Who are the Nova fans hoping for?I’m not sure Jay picked Neptune
Nova can do better than Collin’s imoI think Odom and Collins would be leading candidates
From my understanding of mixed Trilly tea, Kimani is angling hard for VCU. It's unclear if they have interest in him, but Odom is either going Nova or UVA, so the job will be open either way.
The real question is do we win the 2014 national championship with a different coach? I'm not sure that we do. KO was the right guy for that year. The problem is he was the wrong guy for every year afterwards.Calhoun wasn't perfect but he earned that right and set up Ollie with a staff, Blaney stayed on in the tourney ban year. It's easy to be a genius in hindsight. Would you have trusted Jeff Hathaway to hire the next coach?
I find teams often end up making selections to appease everyone. No bold selection will come out of a team, less risk, less upside.I would want exactly 0 single person tobe trusted to hire a head coach. I would never hire a coach to do it especially. Too many blind spots.
Hiring for ANY important job should be a team effort with many stakeholders involved.
Bad@ss coach you mean, right?I doubt they go for one of our assistants - NW will likely land some coach in the puritan coaching tree, like Nova would do with Collins. Schools like that care as much about image as winning. Nova fans at MSG all feel like they rolled there from a massage at the country club. If a program wants to win they’d grab guys like Beard, who is a bad@ss but comes with reputational warts.
I can totally see Collins at Nova. Hadn’t thought of it but it makes total sense.
I agree. Shaka may have brought it home in 2014, and he wouldn't have failed after that, so he would still have the job, and we would be good, but not back to back championship good. The real question is do we win the 2014 national championship with a different coach? I'm not sure that we do. KO was the right guy for that year. The problem is he was the wrong guy for every year afterwards.
With the benefit of hindsight, that's probably because he benefited from Jim Calhoun developing the players, notably, Shabazz Napier. But after the championship season, he seemed disinterested in putting in the effort and wanted to distance himself from Jim Calhoun, two fatal mistakes. In many ways, he's the "anti-Hurley".
As long as we delving into alternative realities, if KO doesn't get the job, it probably goes to Shaka Smart, who was lobbying heavily for it. He's a really good coach, but is he as good as Dan Hurley? I don't think so. so in the end, everything, including the miserable KO seasons, worked out for the best.
Alterique Gilbert was a McDonald's all American, still got Daniel Hamilton, and Purvis to transfer, he was still getting talent, of course not at the level if we were still in the BE. It was a hell hole of a conference and Ollie fell off both things can be true.Your posts on this topic have gotten more ridiculous over time.
UConn was in a hellhole of a conference. If UConn had joined the Big East when it split, Ollie would have kept UConn very competitive.

So true.Nova can do better than Collin’s imo
Image - school won two titles under a straight arrow Don Juan, and enjoys feeling classy. I mean look at Neptune - what in the world were his credentials other than fitting an image? So true.
I don't know why Collins is a viable candidate for Villanova?
He's been a .500 coach for his career.
Yes, I understand it's Northwestern but consider we're talking about the B10 (overrated conference).
He's been there 11 years, and you would think somebody would have poached him by now,
Odom is a much better candidate.
You can bet he’ll follow him there if it does happen, if he doesn’t go pro. Would be a good start to the roster and he looks all things Indiana, and they’d have the NIL.Unrelated to Nova/Neptune but related to prospective coaches that could be on the move. Drake Coach Ben McC is being mentioned as a potential candidate in Indiana job. Interesting if true because of its potential impact on any Stirtz portal decision
You know what really grinds PC fans gears, UConn beating them on the ice.Not surprised
I think English gets one more year at PC. If they miss the tourney next year, I think he's gone too
And it ain't hard to please the PC fan base. Cooley had 3 tournament wins and 1 Sweet 16 in ten years and he's their version of Jim Calhoun

This.Norlander confirmed. Thank god... best thkng to happen to Nova ball since Jay left.
The big question is whether he’ll be able to afford such the turtleneck collection as an assistant.This.
Long lauded for his resume as an assistant coach at Villanova, the Neptune tenure ended with me never feeling like he had what it takes for the pressure of being a head coach in the Big East. Maybe it was me reading into his body language too much, but he often seemed overwhelmed/frozen on the sidelines.
He'll land a good assistant job somewhere soon and it wouldn't surprise me if he eventually gets back to being a HC, but he's a guy who probably needs success at the mid-major level before getting a chance at the high-majors.
Yeah there is a reason why Blaney wasn't there after that year as Ollie's head got a little too big and thought he was the hot shot and didn't need any help. Look were KO is now as far as coaching. LOL! I give him some credit for motivating the team but he surely has world implode around him after he thought he was too good even for advice from Calhoun.Calhoun wasn't perfect but he earned that right and set up Ollie with a staff, Blaney stayed on in the tourney ban year. It's easy to be a genius in hindsight. Would you have trusted Jeff Hathaway to hire the next coach?
I agree with the sentiment but Neptune didn't play for Jay Wright. He worked his way up from video coordinator and was an assistant for a lot of years for him. Neptune also wasn't his hand picked replacement, Jay didn't want him to take over. Jay wanted Baker Dunleavy to be his successor (also would've been a terrible pick.) The school wanted Neptune and Jay only gave his blessing if there were assurances they got everything in place so they could compete at the highest level with Dunleavy being GM.Norlander confirmed. Thank god... best thkng to happen to Nova ball since Jay left.
The whole waiting to retire so your hand-picked former-player replacement gets the job is such a stupid move every time. Cocky HOF coaches always think they know best and don't... Calhoun included.
There is No chance that happens. go cut yer teeth in the MAAC.. was my problem with hiring Neptune. And he had a longer stretch of success as an and assistant directly under the powers that were. Hurley assistants are bit getting a job like NovaIf he's suggesting that either Kimani or Luke would become the next Villanova head coach I would have mixed feelings about it. I'd hate to lose either one, but that would be a great first head coaching job for either of them.
Agree. I think the original poster was actually suggesting that a existing mid major might get the Villanova job which ultimately might result in a opening for either Luke or Kimani. No chance that happens
