It looks like we may only have 6 or 7 games against top 25 teams, and only one or none against top 10 teams. Is this one of our weakest schedules? Were a lot of games set last spring, before all the transfers happened. I know FL State lost a top scorer to S. Car. and USC lost a ton of transfers and might have expected JuJu back. And maybe before the Irish lost their transfers? In any event we are still seeming to be number 1, but if we lose even one game, we won't have the great win to offset it. Oh well, nothing we can do about it now. Maybe hope USC beats UCLA? And Tennessee beats SC and Texas. But I can't really hope Tennessee wins a game, that is toooooooo much. Maybe FL state can win out.

We have the players to win it all so if we get penalized for a “weaker schedule” then so be it. USC is #8 and moving up and their next big test will be against UCLA. We have to play them at their house with jasmine D the #1 freshmen . This game against USC will be a good barometer for us.

It's disappointing but it is what it is.
Geno will need to make sure (as he always does) that the players don't get complacent, and that they are ready for unexpected adversity. And hopefully fans will not take a bunch of easy wins and compare them to the Michael Jordan Bulls.

The schedule is fine. Last season folks were worried about the schedule being too tough and after that Notre Dame loss. The critics were really vocal about the schedule. Michigan, Utah, USC, Notre Dame, and Tennessee are pretty decent. Throw in what the Big East has to offer. The schedule is fine.

Why try to deny it? It's not as strong as schedules in recent years. No top 5 matchups (as of right now). Maybe no top 10.

It is much more difficult to schedule OC games with the expanded Power four conferences and the insane travel schedules involved.

If UConn runs the table heading into the Big Dance at 34-0, which is a distinct possibility, then the only way that the Huskies are not the #1 overall seed is if either SC or UCLA runs the table against tougher schedules, and even then, UConn may still be the overall #1 seed.

Am sorry but what does the Big East have to offer? Quick answer is nothing. The league was so much better when C Viv; Muffet; Harry and Doug were here. Even though USF never beat us Jose always had good teams.

Here's the problem with a weak schedule. Heading into the NCAA's last year, the selection committee was wetting themselves over "Quad 1 wins". However they define them was wrong anyway, as UConn had a few top 25 wins that actually weren't Quad 1, but whatever.
Fast forward to selection Sunday and we were the #5 team so the strongest 2 seed. Again, a joke because anyone with a brain could look at the season after the Tennessee loss and see we should have been a 1 seed, but I digress.
The point is that the committee may yet again look at Quad 1 wins and if UConn loses even 1 game, it could sink us to a 2 seed even tho the other metrics disagree. We will see what they do this year.

Compared to some of the other ranked teams we have a good schedule....if we were in the SEC, it would be a lot tougher.

Here we go again. We’re 2 games into a new season, riding high as the defending national champions and #1 team in the nation, and you want to start trashing the Big East. It is what it is. There’s not a damned thing UConn can do about it, other than exactly what they are doing. Play as tough an OOC schedule as possible and use the conference schedule to prepare the team for the Big Dance.
It worked just fine last season. It’ll work just fine this season.

You can only play the teams you are able to schedule........UConn's best bet is to blast the Top 25 teams they play so that there can be no doubt about how good a team they really are......so far so good....... 😊

NCAA seeding is one topic that I did not think of when I saw the schedule.
Discussion of Leagues and Conferences. I am with oldude--it is what it is---definitely a weaker schedule than usual.
Competition was another area discussed. Play weak become weak -- or is it--play best teams and learn about yourself. LSU believes that playing games against mid-majors is a method to find the flow of the game. Show your stuff in a "Practice Game." Feel the success of the blocks, steals, drives, rebounds, etc. You now know you can do it. We know it is Against lower competition, but YOU GOT THE MOVES.
The Subs - - Who has the over under on how many minutes the bench plays this year!!? Geno is mellowing and he really thinks about the players on the bench. Geno does not play around when recruiting. You earn your spot/time in practice. And we all know that Geno usually goes to "8" major players in crunch time. The bench is an afterthought during the Championship moments. Geno is more aware of "situations" where someone is a #10-15 bench warmer. This different schedule will allow Geno to portray his "kinder and gentler nature."

I've said this every year, even when UConn was not the previous year's national champion. Whoever is the reigning NC stays #1 until some team proves they are not. UConn is #1 until someone proves otherwise.

UCONN does everything they can to schedule tough non conference opponents. But this is not a one sided venture. Sometimes the other schools have commitments and conflicts which rule out what UCONN is inviting them to do. We have no home and home, for example, this year with South Carolina. No one has explained why, but that is a huge loss of a first rate match-up. The USC game was intended to be a big time match-up, and then JuJu Watkins got injured and will miss the season. So, we still play a fine team but not a great one. It is not as challenging a schedule as CONN, or BB fans, in general, want. And the great team games usually come early. So, if you blink, you miss them , and we are suddenly playing St. Johns. It is what it is. We can only hope the Big East is making strides though recruiting and the portal.

One of the reasons for out so called "weak schedule" is that several of the so called "stronger teams" refuse to play us. Geno has often made it clear that he will play anyone, home or away.
Our last 5 championships were against weak regular season league schedules. There are a lot of advantages to it including durability, player development, rest and experimentation. I don't think small ball would have been invented last year without it and according to Geno, it's here to stay.

Sorry Oldude but I have to disagree. The American was a waste of time. Tulane gave UConn a close game. That was once in the whole time that we were stuck in that crap conference.
Virginia Tech snags Megan Duffy. The Big East needed her to stay at Marquette. Villanova and Creighton still have awesome coaches. The middle teams need to move in on the action. If not, the Big East will always be a one maybe two school tourney conference.
As Coach K and Rick Pitino keep saying the ACC and the Big East should merge. I’m sure that many others may also think that that is a good idea. But this should be taken to the realignment section.

The major downside to the schedule is no game against South Carolina. If they were on the schedule, it would look a lot better.

Scheduling is tough. If Juju doesn't get hurt, Latson stays at FSU, Utah coach stays, and Lville is typically higher and everything would be fine with strength of schedule. None of those things were known when those games were scheduled since typically scheduling happens a couple years out for OOC.

Well, the national media are having a cow over Jazzy and to her credit, she has played well, but (nothing against Jazzy) but the media is about as untrustworthy as it comes due to their eagerness to push for the next big star. She (Jazzy) looks lije a promising young player but I do wish the media would give these young women a little more time before they start pushing the star label on them.
Certainly, her play changes the dynamic of what many may have (in the absence of JuJu) considered a relatively one-sided game. It may still be that, but she and Kennedy Smith could make this game interesting. Either way, we can be sure Geno will have our girls ready to play.
