How can they be fatigued with that deep bench?

Recruiting? Dawn is just very honest when she recruits. She tells them it's crowded, but they will play 15-20 min per game, be part of the fam, compete and win titles, and start when they are upperclassman. It works!

LSU always beat up on the board here, but...

AD and Prez thrilled with Mulkey hire. She immediately made them relevant again, they already lucked into an ncaa title, and she continues to recruit well.

They will be around again this year in final 8, and I'm sure they left the SC game believing they can beat them in a rematch.

Mulkey recruits less quantity than Dawn, but then she can play her stars more minutes. Kids like that, you can't be a Clark, JuJu, Morrow, Reese, FJ unless you play 30min a game.

Different styles make it fun to follow, it's a great year for NCAA women. Even Tenn being competitive again has been positive.
When has Tennessee not been competitive?

Not many legend would have fired their coach for blowing a game agaunst SCar.
Not sure it will work out for them.

… MiLaysia is a very talented player but doesn’t have a very high BB IQ. You can tell she was the only player on her team that was good, that they blew out everybody, and her coach let her do whatever she wanted. Talaysia Cooper was the same.
Not a coincidence they are both SCHSL products. HS infrastructure, girls and boys, is abysmal across the state. Poor coaching, physical development, officiating, and scheduling. Typical gameplan is “go score.”

I was shocked Edwards arrived so polished.

A'ja Wilson's jersey is being retired in a pregame ceremony prior to the start of the Auburn game this next Sunday.

This is the first I'm hearing of this! I hope they air it on TV.

When she figures out that better shot selection and decision making will earn her minutes, she’s going to be an All American. I thought she’d make that jump this year but it hasn’t happened yet.
From what I’ve heard, Dawn is trying to pound that into her head.

They built a statue of her BEFORE they retired her jersey? That seems odd. You would think it might have been the other way around.

Having the most good players works for most coaches.

Mulkey was basically excuse making, smh.

I guess her team of scrappy no-talents went as far as her coaching could take them (he says drily).

Reminds me of her saying her young team wasn't ready to match up with experienced SCar last year. They were the defending champion with bulk of their roster back and South Carolina had to replace five starters.
This post captures the sentiment of my pre-LSU game thoughts perfectly. Mulkey is always trying to make herself into an underdog despite her teams having high national rankings and being chock full of conference/national award candidates. It's sickening and needs to be called out more. As I said earlier, Brenda Frese used this same schtick leading up to her 2006 natty. When she tried to use it post-natty, it fell upon deaf ears.

How are you going to be one of the "haves" in WCBB and try to move like a "have not"? FOH, Kim!

My thoughts on last night's game? I don't have that many. Things looked great going into the 4th quarter. Then, the 4th quarter hit.:(

I know what the narrative will be--Tennessee hung with South Carolina. Well, they hung with a South Carolina team that decided to play undisciplined for the last quarter of the game. I don't even think that we were fatigued (on the other hand, Ruby Whitehorn was sucking wind at the end of the game). We did not execute. Can Tennessee be given some credit for that? Sure, but not as much as their fans are going to want to take. This was the case of a coach needing to tighten the reins long before she did.

I think SCar played poorly on offense and and more or less blew Tennessee out before bad decisions and a nervous reserve let Tennessee chip away at the lead in the 4th.

I was surprised at how bad Tennessee looked.

I'm willing to entertain the idea that in a rematch Caldwell wouldn't allow Coooper to jack horrible shots for three quarters before adjusting.

The statue was provided 100% via donation from Dawn and a few donors that wanted to honor Wilson’s accomplishments sooner rather than later. The statue was installed knowing that there would be a few years before Wilson would even be eligible for her jersey to be retired by the school.

So one is more of a community honor, the other is a school honor requiring certain milestones to be hit, hence the timeline.

I would hope so--because 5/21 is just nasty work.

And the refusal to admit it keeps us from closing the gap.
I don’t think it’s widespread across the board bad. However, if you’re from here you know how the school money is divided up. If you‘re from the suburbs there’s 2000+ students, probably A new school with all the bells and whistles and a coach’s dream in a talent pool. Then for much of SC you have a bunch of small town schools built in the middle of nowhere with 200-500 students with their own disadvantages in fielding any kind of team. They will have a girl’s bb player come around once a decade and just blow it up. They get all the press and coaches flock to see them play. Enter T Cooper and M Fulwiley. While Fulwiley and Cooper honed their skills on the black top (it is well documented), Joyce had a little more structure improving her skills. So while your assertion that the coaching is atrocious in SC as a whole isn’t entirely correct there are places where it is lacking for various reasons.

BTW I am a retired HS coach so sort of know what I’m talking about. I didn’t coach WBB for a long time but coached another sport. I had a daughter who did play HSBB though so have some experience in that capacity also.

This is a straight up LIE!
I know….comical all the players from SC that are stars over the years. Mylasia had people going to hs games that never considered watching a girls game. When u have a player that much better u let her go. College is different. The state of SC high school sports has nothing to do with her polish.

I doubt she had teammates similar to what she does now so u play a totally different style in HS

This^^^^^

I was there and never remotely felt UT could win. SC had 22 point lead with 8 minutes to go. Then got complacent. Did anyone really feel UT had a shot by cutting it to 7 with about 15 seconds. Hats off to them for fighting hard at the end, but after the first quarter they were never in the game.

IDT we got complacent. Dawn let a couple of players try to prove why she should trust them to close out games and now when they look at film they’ll know why Dawn doesn’t trust them. By then Tennessee got 4 long rebounds off of missed 3 pt shots and got easy buckets, got energized and before Dawn could get a time-out the LV got a second wind. Up to that point Tennessee was sucking wind and it could have been a total domination.

As it was, Dawn will have good film and they’ll have to sit through an hour of “what did you see?” and “what were you thinking?” ;)

I believe that The Vols were fighting for a pyrrhic victory cutting the deficit to single digits.
