Week 1!!! 11/3-11/9

63 minutes to tip here at GCU arena.....Bengals and Lopes shooting around. Like their Big Sky fellow member, Idaho State scored 99 in their opener and like the Eagles the Bengals are in an entirely different environment here defensively.

Just got a great smile from Flavor Ayodele. I'm sitting on the midcourt line two rows up and as she walked toward me the former Vol returned my smile.she's my new fav.

Grand Canyon runs such a classy operation. They had a buffet meal for all the season ticket holders and while I'm not sure how it's possible looks like they've got an even bigger pep band this year.

This is very interesting pregame ritual for the Winston Gandy team. 30 minutes till tip and the bigs are on the floor drilling. All the guards are on the bench watching the Bengals shoot around. Not sure I've ever seen anything like that before

In Big D the fashionista evens her record to one and one with a loss at home. The ponies score one point over the last 4 minutes 30 seconds and blow a lead losing by two to KSU. The kitties that accompanied the well-dressed coach (Paris/Jah)were 4 for 25 with an incalculable A/T ratio with 0 assists and 4 turnovers

Grand Canyon will host the fashionista and her ponies here in GCU arena on the 18th with a 6pm tip. Can't wait!

lol, Tenn had to call a timeout in the 2nd quarter, down 28-20 vs UT-Martin
Tied at halftime. I saw the score and had to take a peek. 👀

The story seems to be that the 3 ain't falling for Tennessee and it is falling for UT Martin. Tennessee also went on a run where they couldn't stop fouling.

UCSB is blitzing Seattle U. 57-23. I figured SU isn't very good, but this is still a pretty surprising score to me.

edit--89-49 final

There was an article this week in a Knoxville paper where Coach Caldwell noted these concerns. She wasn't happy with the team's shot selection and the fouling.

It's basically 5 seconds on offense where they take the first open shot and then 30 seconds on defense where UT-Martin takes it down to the last second with each possession..rinse and repeat. It's gotta be hard to find offensive rhythm operating like that.

They seem better in the second half where at least the ball is exchanging hands before a shot goes up. Tennessee has a big advantage in the post and they're not even trying to play inside-out. I would say it's more than just shot selection, it's also their offensive philosophy/strategy that is shooting them in the foot this game. They have advantages that they're not using.

MD 34-9 in the 4th and a comfortable looking 85-66 win, even though they trailed 57-53 starting the 4th
The Terps were down 58-48 late in the 3rd quarter. The UNRANKED Addi Mack took over the game. Scored 23 points to lead the Terps.

Oof, Iowa destroyed Evansville 119-43. Hawkeyes got 56 off the bench if I added correctly, including 20 and 11 from freshmen Hays and Deal.

Competition hasn't been great, but Ava Heiden might be a double-double machine this season.

Somebody convince me Caldwell isn't doing exactly the same thing as Bruno did at DePaul, only with higher rated recruits.

Fight On!!!!
69-68 over NC State
Winning College Football GIF by Wells Fargo

Well maybe USC will be okay this year w/out Juju.

Hats off to NC State for opening the season playing 2 ranked opponents, while almost everybody else is playing Sisters of the Poor or Creampuff U.

DePaul did that? I guess I don’t recall the 5 for 5 subs every 3 minutes.
Seems a little closer to Mitchell’s 40 minutes of dread at KY.

My hunch is that this is a gimmick and gimmicks don’t work against the highest levels of competition, but what do I know?

Maybe not the hockey line subs, but frenetic on D and O, seemingly not valuing possession of the ball. Pushing tempo at all costs, and throwing the ball towards the rim as soon as you can once you cross half court. Syracuse did something similar as well w/ Q.
