Villanova takes a step down

The CAA is losing members fast. JMU, Delaware, William & Mary, Richmond, now Nova. Some rumors that the America East could think about sponsoring football, and add schools like CCSU, Sacred Heart, and Merrimack to join UNH, Maine, Bryant, etc. in football

The CAA is losing their top 2 football schools from 2024, Richmond and Villanova, plus William and Mary. The CAA has recently added Hampton, Campbell, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, and Bryant which are not Villanova's peer schools. Patriot football is a much better fit for Villanova than the current/future CAA.

CAA in trouble (plus changing name from Colonial to Coastal to be PC) and Patriot League schools have much better academic profile, not that it matters anymore

CAA is slowly turning into the Big South, it feels like. pretty boring brands in southern coastal states.

I know from personal knowledge that Bryant isn't in love with the conference. They just don't really have a choice right now. They prefer a more regional and better academic conference. I'm really not sure where Bryant is trying to go with all of this. They've lowered their acceptance standards, added liberal arts and sciences and despite seemingly leaving their Babson/Bentley model behind, seem to be thriving. Its a very well run operation, but I fear getting too far away from attracting really strong students will be a problem down the road. As of now, Bryant is doing really well in all of the rankings that really matter. I'm just not sure why they've made this aggressive move to play D1 sports and grow them so fast.

Really? Always assumed they were a rich dumb kid school. Guess I'm wrong

Nah. It’s a good business school with very strong Actuarial, Finance and Accounting majors. Their grads do very well on average, making a degree worth the cost.

Anyway, I have a friend who gives a lot of money to the school. His parents were large donors before him. I had lunch with him a couple of weeks ago and he said he was concerned and disappointed that the school was investing so much in athletics and loosening admission standards. That began when they added a lot of Liberal Arts majors to the curriculum. Previously it was almost entirely business and mathematics. He’s been making some noise that he doesn’t like the strategy, as have others.

I have no idea about the name change. I hope they rot.

Someone will mention yankee conference.

No college administrator has the colleges interest at heart. They're all about building their own empires. If they cant do it in one place they'll move on

I have family that recently graduated from Bryant. He makes big $$$ with a job in Boston and London.

Is Nova still “studying” whether to join the Big East for football?

UMass should join the Patriot. No need to upgrade their current facilities and I think their mascot/nickname fits perfectly too. They have a conference in state rival with Holy Cross. Get another game with Harvard each year Decent shot at making the playoffs...The benefits just keep adding up.
