Just a note.. and not that it’s really that important, but I don’t think they’re blood related… "Uncle" or "Aunt" is a common way of recognizing closeness and respect for elders in Polynesian culture.

For example, a highly respected male elder in a community may be called "Uncle ___" by anybody in that community, regardless of blood ties.

Fair enough. I have a lot of close friends I consider more as family than blood relations. Still, a cool connection and nice to see how Seau still has impact after his passing.

True....and they are playing from behind in this tournament. It's going to bite them unless it changes. UCLA and UCONN would win in double digits in that scenario.

I know that there were ugly games in each of the championship wins in the past, but UCONN and UCLA are better equipped at make South Carolina pay for that, than teams in years past. They can still win it all, but they need to up the game. It's down to 3 games left. It's now or never. I don't have a good feeling about their chances at this point. We shall see.

We can beat Duke and Texas/TCU playing ugly; only need one pretty game.
 
An interesting matchup, especially when looking at the coaches. Kara Lawson is in many ways a younger version of Dawn Staley: both former point guards with success in college, pros, and Olympics. I think both relate to their players similarly. Watch the video of Lawson giving her “Handle Hard Better” talk to her team a couple of years ago… giving life advice to players on the court. Dawn earned her degree at Virginia, Kara earned hers at Tennessee… both preach the value of education. And both can recruit AND retain players. It will be a close game today.

I don't think they're similar beyond their achievements in women's basketball, and Dawn made it clear recently that they do not have a relationship. Kara is simply a younger coach than Dawn, and Dawn does not see herself in Kara in any way. There's nothing wrong with this. Kara is not mini Dawn, and that's okay. Women's basketball will be okay with this not being the reality.

I honestly can't wait until this game is over because the media tries to make this forced connection between the two even though both have made it crystal clear that they do not have a relationship. The media will try to do it again next season, too.

No relationship… okay. And to be clear, Lawson is in her first head coaching gig, albeit a fairly high profile one, while Dawn has established herself as one of the game’s elite head coaches (3 natties will do that). Right now, they’re competitors for titles and recruits.

Their styles are similar, though. Defensive pressure, limit turnovers on offense, get points in transition… I think Duke looks a lot like Maryland, and Maryland gave us trouble. What we do have is a deep, experienced bench.

Maryland had an answer to everything except Fulwiley. And that’s why we’re still playing today.

They do that with a lot of coaches. Remember Geno and Muffet?

True. The difference is that they truly despise each other (for various reasons) and the media wanted to play that up for ratings (I certainly would if I was a network executive). Meanwhile, they're trying to frame Kara as some sort of Dawn protégé even though that's [apparently] never been the case. I don't think Dawn is interested in having a protégé, and I don't think Kara is in dire need of a mentor at this point.
 
It felt good to win on the backs of our seniors. Sania, Raven, Bree, and Tehina all provided something to push us into the final four. It felt apropos.
 
They need to take the on ball charge out of the women’s game. The officials clearly don’t know how to officiate it and continue to reward defensive fouls.

Just happened to LSU as well.

No offense, but down the stretch seemed like Duke played like there was a little bit of pressure on them.

Lawson is coming though. No question about that.

Still believe this btw. If UConn (or just Bueckers) goes supernova against UCLA then turns in an average game against us in the finals, we can win it. We're not beating Bueckers in a superwoman cape or a team 45% from 3, but we can beat a regression to mean UConn.
 
Congrats to Chloe for being named Birmingham 2's MVP!
