Val Ackerman Retires

A person named "Friar J" is asking me why I'm here, while posting on a UConn fan forum. Cool story, bro...
Not you personally, nobody cares 2 schits about you. I’m asking about the University of Connecticut that apparently according to you would make a LOT more as an independent.

You do know that most of the tournament units are sent back to us right?
We don't get most of it. We get a larger share, but not most. In 2024 when we won it all, we received a little over $8 million, then Marquette and Creighton received a little over $6 million, etc, etc. No, we don't get most of it. We've been feeding the conference ever since we returned...

Sorry, I'm having a hard time reading your posts because I'm super busy worshipping my life-sized posters of God Shammgod and Austin Croshere, and that one time we made it to the Final Four... sorry, bro... it was so epic, I haven't been able to focus for 2 decades...

We only got $8 million in 2024 because the units are spread out over multiple years. I can guarantee you we will be close to $10 million when the new tax filings come out for 2025.

We won back to back, my friend. Lol if you think we keep most of the money! I look forward to your breakdown of the financials, though...

.-.
UConn fans full of hot takes.

Tell me you didn't follow BE basketball before you rejoined the core BE, without telling me you didn't pay attention to BE basketball. Val saved and the BE thrived post reformation thanks to her leadership. You're all blinded by a few down years since you joined.

Maybe we aim a tad bit higher, for the entire conference

Maybe some people don’t mind the conference getting stepped on nearly every Selection Sunday. We care, we know it means something, we know it means money

We think we need better leadership. You don’t have to agree.

Let me break it down for you.

Each unit is worth $2 million. The $2 million is spread out over 6 years, so each year you receive $350k.

The units are paid in arrears, so in 2024, you get paid what you earned from 2017-2023. In that time frame, we earned a total of 7 units as a BE member.

7 x $350k is $2.450 million.

In 2024 we earned $2 million more than the second highest BE school.

Yeah, I think it's fair to say we keep most of the money.

Navery has already shared a report on this board that showed we only keep approximately 69% of the credit value. Which means we kick 1/3 back to the conference.

So getting back to the original point, which is that our tv contract in this conference is highway robbery and will not allow us to stay competitive without a new contract or significant external investment...

Your calculation presumes that 100% of excess revenue is paid to Connecticut is due to tournament credit and not other merit factors. UConn's 19 tournament units earned over the last four years (2022–2025) are projected to deliver a total of roughly $38 overall to the Big East. How much of that do you believe UConn will keep? All $38 million?

Share the report

Her greatest accomplishment was getting UConn back into the Big East

The conference has notoriously bad officiating, especially towards their bread winner

The conference gets screwed in the selection process, even losing out to the Mountain West in some seasons

The conference gets screwed in seedings

The conference even gets screwed by having it's two best programs in the same region in 2026

WHAT ABOUT ANY OF THAT MAKES ANYONE THINK SHE'S A STRONG LEADER? She was a doormat. She was walked over

Then she compounds all of the above by enabling James Breeding to represent the Big East in the dance where he gets the chance to influence the outcome of the championship game, against the Big East

She can't leave fast enough
Pretty good summary

It is more complicated than that. People need to stop conflating revenue with income.

Your mom could have gotten that deal done.
Your mom brought you into being. Credit where credit is due.
Why are you here?
Why are you and others so rude to a guest who is not being antagonistic?
To discuss Val Ackerman's retirement with people from a different perspective on the BE.
Easily recognized, and I appreciate it notwithstanding that I possess to ability to join the pig pile but choose not to because it more resembles a pity party.

Yeah, Val Ackerman wasn't able to do what nobody commenting here was able to do. And she's retiring.

Celebrate that she has temporarily united her detractors in an animating passion from which dubious sustenance is being drawn. Then what?

.-.
@Hans Sprungfeld I'd call this antagonistic. This is how he came in lol.
I just reread the 2 pages that preceded his entrance, and those that came afterward. I far more agree with his later comment that questions what constituted "trolling" by him than with any such claim. I also think that more of my compatriots show up as insecure, ungenerous, and even butt-hurt more so than either of our two visitors do. It's a pretty common posture and doesn't reflect our best side.

For as long as UConn continues to occupy its long-term status as 'biggest loser' in Conference Alignment, our feelings will be informed by our sense of ill-treatment & accompanying bruises.

Our basketball success and continued pursuit of FBS football has put us in a unique position and made for a frustrating story.

We're all going to see what comes next, and nobody here seems unhappy that the old Commissioner has retired. And a lot of folks get to complain like @freescooter, and complain some more when fans from other Big East schools see things differently from us.

As was said this week in a different thread on a different topic, Shrug.

Tell us all again about how UConn would make more money as an independent, genius.

Brother if you think @FriarJ is doing good here, you're on your own.

I'll say again and it will get deleted again - isn't this a UConn board? Moderators?
