Louis VuittonWhat did it stand for?
Ice, Ash, KK and Q will all be juniors and their basketball skills and roles on the team are well defined and probably will not change significantly next year. I expect the starters in October to be Sarah at the 4, Jana at the 5 and Azzi at the 2, leaving openings at the 1 and the 3. KK will most likely start the season at the 1 while Kelis is being evaluated, leaving the 3 as the question mark, possibly being filled by Carol or Morgan (if healthy) until Blanca can be evaluated.I feel like it could be Ashlynn, but we've got a lot of talented players on the team and some pretty special ones coming in.
I try not to compare UConn teams because it is difficult to do so. However, I do believe that this year's Huskies perhaps had the most difficult path to their championship than any other UConn team. It was murder's row to get there--three No, 1 seeds,, beating UCLA and SC by wide margins, teams that in any other seasons could have won the championship--I won't say they are the greatest UConn team ever, and but they beat the toughest teams ever to win the Naty...This team went from “normal contender” (like Taurasi’s last team) to 2015-2016 level dominance really quickly. That Tennessee loss was a godsend. Hell of a turnaround.
Just to be very clear, this is not a self label. This was something Dick Vitale said all of the way back in 1995. (!!!) All we've done is taken that label and provided 18 pieces of hardware to back it up.It's on-topic from my point of view. I love how UConn has already backed up their fall 2023 "Basketball Capital of the World" self-label with additional men's and women's titles. Awesome. Great for the programs and the school rep. We need to stay on top right now. Maybe we'll have another dual championship next season... who knows?
May have been the best timeout I've ever seen a coach take. She knew the game was over after UConn took a timeout in the 3rd qtr, Geno went with his small lineup and the Huskies pulled away.
Dawn ALWAYS drops a lot of f-bombs. She’s led the Gamecocks to three natties doing it. They just ran into a buzz saw, working blue had nothing to do with it.I thought Dawn Staley hurt her team by her cursing and general attitude during the game. Those F-bombs must have been both embarrassing and demoralizing for her players. Not that there was anything much she could have changed to bring about a different outcome, but at least she could have demonstrated more positive encouragement.
“PTP baby”Just to be very clear, this is not a self label. This was something Dick Vitale said all of the way back in 1995. (!!!) All we've done is taken that label and provided 18 pieces of hardware to back it up.

We slayed the top team in the SEC (twice) they need to concentrate on trying to win their conference first. It must've really hurt losing to Shea not once but twice, no way they would've came close to beating the UConn team tht played yesterday....Ask Dawn.I just took a peek at the reactions at the Lady Vols forum. Lots of posts how they would have knocked off UConn again if they met in the tournament.
Well, UConn did go and print it on their home court floor. If that's not a self-label, it's an adoption of a superlative from a guy who rattles off effusive praise like it's carbon dioxide. Either way, UConn talked the talk, and then walked the walk to back it up.Just to be very clear, this is not a self label. This was something Dick Vitale said all of the way back in 1995. (!!!) I just like to remind folks that someone else said it because it was so long ago and too many casual fans (especially non-UConn fans) misinterpret the intention by repeating it. Just like how we've latched onto calling MSG "Storrs South" - that's not UConn that coined that, but we sure as heck will commandeer the slogan!Well, UConn did go and print it on their home court floor. I'm not so sure about that. There have been a lot of players over the years who have improved after their sophomore seasons. Their rules this year may have been a consequence of other available personnel, rather than any specific limitations they have. But we shall see.Ice, Ash, KK and Q will all be juniors and their basketball skills and roles on the team are well defined and probably will not change significantly next year
As noted in my signature, Jay Billis said it as well. So, I think it's less a "self label" than it is an acknowledgment of a widely acknowledged fact. Name me another school who has 18 national championships in the last 30 years.Well, UConn did go and print it on their home court floor. If that's not a self-label, it's an adoption of a superlative from a guy who rattles off effusive praise like it's carbon dioxide. ....and a bit of class!I thought Dawn Staley hurt her team by her cursing and general attitude during the game. Those F-bombs must have been both embarrassing and demoralizing for her players. 18 out of 58 chances... Capital performances!Just to be very clear, this is not a self label. This was something Dick Vitale said all of the way back in 1995. (!!!) All we've done is taken that label and provided 18 pieces of hardware to back it up.
She tossed in the towel way too early.she didn't call a timeout for the entire game
And as far as whts being said by other teams........Lions dont concern themselves with the opinions of Gazelles. We slayed the top team in the SEC (twice) they need to concentrate on trying to win their conference first. It must've really hurt losing to Shea not once but twice, no way they would've came close to beating the UConn team tht played yesterday....Ask Dawn.
Andraya Carter, a Tennessee LadyVol, was so moved by this UCONN team that she had to wipe away tears on ESPN’s...The Get Up. Tells you how special this championship is.
I’m sure her players have heard it and said it many times before.I thought Dawn Staley hurt her team by her cursing and general attitude during the game. Those F-bombs must have been both embarrassing and demoralizing for her players. Not that there was anything much she could have changed to bring about a different outcome, but at least she could have demonstrated more positive encouragement.
Outsiders are needed due to the basketball capital of the world needing balance.I've told this before here but worth repeating. Never cheered for the Huskies when they were rolling (broke my heart with the 04 Gophers!) but always had incredible respect and awe for the program and loved many of their players individually. The 2018 Wright Thompson piece on Geno really made me appreciate the level of greatness (I know, dumb to not have that true appreciation before) and I've pulled for them since.
But it truly went to the next level when Paige came. Being a Minnesota native, feel like I've been hearing about her since she was in elementary school though her 8th grade performance in state was first exposure to her. She got the one state title but had other disappointments there and then the day before she would have likely won a second one the season was canceled with Covid.
Have so enjoyed watching her play for UConn and reading this board these long, hard, rewarding five years. So many knowledgeable folks here. Lot of heartbreak and disappointment and the day I saw on Twitter she tore her ACL is seared in my head.
The Final Four losses to Arizona (agh), South Carolina in the title game, Iowa (AGH!). Honestly I had started thinking she wouldn't get one, too snakebitten. And felt bad for Geno too. Weird to say for someone with 11 titles but all those tight losses and I wanted him to get at least one more (not that he's done now). And now to end it like this is just storybook. Yeah I probably would have loved seeing Paige get 37 to seal it but this was an amazing victory (and she did have the region games that will live forever). And so glad it was a blowout so she could get the hug.
Man.
And weirdly, the way sports works, it's more satisfying now having Paige get the one as a senior. If she'd won as a freshman and then lost three Final Fours it would somehow feel disappointing.
So thanks for welcoming an outsider for this Paige ride and now that I've truly been exposed to all aspects of the Huskies fandom...think I'll be sticking around even as she leaves campus.
I'm glad to see this confirmed. I thought I noticed that she never did, but I had trouble believing that it could be true. Coaching malpractice in my opinion! The only other question in my mind? Will the Huskies go to the White House to celebrate?she didn't call a timeout for the entire game
Team sports, especially college, have the potential to reveal unique situations involving chemistry, collective motivation, and love. With the portal and NIL, there may be fewer of them. But when athletes are together for an extended period, experience serious hardship and keen disappointment, yet persevere - you forge a rare bond. Add to that a singular personality and leader like Paige, so utterly deserving and respected, you have a leader to rally around - and behind. I thought the UCLA game - even more than the final - illustrated how totally united this team was regardless of their minutes or role or status, not only by self-interest in wanting a title, but by chemistry that only manifests when doing something with and for someone you love. This team was going to do everything and anything to get Paige the title. Mission Accomplished. I’m so happy for all the Boneyard faithful who bleed blue able to savor this memorable season. I don’t think any of us will forget it.Not only did Paige get that elusive title, I hope people remember the ultimate teammate she was. She poured everything into her teammates, and constantly tried to build them up and get them involved. Perhaps every frustrating passed up shot over the course of her career can be viewed as her relentless pursuit to get her teammates ready to go to battle alongside her under the brightest lights. And this year, they showed up confident and ready to do it with her. It reminds me of Diana’s ability to make people better. Paige knew she could only do so much, and relied on UConn team basketball to reach the mountain top.
Incredibly proud of this group, and the journey they’ve been on. One of the most deserving groups, and a truly dominant postseason run.
I’ll miss Paige, she’s been a blessing to watch. Excited for the next iteration of this team to take the reins and set out on the quest for #13.
It helped that I was watching with my 17 year old daughter! She clued me in.Louis Vuitton
