CONGRATULATION!!! What a great T-E-A-M. I have high hopes every year, and this year was no exception, but early in the season, I did not think this team was an exceptional team with a strong title shot. Geno didn't either, which he said in not so many words. What made this team extraordinary is how much they improved over the season - more than any UCONN team I've ever seen. While that Tennessee loss was so painful, in retrospect, it was the turning point. Not only were we too good to lose to them, it soon became apparent, especially to our players, that we were too good to lose to any team. As a UCONN fan, all things come to those who are patient and believe. GO HUSKIES!!!

Yes, but is UConn the first number-two seed to beat 3 number-one seeds? That would appear to be the better question.
Humm. I don’t think a #1 will have an opportunity to beat 3 #1’s

So the question would be has a #3 or lower beaten 3 #1’s

This is from ESPN describing the SC players remarks in the locker room after the loss. What really stands out for me is how honest they were. They have varying emotions, but none of them tried to shrink from the truth of what just happened. This is the sign of a really healthy team culture and I congratulate Dawn on creating such a program.

One of the best things about this victory is that Uconn has 63 of their 82 points, 11 of their 18 assists, 7 of their 8 steals, 24 of 39 shot returning if Bueckers,5-14, 1-7 from Chen, and a couple of wild shots from Ducharme in the last minute aren't included, are coming back to wreak havoc next year. That is better than 60% shooting against the second best defense in the country. This game will be a tremendous experience for the future of the returnees.

All of this. For all that gets said about Coach Staley, when you read what her players say, they do respect their competition. They give credit when it's due.

Just a few thoughts following a very satisfying game:

--Paige is a great, great player. She helped will us to the championship. Mount Rushmore!

--I'm so happy for the "seniors": Paige, Kaitlyn, and Aubrey. What a way to go out!

--I think UConn was the best team in the nation over the past 2 months. They dominated since the Tennessee game.

--S.C. is a really good team, but maybe the weakest S.C. team in 5 years or so. They miss Cardoso/Boston.

--I'm thrilled for my local girl, the Fuddster. Concerns about her play in important games are a thing of the past.

--Sarah Strong is the best player I've seen since Paige/Maya. Her ceiling is unlimited. On the short list for NPOY next year.

--Thanks for a great season!!

Geno seemed really pissed at KK’s moving screen in the first quarter; you could see him yelling at her on the bench and then he called it out again on TV in the sideline interview. And partway through the second half - maybe I’m imagining things - it felt like she had her minutes cut as Geno stuck with bigger lineups and I was worried she was in the doghouse. But when she came back in she was a HUGE difference maker. I’m very excited for her and Ash next season. (Ash, too, was never going to have a ton of plays run for her in this game but still made her mark big time).
