Geez, it seems to be a Boneyard tradition that as soon as a past player is mentioned as having a similar role to a current player, people feel obliged to respond with posts that say, "(Current player) X has not nearly achieved what (past player) Y achieved in her career at UConn." Can't you assume that most Boneyarders, including the one who made the original comparison, already know that?My thoughts exactly. Tamika Williams holds the NCAA women’s collegiate record for career FG percentage at 70.1%. She was truly one UConn’s greats.
The analogy between Jana/Ice and Tamika Williams was with regard to their role on the team, nothing more. T. Williams' role in the 2001 and 2002 teams was that she was not relied on as a scorer, but she was heavily relied on as a rebounder. When she got an offensive rebound and had a chance to put it back up, she usually didn't miss (hence the 70% FG percentage), but she did not make amazing offensive scoring plays like her teammate Swin Cash or like Sarah on the current UConn team.
Perhaps Kiah Stokes would be a more recent and more palatable analogy to offer for this role?
