We slayed the top team in the SEC (twice) they need to concentrate on trying to win their conference first. It must've really hurt losing to Shea not once but twice, no way they would've came close to beating the UConn team tht played yesterday....Ask Dawn.
And as far as whts being said by other teams........Lions dont concern themselves with the opinions of Gazelles.

Andraya Carter, a Tennessee LadyVol, was so moved by this UCONN team that she had to wipe away tears on ESPN’s...The Get Up. Tells you how special this championship is.

Great commentary from both, but wow Andraya has become such a superstar broadcaster in just a few years. It's immensely enjoyable to hear her give UConn, Geno and Paige all the flowers.

I thought Dawn Staley hurt her team by her cursing and general attitude during the game. Those F-bombs must have been both embarrassing and demoralizing for her players. Not that there was anything much she could have changed to bring about a different outcome, but at least she could have demonstrated more positive encouragement.
I’m sure her players have heard it and said it many times before.

I've told this before here but worth repeating. Never cheered for the Huskies when they were rolling (broke my heart with the 04 Gophers!) but always had incredible respect and awe for the program and loved many of their players individually. The 2018 Wright Thompson piece on Geno really made me appreciate the level of greatness (I know, dumb to not have that true appreciation before) and I've pulled for them since.

But it truly went to the next level when Paige came. Being a Minnesota native, feel like I've been hearing about her since she was in elementary school though her 8th grade performance in state was first exposure to her. She got the one state title but had other disappointments there and then the day before she would have likely won a second one the season was canceled with Covid.

Have so enjoyed watching her play for UConn and reading this board these long, hard, rewarding five years. So many knowledgeable folks here. Lot of heartbreak and disappointment and the day I saw on Twitter she tore her ACL is seared in my head.

The Final Four losses to Arizona (agh), South Carolina in the title game, Iowa (AGH!). Honestly I had started thinking she wouldn't get one, too snakebitten. And felt bad for Geno too. Weird to say for someone with 11 titles but all those tight losses and I wanted him to get at least one more (not that he's done now). And now to end it like this is just storybook. Yeah I probably would have loved seeing Paige get 37 to seal it but this was an amazing victory (and she did have the region games that will live forever). And so glad it was a blowout so she could get the hug.

Man.

And weirdly, the way sports works, it's more satisfying now having Paige get the one as a senior. If she'd won as a freshman and then lost three Final Fours it would somehow feel disappointing.

So thanks for welcoming an outsider for this Paige ride and now that I've truly been exposed to all aspects of the Huskies fandom...think I'll be sticking around even as she leaves campus.
Outsiders are needed due to the basketball capital of the world needing balance.

she didn't call a timeout for the entire game
I'm glad to see this confirmed. I thought I noticed that she never did, but I had trouble believing that it could be true. Coaching malpractice in my opinion! The only other question in my mind? Will the Huskies go to the White House to celebrate?

Not only did Paige get that elusive title, I hope people remember the ultimate teammate she was. She poured everything into her teammates, and constantly tried to build them up and get them involved. Perhaps every frustrating passed up shot over the course of her career can be viewed as her relentless pursuit to get her teammates ready to go to battle alongside her under the brightest lights. And this year, they showed up confident and ready to do it with her. It reminds me of Diana’s ability to make people better. Paige knew she could only do so much, and relied on UConn team basketball to reach the mountain top.

Incredibly proud of this group, and the journey they’ve been on. One of the most deserving groups, and a truly dominant postseason run.

I’ll miss Paige, she’s been a blessing to watch. Excited for the next iteration of this team to take the reins and set out on the quest for #13.
Team sports, especially college, have the potential to reveal unique situations involving chemistry, collective motivation, and love. With the portal and NIL, there may be fewer of them. But when athletes are together for an extended period, experience serious hardship and keen disappointment, yet persevere - you forge a rare bond. Add to that a singular personality and leader like Paige, so utterly deserving and respected, you have a leader to rally around - and behind. I thought the UCLA game - even more than the final - illustrated how totally united this team was regardless of their minutes or role or status, not only by self-interest in wanting a title, but by chemistry that only manifests when doing something with and for someone you love. This team was going to do everything and anything to get Paige the title. Mission Accomplished. I’m so happy for all the Boneyard faithful who bleed blue able to savor this memorable season. I don’t think any of us will forget it.
