I would argue that those are more impressive than Griner's. She's 5 inches shorter!

Also, MoJeff and Breanna are pretty cute together, she gave her a big hug after the first dunk.

Breanna seems like such a humble kid. So excited to see her next year in UConn colors!

it made ESPN's top 10 last night. i think Morgan's 3-point shooting performance did as well.

No, of course not. She missed the dunks in the last two rounds so that WCBB could be saved.

That's interesting that she missed any dunks - after watching her do those two alley-oops, I was thinking maybe the reason she did them was because she thought she might lose the ball on the way up if she tried a 'traditional' one-handed dunk.

BUT those first two in the video looked quite easy for her. She wasn't exactly exerting maximum effort to put those over the rim..... I think she doesn't have even 1% of the requisite showboat genes to try and really throw one down hard.

What 'kind' of dunks did she miss?

And again, the fact that the other girls who participated couldn't dunk, and that Breanna's dunks were graded on a curve, only accentuates an aspect of the game that women will NEVER
be on par with men.

Seriously, is there a Pizza Hut on Wooster Street in New Haven?

Breanna's overall athleticism is, however, terrific, and that will serve her and Uconn in good stead.

The full show is available on ESPN3.

It won't ruin WBB forever, or even for a few minutes, but it does have the potential of making the game different if coaches start building in plays to accommodate dunking. I'm hoping that won't happen, that dunking, to the extent it is done, is random and strategic at the same time.

And to someone else's point, it's women's basketball, not men's. It is a different game, played differently, which is exactly what many of us like about it. To treat it otherwise is to suggest that if only they'd develop a little more, women would be just somewhat-anatomically-different men and would play the game the same way the men do now.

There are a few of us radicals who believe the men's game is not necessarily Basketball As It Was Meant To Be Played. If you enjoy it, knock yourself out, but that doesn't mean everyone has to.

I love her humility as much as her talent. Breanna would have been the perfect subject for a Norman Rockwell masterpiece! :)

Don't believe I've seen a woman do an alley-oop before, pretty impressive.

Griner did a catch off the backboard to herself in high school in one of the YouTube videos.

Stewart's dunks were nice to see, but she did not slam them with authority the way Griner has done over the past few days, which is clouding my perception of Stewart's dunks. I am sure if I look at them in a few weeks I will be more impressed. Still, nice to see her do two different alley-oops, which is an impressive feet (one with two hands, one with one hand).

Interesting thought (about not being a showboat). And in line with my post above (about not slamming them down with authority).

Thanks. Yes I care. Not that it will ever happen but can you imagine a tie game, or one point behind, with time running out, shot comes off the rim and Brianna goes up and throws it down right at the buzzer. Anyway, there is a time and place for most things in life. The dunk is no exception, especially when it isn't over done.

Of course I care. If she can get up that high for a dunk, she can get up that high for a blocked shot and a rebound. The only women I can think of off the top of my head with a comparable combination of height and athleticism are Candace Parker, Brittney Griner, and Sylvia Fowles.

Good company.

Dunking, in exhibition or in a game, is showboating. Using that leaping ability in a game is another story.

She gives up 5 inches of height and 3 inches of wing span to greiner. That means her standing reach is about 6 inches less. Give her a year of Uconn's training and she will match greiner's dunking ability. She is more impressive that greiner.

When/if Breanna or Kiah go against Brittney, it may strongly resemble the epic 'David vs. Goliath' battle between UCLA's Sidney Wicks (6'7") vs. Jacksonville's Artis Gilmore (7'2") back in the day! ;)

Hint: David wins again! :)

It's a short video, but you can advance to 1:20 to see the Wicks vs. Gilmore portion:

I understand that some here don't like women dunking. I don't understand why they feel the need to post in a thread where many are enjoying it and taking the wind out of their sails.

It was an exhibition and people are STILL posting negative about it. Sheeesh.

She is 6'4" so she gives up only 4" in height, but I think you are right on the money re: wingspan differential.

I would also bet that Breanna's standing vertical leap is at least several inches higher than BG's (I have no evidence other than watching them play). In all, Breanna's physical attributes put her quite close to BG in a number of key areas. I don't know of any other WCBB players that you can say that about. Players like Chiney O. and Glory Johnson are tall and very athletic, but it seems to me that Breanna is at another level with her combo of hops, height, wingspan and quickness.

It is a different game if the goaltending call on Wicks is made. It is also a differnet game if dunking had been allowed. But, hail to the victors, and give UCLA credit. Of all their national championships during that run, their 1970 national championship culminating with the victory over Jacksonville was the most impressive. Make no mistake, though, that UCLA team was loaded, just not as big as they were or would soon be inside.
