The UConnBlog comes through with the best summary yet

Here is the Geno photo after Anna's 3pt make

1574267445819.png

They also have the clip of the 8 pass around the world play finished with the Crystal 3. What I had not noticed is the good things Aubrey did in that play.

1) A nice aggressive move that got the attention of the defender before outletting back

2) The final crosscourt pass to Crystal was almost in her air space but knew where Crystal was so she did not interfere.

3) Held a nice football style screen for Crystal for a long time for a clear 3 pt shot.

Lots of other gems but unbelievably, no mention of Irwin's game.:confused::confused:

What a beautiful thing to watch every player make a contribution in yesterday's game..........................that certainly isn't always going to be the case but perhaps now Geno will make a little more use of the bench when the team is only winning by 15-20 points......................every minute saved on a starter's legs is a benefit.....................that's really the only way the starting five won't be exhausted by the time the regular season ends........

In another post by you--you spoke of how good you think Olivia is and will be. Here is anothe thougt.
Olivia Nelson Ododa played a Virginia (actually Luxemburg ) player. Probably their most physical player who banged and pushed and pulled (along with 3 others) on ONO all evening long. Yes she had 3 fouls--well earned--but she proved her thin frame can stand up to big physical players. Jablonowski is one strong player. The attack was to take ONO out of the game and she withstood the assault.
Agree with your comments. I also believe that 2 of the 3 fouls called on Liv were borderline at best.

It is good to read the comments about this game. No more than a week ago UConn had a weak bench. Before that it was Kyla and Molly would never be good enough to help the team in prime time, Ania was too slow to play good defense and the team in general was just not a good team. A thank you shout out to the poster who said be patient, things will get better. This is not the time for a team to peak, it is much too early and it is easy to see that UConn will get a lot better as the team gets used to playing together. Just saying.:)

You are totally RIGHT. Yes, I posted less than positives about KYLA, on Ania I was always positive, Griffin too.
However, had Kyla shown this side of her game NO ONE would have had a negative comment about her game.
As with Ania, because of her First Night 3 shooting it was evident she could drill it.
If Uconn can replicate this game and get better with each game to March--Wow!! I'm a realist, pessimist my glass is 3/4th's dust. But this team has 7 kids now that can fill the needs. Still too short a bench but life isn't fair and Geno has to live with those he has. It is a lot better than my now 1/2 dust glass could expect.
One comment on UConn Fans--they are no different than other teams that have won 11 NC and been to 13 FF's in a row. We expect perfection (not really) when Geno has trouble recruiting and going into a new season with not enough top players to fill the spots---we complain, we pick Geno apart, . After games we second guess--
Would the term Monday Morning Quarterback have been coined if most fans/most team didn't do that????
Face it except for being totally spoiled we are like any other fan of any other team. JUST SAYING.

I know this song has the same old words. The refrain continues and I agree. As stated by a UCONN Ortho said it is not IF it's when. The more time a player plays the closer she/he comes to an injury. Uconn's OWN said that
I'm just repeating the specialist lyrics.

We all thought Molly finally got over her reluctance to shoot the ball last season, but I guess old habits are hard to break. As one of the best 3-pt shooters on the team, I suspect Geno will strongly encourage Molly to let it fly when she’s open.
Molly passes the ball to her classmate Kyla. It's like looking to get the ball to Maya or Stewie.

when you compare UConn to some other programs like Notre Dame, they have been incredibly lucky avoiding serious season ending injuries............some on the ND board wonder if UConn trainers are simply doing a better job.............that could be but sometimes it's just a matter of fate.........

While "conditioning" involves physical activity and some similar to the games physical activity, I believe in Conditioning and I'd bet if a study were made that may be a factor in Uconn's success rate over other teams.
Conditioning isn't all fun and I moaned an groaned while doing it --it does help especially with the young.

Almost a tale of two games or three. Early on, UConn missed easy layup after easy layup. Being height-challenged, they have to make the gimme's. Also ominous that Virginia, not a particularly tall team themselves, were able to come close to UConn in total rebounds. And then there were the double- and triple-teams of ONO. Other teams understand that she has no help coming from the other side. Mob ONO, and she'll have to pass off to the guards for outside shots.

On the other hand, Griffin is beginning to play Gabby-like, just a spark plug who hustles and steals, and fights. She's the key. Walker is beginning to play like a star in her own right.

We'll have to scrap and scrap to win, because we won't have height this season, and we won't always make those open three's.

As Coach Geno put it, our two first-team AA's are gone, this isn't last year's team, and we'll have to find other ways to win.

Broadway, you typically provide balanced assessments that don't overreact to one game. Regarding UConn's current bench, while its great that we have multiple solid subs, the team still has limited rebounding and point guard depth. Much better than past seasons, but no reason to say we have a deep bench-all depends on the match ups.
