Waiting on Kayleigh Heckel

I have a question and because K9 was a former HS honors student it might not apply to her. Sometimes not all of a person's credits are accepted by the new school. Does this come into play for the 20% rule for freshmen transfers? Or is it 20% from the original school without regard as to what the new school accepts? If a player has to be 20% at the new school that would be an enormous complication. OD, do you know?

That’s a good question. I would think that so long as a college and academic program is accredited by the DOE, academic credits would transfer from one university to another. I think the problem you reference only comes into play when an athlete transfers from a school that is not accredited such as a JUCO.

Appears that Kayleigh would be a positive addition to next year's team. Both Geno and her are likely looking at the next three as well. While I have to imagine that she would come out of UConn with a stronger skills et at every level, added a guard with 3 more years of eligibility can reset some of UConn's future recruiting strategy. File this one under potential "positive problem."

I think there’s no guarantee that credits will all be accepted, regardless of accreditation. I’ve been through this very situation too many times with students where I’m asked to write a letter affirming the quality of particular course credits to persuade a recalcitrant registrar at another institution. It succeeds less than half the time. Also, registrars are not likely to assess transferability of specific credits before a student’s third year or when a major has been declared.

If I had to guess, the NCAA has no interest in navigating such disputes, which typically only emerge closer to graduation. They probably only look at the percentage of credits from the original institution and don’t concern themselves with any shortfalls that may arise later.

Kayleigh Heckel, K9, highlight video.
This is a must watch for any "unbelievers" out there
in BONEYARD land. Kayleigh sure looks like she
belongs in a HUSKY uniform to me... IMHO she
won't ride the bench, but will get some playing time
with KK. "HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN GOING ON"?
(Sounds like a song, huh?)
Isn't her highlight video against one team, Cal Poly, that was down 20 before some fans were probably in their seats (hyperbole)? And was the second game of the season. If she was able to sustain that kind of team contribution, I am guessing that she would have played as many minutes as our KK. Did she? (I'm too tired to look it up....)

You didn't say "potentially on-track". You said, "A little bit of a stretch to say Uconn is next level when compared to another final 4 team that we lost to earlier in the year."
Yeah, exactly, Uconn has not been "on another level" for 10 years. They are at the highest level along with a half dozen or more other excellent programs each year, - and, yes, the best of the best sometimes. We don't have to claim utter dominance, and put down other excellent teams to feel great about the program. It seems particularly ludicrous to assert Heckle would be moving to a whole higher level at which her prior performance might not be reflective of what her performance could be at Uconn, when Heckle's team beat Uconn somewhat convincingly earlier in the year (I was at the game, the score ended up a bit tighter than the game actually played). We don't know how the subsequent elite 8 game with those two teams "at full strength" would have worked out ( I'd have picked Uconn). Heckel would be moving to a great opportunity with a proven program and coaching staff, but, seriously would Heckel at Uconn even beat USC (with JuJu stood back up) in a final four next year - who knows (I'd again pick Uconn). It is so tiresome to keep hearing that we are automatically at some higher level than everybody else every year in a changing college basketball landscape. Arguably, ND had the best roster last year - how'd that work out - that is why we have to just play the games and see. At the elite level at which Uconn is every year, it becomes more about culture, chemistry, and injuries than pure talent. Would benefit from Heckle from both talent and depth standpoint, if she doesn't negatively impact chemistry- she surely won't trip over any perceived higher level - she'll do her level best (LOL) - and we'll see

Better in what ways? Certainly not in knowing the UConn system. Not any quicker or in ball handling or at running a team. Please list the number of ways.
One and two may be given, but 'running a team'? There is currently no Nika or Kaitlyn on the roster, so that responsibility is certainly open to all who apply.

Some good thoughts here (above). I would add/edit the comment towards
the end: "it becomes more about culture, chemistry.... AND GENO".
Thread #130 (vide supra) was a nice prognostication (for me) that Kayleigh should/will be able to contribute at many levels... offensively, defensively and in
those intangibles that don't make the stat sheets. She looks relentless! Image
GENO channeling that energy! IMHO the ingredients are there...the UCONN
coaching staff will bring out the true HUSKY in this "K9".

u made my point
being one of the top 10 players doesn’t make the team substantially better and puts an existing player out of the rotation
Ok, as I noted earlier, Geno took in Chen when we had more guard support and as strong if not stronger rotation concept coming into the last year and Chen became a key piece. Heckel, while not a starter coming in, will be as critical due to our lack of experienced PGs. We have KK and Azzi if we need it, last year we had Paige, KK and Azzi. Kelis may be wonderful but we simply don't know and do we really want to pin our hopes on an unproven freshman in the UConn system? Heckel makes the rotation as a dangerous piece with very little drop off and YES she does make the team better.

Yes, I noticed that it was against lowly CAL POLY. However, it was her
energy, passing, steals ("Another steal by Heckel!"), driving
to the basket, hitting from outside, and her contribution to the transition
game... that more than caught my attention. Highlights are always like this... but I sure enjoyed the video. As for minutes (which was your question, Centerstream)... as they say "the minutes will take care of themselves"...
"IF" she can demonstrate some of this in the UCONN practices... Geno will KNOW and then, we will know. GO HUSKIES!

Have you been reading about Quantum Mechanics?
Planck is driving with his friend Schroedinger when a cop pulls them over. The cop asks, "Do you know how fast you were going?

Planck says, "No, but I know where I am."

Exasperated, the cop shouts "You were doing 70 in a 55 mph zone!"

Planck says, "Great, now I'm lost." At this point the cop is getting testy and tells Planck to pop open the trunk. He goes around to the back and shouts "Do you know you've got a dead cat in the trunk???"

Shroedinger says, "NOW I do."

no doubt the team would be better
my comment was “ substantially better”

Shade and Cheli played PG. And Ziebell has to get meaningful minutes SOMEWHERE because you can’t just have Azzi and Shade as deep threats, both of which I consider streaky. Ziebell can shoot it, but garbage minutes aren’t going to get her settled in, imo. Chen was a graduate student with one year of eligibility. Heckel has three years. The latter will have considerably more impact on rotation and possibly recruiting. Biggest unknown for me is what are her expectations. I certainly see her potential, but I don’t see a Chen or Lopez Senechal with this addition. Sera checked off many needs. I would categorize Heckel as a want.

Unless I am missing something Harpring is the only 2026 PG prospect that might be considered better than Heikel, that we might have a chance for, and at this point there doesn't seem to be much evidence that she has significant interest in Uconn.
There's evidence; not sure what would constitute "significant" interest.

We're going to need a lot more posts like this if we want to get this thread out to 20 pages before she commits to wherever.

USC was potentially on-track to final 4 when JU-JU went down and beat Uconn when JU-JU was up (earlier in the year). That is the context, of my being dismissive of the tiresome overreach that Uconn is at 'a whole higher level' than everybody else, seriously
No, UConn just had a higher gear, a larger fuel tank, and tougher mentality than all the #1 seeded teams. Also, it was March and April - THAT time of year, when it counts!

Go Huskies!!!
