Unrelated to Nova/Neptune but related to prospective coaches that could be on the move. Drake Coach Ben McC is being mentioned as a potential candidate in Indiana job. Interesting if true because of its potential impact on any Stirtz portal decision
You can bet he’ll follow him there if it does happen, if he doesn’t go pro. Would be a good start to the roster and he looks all things Indiana, and they’d have the NIL.

There is going to he a lot of demand for PGs this portal season.

Not surprised

I think English gets one more year at PC. If they miss the tourney next year, I think he's gone too

And it ain't hard to please the PC fan base. Cooley had 3 tournament wins and 1 Sweet 16 in ten years and he's their version of Jim Calhoun

You know what really grinds PC fans gears, UConn beating them on the ice.

Norlander confirmed. Thank god... best thkng to happen to Nova ball since Jay left.
This.

Long lauded for his resume as an assistant coach at Villanova, the Neptune tenure ended with me never feeling like he had what it takes for the pressure of being a head coach in the Big East. Maybe it was me reading into his body language too much, but he often seemed overwhelmed/frozen on the sidelines.

He'll land a good assistant job somewhere soon and it wouldn't surprise me if he eventually gets back to being a HC, but he's a guy who probably needs success at the mid-major level before getting a chance at the high-majors.

The big question is whether he’ll be able to afford such the turtleneck collection as an assistant.

Calhoun wasn't perfect but he earned that right and set up Ollie with a staff, Blaney stayed on in the tourney ban year. It's easy to be a genius in hindsight. Would you have trusted Jeff Hathaway to hire the next coach?
Yeah there is a reason why Blaney wasn't there after that year as Ollie's head got a little too big and thought he was the hot shot and didn't need any help. Look were KO is now as far as coaching. LOL! I give him some credit for motivating the team but he surely has world implode around him after he thought he was too good even for advice from Calhoun.

The whole waiting to retire so your hand-picked former-player replacement gets the job is such a stupid move every time. Cocky HOF coaches always think they know best and don't... Calhoun included.
I agree with the sentiment but Neptune didn't play for Jay Wright. He worked his way up from video coordinator and was an assistant for a lot of years for him. Neptune also wasn't his hand picked replacement, Jay didn't want him to take over. Jay wanted Baker Dunleavy to be his successor (also would've been a terrible pick.) The school wanted Neptune and Jay only gave his blessing if there were assurances they got everything in place so they could compete at the highest level with Dunleavy being GM.

If he's suggesting that either Kimani or Luke would become the next Villanova head coach I would have mixed feelings about it. I'd hate to lose either one, but that would be a great first head coaching job for either of them.
There is No chance that happens. go cut yer teeth in the MAAC.. was my problem with hiring Neptune. And he had a longer stretch of success as an and assistant directly under the powers that were. Hurley assistants are bit getting a job like Nova

No chance that happens
Agree. I think the original poster was actually suggesting that a existing mid major might get the Villanova job which ultimately might result in a opening for either Luke or Kimani.

that does make sense. This is the time for assistants under Hurley to get job looks.

In that case thank God for our time in the AAC. The thought of Ollie still being our coach and Hurley at Pitt is a nightmare.

BTW, apparently nobody in a hiring position in college basketball shares your opinion. Truth is a good coach at UConn should have dominated the AAC, instead Ollie brought us to the bottom of that conference.

Ollie had a “show cause” penalty against him, effectively banning him from coaching in college through 2021, or effectively 2022. The show cause was based on infractions so minor, and that were reported by UConn, that when UConn tried to litigate them, UConn received one of the worst legal beat downs in employment history.

Ollie was coaching in the NBA last year, so it appears that people that matter do not share your opinion.

If the AAC is such a great conference, how many bids is it getting this year? Memphis is the only team within a time zone of an at large.

From my understanding of mixed Trilly tea, Kimani is angling hard for VCU. It's unclear if they have interest in him, but Odom is either going Nova or UVA, so the job will be open either way.
Kimani seems to be in the VCU top 3. Trilly says clear list of "Mike Morrell, Rob Jones, Kimani Young"

Another main option for Kimani/Luke is UNCW if USF hires Takayo Siddle. It's unclear if the salary range will be high enough, but it's a good launching job in a nice area (near where Luke's Dad lives), and the AD is the former deputy AD at UConn. It might be the right job that would make them consider lowering their salary if they really wanted to be a HC.

I know this is off topic (KO and Kimani), but this is a big hire for Villanova. Getting them back to the upper echelon of the Big East would be a big deal. UConn, Marquette, Creighton, St. John's (if they follow up Pitino correctly), and then Villanova could be a formidable group of Top 25 programs in one league.

It also helps with the possibility of a future merger should UConn miss out on the early 2030's conference realignment on their own.

If form holds true, UConn will be exiting the Big East right as Villanova is ready to become the class of a UConn-less Big East (which works for me).

We are in agreement here. Ollie was fired because he was a lousy coach, the other stuff was just noise, I also agree that the AAC stinks, which is why a good coach at UConn should have dominated it the same way Gonzaga dominates their lousy conference.

Would be interesting if Bobby Hurley came back to Uconn as an assistant if Kimani or Luke leave. . One year left on his ASU contract and they made it public they are not extending him.

Your posts on this topic have gotten more ridiculous over time.

UConn was in a hellhole of a conference. If UConn had joined the Big East when it split, Ollie would have kept UConn very competitive
There is a little bit to this.
Ollie had the challenge of coaching in AAC and a fan base teetering on apathy. But ultimately, what did Ollie in was performance on the court and his teams were not competitive despite decent recruiting. The program was clearly headed in the wrong direction and the school decided he wasn’t the person to course correct.

I don't enjoy anyone getting fired but Kyle Neptune will go down as an all-time bad hire by Nova

Ollie would have fared even worse in the Big East. He checked out and wasn't coaching. The AAC had nothing to do with his undoing.

Right like I had already stated he fell off after 2014, I'm pretty sure Blaney planned on retiring after 2013 if I can recall.

You could kind of sense something in the last minute when Neptune and Hurley were talking, something along the lines of I'm out of here.
