Some thoughts on the Villanova game:
  • UConn royalty was in the house tonight as the 2015 & 2016 national champions were honored. Someone should ask Geno which team was better: 2015, 2016 or the one he has right now? 🧐
  • Denise Dillon is another outstanding coach. Villanova has been the 2nd best team in the BE and they are likely heading to the Big Dance. Some might suggest that UConn’s 49-point win over Villanova demonstrates how weak the conference is. I would suggest it demonstrates just how strong the Huskies are.
  • Bascoe is probably the best player in the BE who’s not a Husky. Tonight, against KK (a.k.a. Batgirl) and her UConn teammates Bascoe had a really tough night. For the game, Bascoe was 3/13 with only 8 points.
  • Last season, Ash & KK came off the bench to give the Huskies a jolt of energy. This season it’s Blanca & Kayleigh who supercharge the Huskies off the bench, particularly on defense. To Paraphrase Jim Flannery, "Every team in WBB wishes they had Blanca and Kayleigh coming off the bench."
  • Sarah is so good, so versatile and so effortless with her play that she racks up stats like she’s in a video game.
  • Let’s talk DEFENSE! The Huskies swarm opposing teams like angry bees, doubling whenever an opponent picks up the ball, getting their hands on the ball countless times, diving on the floor for loose balls and locking up opponents who make the mistake of picking up the ball in traffic. The Huskies held the Wildcats to 28% from the floor while forcing 26 turnovers.
  • The Huskies were a little better taking care of the ball tonight. But they still committed 14 turnovers, typically when they attempt to force passes through small windows. With that said, KK continues to be 3rd in the nation with an amazing 4.76 A/TO ratio.
  • I really appreciate Caroline's steady play as well as her ability to settle down the youngsters when she's on the floor, typically in the 4th qtr.
  • Everybody eats tonight!!!! 🤩
  • The Irish pay a visit to Gampel on Monday in what is surely MUST-SEE TV!

KK played like a mad thing, and Sarah was incredible, Blanca was dazzling and absurd at the same time, Azzi was quietly steady and reliable after missing a few layups early – and it was all against a tough scrappy Villanova team. And through it all, Ash had a fierce game though she only scored 2 pts. But everything else she did was golden

-as usual the defensive pressure was too much. This time forcing 25 turnovers.

-KK gets my vote for player of the game. Just a terrific all around game in just 22 minutes.

- Sarah filled up the stat sheet as usual but at least McCurry challenged her a little.

-You can tell how much Geno respects the Wildcats. His rotation was a little tighter than normal in the first half

-Third straight game that Serah was called for 3 seconds. Unusual because you rarely see it called anywhere else. Part of the problem is that it takes forever for her to make her move.

-This team is fearless going to the basket and finishing through contact.

-99 points against the second place team in the BE.

-Looking forward to the revenge match against ND.

Just a couple of observations. Kellis is and will be a holy terror. I'm growing more and more impressed with Kayleigh. She's what I'd call zippy, but she's never out of control or position and her release is very quick. Yeah, I'm appreciating her game more and more.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter when Villanova had their starters on the court, I said to myself "oh 💩, we're going to be in trouble." Oops, it didn’t last long, we held our own and Coach Dillon subbed out a few them.
In the game Analysis thread, I posted "After watching a few Nova games this season, I think the Huskies HAVE to control Bascoe and Allen." Mission accomplished, 11 points between them!
What a great game everyone played! While watching the first half, who would have thought that we would win by almost 50 points and hold them to 50?
I'm going to repeat myself "What a great game everyone played!"

Again, a TOTAL team effort. 60 points for the starters and 39 points for the BENCH That's teamwork. To single out a player doesn't do justice to the team except Caroline, 4 points / 6 rebounds and 1 assist. Anything positive from her is a positive. GO HUSKIES!!!!!!

Outscored them by 17 in the fourth quarter 😀
Unlike most teams, Villanova played their bench more than Uconn - had one starter foul out in 11 minutes which didn't help. 84 minutes v 78 minutes and the difference in minutes for post starters was only 4 minutes between Carter (5 fouls) and Serah Williams. So while I was very happy with the 4th Q by Uconn I think it was mostly against the Wildcats bench.

Shade only scored two points, but I thought this was one of her best games of the year. It seemed like every time Villanova turned the ball over, she was somewhere close to it -- doubling a player, in a passing lane, grabbing a pass a teammate had tipped.

Plus three offensive rebounds after (IIRC) the second game this season when she hadn't gotten one.
