Valkyries thread (Tip Hayes, Kaitlyn Chen)

Great for Kaitlyn. Hope she has a long career in the W. One thing that the Valyries must see is that Kaitlyn may not be the flashiest on the floor but she can always be counted upon to play a really solid game with a commendable AST/TO ratio. Looking back at her play at UConn and her performance in the FF: Solid.

Am I the only one who is lacking in their knowledge of Norse mythology? Always was curious why this name was chosen.
Valkyrie, in Norse mythology, any of a group of maidens who served the god Odin and were sent by him to the battlefields to choose the slain who were worthy of a place in Valhalla.
Before reading your post, I just assumed that a Valkyrie was some kind of female warrior in Norse mythology. I must confess that now that I know exactly what a Valkyrie actually is, it doesn’t quite hold the same cache as a team nickname……:(

The good news is that I learned something….. :)

Wagner's great musical piece alone, and what kind of movie scenes it's typically used for, made Valkyries a great name for a women's sports team, period.

But the more-specific Norse mythology info, which I kindasorta knew about before, makes the name all the better now.
