You don't really hear much about him.

He is certainly appreciated in Raleigh. It’s hard for me gauge how he’s perceived or talked about or not in other parts of the country, maybe it’s his age and lack of flash and flare that helps him fly under the radar? Idk, but Wes has been the best coach in the ACC for a while now and as you pointed out he’s done it with multiple different rosters.

I am a very happy Wolfpack Women fan tonight. What a tremendous basketball game to open the season. A true edge-of-your-seat thriller. I was concerned about how the young Wolfpack (no seniors on this roster) would handle the continuous Tennessee press and for most of the game, they fared pretty well. I think this lineup will win a lot of games, especially when the new Wolfpups gain a little experience.

She was in down the stretch guarding Coper which is a tall task. She did so without fouling.
She was defending Cooper for much of the 1st half too, but Cooper was pretty much scoring at will, regardless of where she was shooting from. Could be the reason that Qadence wasn't much of a scorer today.

I was watching Chavez and was thinking “oh, that’s why Dawn and Geno didn’t recruit her.”

I know that’s not really fair. But I was thinking that after a few of her shots.

Wasn't South Carolina among the final 10 teams that were on Chavez's list? As for UConn, I am sure the interest was low for both parties.
