Unrivaled starts tonight! Who ya got??

Aaliyah and DiJonai are on the same team and therefore likely practice against each other. Do you think Aa reminds DiJoinai that "it" wasn't a foul? ;)

A funny sideplot to the Unrivaled season. Marina Mabrey learning how to cook with more seasons than just salt and pepper. Every time she posts a new video, I'm howling. :D

Marina has always used the kitchen and kitchen metaphors as a way of making a point.
Remember her remarks after ND won the NC in 2018:
“To all the male women’s basketball haters, y’all can get in the kitchen and make us a sandwich now, thanks,” Mabrey tweeted.

All this continues under the "This is My Kitchen" enterprise she set up. And, yes, the videos are a hoot;

Not going to lie, she is far from my favorite player, but mad respect for putting this together. Love the "put 'em in their place" vibes.

I get that. Marina is a bit of an, ahem, an acquired taste. ;)
However, she's one of those players that if she's on her team, you love her. She gave up being a scorer when Thompson went down and she volunteered to be lead guard. Was a lifesaver. But if you're a fan of another team, well I get that, too.
Plus, I grew up on Long Island and now live in New Jersey. I know lots of folks like that......I'm very familiar with this vibe. It's a Tri-State area vibe. Get outta my kitchen, dude.

But, at heart, she works hard on behalf of what she believes in...and the cooking tie-ins are a hoot. Plus, the two times I've had talks with her, she's approachable and fun to talk to.

Smith is now part of the Mist, but I haven't been able to determine who she's replacing.

I don’t know whether to laugh because it’s so very funny, or cringe because it’s the stereotypical ‘women who can’t cook’ joke.

It's totally okay to laugh from my point of view. It's like those videos of people from the same culture who taste each other's cooking and rate them afterwards. Some of those clips have me dying because of the reactions.

I guess Notre Dame hasn’t heard of the commandment “Thou shalt not make cheese sauce with orange cheese.” Or maybe it’s a New Jersey thing.

I’ve got no beef with Marina. I always liked Michaela, and I guess that just transferred to little sister.

Help a Canadian out here. ;). Cheddar can be orange and white, which is awesome for home made macaroni and cheese.

Are you referring to American cheese? It's a lot different from any cheese/cheddar I've ever tasted.

LOL, this is the first time I heard there is another WBA league.

History

The league was founded in 2023 by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, in part to allow WNBA players to play domestically and to bypass complications from the WNBA's prioritization rule for players who choose to play overseas in the WNBA offseason. Unrivaled's inaugural season is slated to begin on January 17, 2025, in Miami, Florida[1] with plans for the 2026 season to have games played across the United States.[2]

The league announced Stewart as the first signed player on July 9, 2024.[3]

Kayla McBride and Tip Hayes have been FUN to watch in this game! Seeing AT relentlessly bully Hamby has been--something. The Laces are the team to beat!

All this without Jackie Young (so far)!:eek::eek:

Nope, orange cheddar. Makes the sauce look like Velveeta. :p

It’s probably just my New England upbringing. I never saw orange cheddar till I was well into my teens.

Something I haven't seen mentioned is that Napheesa was on the (PBS) Newshour, I think Thursday night. One thing she said that hadn't really occurred to me is that, with players making more on endorsements than in WNBA salary, going overseas removes them from the public eye, thus reducing the value of endorsements, for half the year. One of the motivations for Unrivaled was to keep the players around to help them earn more in endorsements.

Never thought of that and that's a huge thing when it comes to marketing.

If you had told me that the Mist would be winless at this point I would've said you were crazy. Looks like the Laces and Lunar Owls are the teams to beat.
I only watched the first game and caught a bit of others - do you think it's personnel matchups or coaching?

I missed Saturday but was thinking the same thing Friday night.

The Laces and Lunar Owls are much more in tune with each other. I'm enjoying their play a lot. I've been a fan of McBride and Thomas, but watching them play together has been a lot of fun.

The same for Diggins and Collier with the Owls. There's an interesting synergy with that roster. Everytime I hear "Hootie Who", I'm waiting for Missy Elliott's song "Pass that Dutch" to start though.

The Midwest likes orange cheese. My boss was married to a guy from the Midwest and he insisted on the orange stuff. Seems unnatural.

A nice highlight clip of Kate Martin. I agree with the poster. The music selection is top notch. :D

Check out the stats.

So far Napheesa is dominating this league. #1 in scoring, rebounds and blocks, and #3 in steals!!

Looking forward to Napheesa's Lunar Owls vs. Laces on 1/31, battle of the unbeatens.
