Villanova Post Game Thread

That was, I think, the UConn team we all thought we’d see all season after Florida. And Illinois. And BYU. And even Arizona. The bench showed the kind of depth we thought we would have. AK played great on both ends. And Reibe and Reed are a two headed monster.

Only complaints about this game is the looseness with the ball by Silas. Can’t be that loose with the ball against good teams. But also can we have someone in the backcourt to to an outlet for Silas so he doesn’t have to struggle bringing the ball up?

Also liked how tonight they made an effort to get the ball to the basket and they were coming off curls in the mid range where they had the option to pull up there or keep going. Also the limited number of 3s taken was a good thing. I think that this team falls in love with the 3pt shot and it hurts them. Team hit their free throws which was most definitely a welcome sight as well.

To get a big road win vs a good team despite Silas having a rough game is absolutely huge. Really balanced night offensively, bench stepped up. Reibe, Ross, Stewart and Malachi all gave us quality minutes at important moments in the game

Hurley trusted the bench a lot more tonight and they played with more confidence and more freedom.

Lets thank @Chief00 that Hurley listened to his advice and we went with a double big lineup which propelled us to that win..

But seriously, we went 9 deep and everyone contributed. We played with more aggression and were locked in defensively

He was great on D. He bit hard on that one pump fake where the guy made the jumper at the end of the shot clock and that was it, just great defense and timely defensive plays which ignited us.

That wasn’t the only issue. In each half, there were multiple possessions where he and the five failed to communicate on switches, which led to easy baskets at the rim.

Great way to turn things around. A lot of hustle out there tonight. We are another team when Reed is on. Scoring and minutes evenly distributed. Beating Villanova handily in front of 22, 000 on the road showed a lot of poise. We needed and got big games from a lot of guys that we need to depend on from here on out. Hurley very humble on postgame interview about how he may not have handled the bench well, particularly Jaylen Stewart, over the recent past. Good sign everyone pulling together. On to St Johns!

By far our best half of the Big East season. Typically a get right game is against a much weaker opponent but this felt like a get right game...

Our defense fell apart the last 4 games and it was great tonight. Ross is a huge difference maker on D, he needs to get consistent huge minutes from now on. We played physical and smart. No dumb shots from Solo. The bench which has been MIA overall for a long time was awesome tonight. Reibe played great and had the most impressive play of the season with his catch and finish. Jaylin with two timely threes. Malachi gave us good minutes.

Without all the unforced turnovers in the first half this would've been a beatdown from start to finish.

So happy with that performance.
good recap
That was a VERY satisfying performance
Bench was great and this should really restore confidence

Silas lost his mind for a moment there with TOs, you coujd see we were tight and pressing

Another thing there were really no momentum killing shots tonight. In the last couple of games whenever the team went on a run and got a little separation someone would jack up a quick shot which would lead to a run out the other way and an easy bucket which killed on the momentum we built up. Tonight though when we were on runs we looked for good shots within the offense.

Very nice bounce back win. Defense did a better job overall.

Clean up the unforced turnovers, just a little more consistently tenacious on the boards (we gave up 3-4 rebounds Nova had no excuse getting to), and cut with purpose on inbounds, and we’re REALLY cooking again.
Great win. Demary still needs to do a better job holding on to the ball. I could be wrong but when he played for Georgia I think he had 9 turnovers against St John's and had that same number or close to it when we last played the Johnnies.. He seems to slip on the floor at times too driving to hoop. Not sure what that is about. I know im knit picking, but I think he will be the key on Wednesday. Demary does a lot of good things, and I'm glad we have him.

.-.
The refs seem to swallow the whistle when Demary brings the ball up and gets mugged nonstop, causing half the TOs (other half due to carelessness). Maybe that’s the scouting report, handcheck handcheck handcheck, you won’t get called. Hopefully that gets better in the Tournament.
Demary was really pressured all game. 7 TO, not great. The refs were letting them play. Need to see Demary take care of the ball a bit better.
