Fowles has been less than 100% and Parker is not strong enough to play center most of the time, so your formula, like most formulas, is not relevant. Jones has played pretty well and most important, she provides provides strength and defensive savvy down low, so these continued critiques are very tiresome.

"Continued critiques" is being generous. We're talking about nits being picked just as the team is peaking and heading in to the medal round. Agree they're very tiresome.

How many WNBA games have you actually seen? Tina Charles would have a better idea...

Why do you come her and persist in posting negative stuff? Do you hate Geno and UConn that much? Why not just stay away if it's going to cause you to be so negative and snarky? I'm serious. You're welcome to post here but you've not contributed one positive thought or comment as best as I can recall. Team USA seems to be peaking at the right time? Are you not okay with that?

I was referring not specifically to just you by misunderstanding the role of 11th and 12th players. I see a lot of misunderstanding about how teams are constructed and player development may be the biggest disconnect that many fans have from coaches.

By using the examples of Nneka and EDD you were talking about undeveloped players. Why EDD is still undeveloped if the standard is the national team I think is obvious. If you want to ignore that Nneka hadn't played a minute of WNBA ball before the team was named, I suggest thinking why not a single one of the typical American power forwards was named to the Olympic team and why that type of player is basically non-existent in international basketball. Brunson, Dupree, Sophia Young, and Crystal Langhorne all didn't make the team.

Scotter, I certainly didn't mean that we should have undeveloped players on the Olympic team that were potentially deserving but were chosen only to give them experience; perish the thought. I'm speaking of present day stars with the likelihood / certainty of being considered the next superstars and are perhaps there already, combined with the vigor of youth.
For this exercise, I am ignoring the whole pool thing.

I wonder: are we going to see many more "guests" on our board, which is still free, than we have in the past.

Wow - I started this thread as a tribute to USA Women's basketball and the joy I get as a Uconn fan seeing ALL the players playing well, enjoying themselves and uniting as ONE team with one GOAL and without egos about individual stats.
Degenerated a bit.

For some, there will always be negatives associated with this team. If it's not composition of the team -- an issue that will never go away -- it's who's starting or who's getting the proper amount of minutes or who played poorly in one game, etc. I don't understand it, but this is an open board and people can post what they want.

I appreciated your tribute to the team and I'm thrilled with how they're playing. They can always improve on certain aspects of the game (making layups and open shots), but the team is playing better D, sharing the ball and not turning the ball over as much. It's all good.

Did you notice the "F" next to her name? She is a FORWARD. A very good one, but she is not a "C" in the international arena.

You have the most inaccurate screen name I've seen. There is no truth to what you post, just a lot of bias.

Parker has been LA's starting center in every game she has played in and is listed by USA BASKETBALL as a G/F/C. And Geno, as evident by the game against Canada, has clearly realized Parker is one of his two best options at center with Fowles ailing. Who's inaccurate now? (Hint: look in the mirror, mutt.)

(BTW, for future reference, if you're trying to prove to someone what a player's position is, using an unofficial box score from WNBA.com really isn't the best way to go about it...)

Why all the fuss about who is starting? What the hell difference
does it make?

The object is to win games. So far, so good.

If they lose - that would be the appropriate time to carp about
coaching decisions, etc.

You do realize the purpose of a message board, right?
The quote your refer to was in response to mine re the original intent of this particular thread - praise for all the players and seeing them all as TEAM USA and not through college colored lenses. We all realize what a message board is.
As for your comments about Parker - she may be the LA center, but on team USA she is playing almost exclusively as forward with Charles, Fowles, or Jones at the center spot. She is having a great Olympics and is actually playing better off the bench than she did starting in my opinion. I thought she had the hardest time early finding her role and understanding the coaching - her having missed the 2010 WC I think showed. Now she is past the 'learning phase' and is playing fast and with a lot of confidence. A pleasure to watch.

_______________

Miami - I deleted the post to which you're responding, as we don't need gratuitous snark from TTB directed at respected posters. Since you composed a thoughtful response, TTB's can live on in your quote. -- JS

Mutt? I'm not a mod, but I sure think you have worn out your welcome.

She's not a center.

And, for future reference, if you are trying to prove how good a player is, it's really not the best way to use ONE boxscore to do it. Charles is a much better center than Parker.
