A) Who cares about a single heisman trophy almost 30 years ago

B) Does this really impress you?

And they suck at basketball.

But yeah Houston's great though good luck to them

That's not bad, the P5 has made it evidently clear basketball is distant 2nd or 3rd. We're really not in a position to knock Houston's FB accomplishments but whatever. I think we'd be a better addition to a conference over them, but their FB history compared to us, is no contest.

The Cotton Bowl between ND and Houston in 1979 basically launched Joe Montana's career. From Wiki:

"On January 1, 1979, Notre Dame returned to the Cotton Bowl, this time against Houston. Montana's performance in the 1979 Cotton Bowl, which came to be known as the "Chicken Soup Game", is one of the most celebrated of his entire football career. During the second quarter, Montana had to fight off hypothermia as his body temperature dropped to 96 degrees. When the second half began with Houston up 20–12, Montana stayed in the locker room, where Notre Dame medical staff gave him warmed intravenous fluids, covered him in blankets, and most famously, fed him chicken soup. Montana returned to the field late in the third quarter with Houston leading 34-12. Montana led the Irish to three touchdowns in the last eight minutes of the game, the final one coming as time expired, and Notre Dame won the game 35–34. To commemorate the game, Notre Dame produced a promotional film titled Seven and a Half Minutes to Destiny, which Coach Devine later referred to as a "Joe Montana film."

Please spare us from any comments re: the academic standing of the ACC. They took Louisville - remember? They obviously don't give a * about academics.

Wow, just because they took Louisville doesn't mean they don't give a * about academics. And if you read my post the #1 reason I said was about their market size and lack of value to a conference network. Louisville does not have that problem. They draw huge ratings (especially in basketball) and have a decent (albeit not huge) market. And the market is not duplicated at all by another team.

Um, yes? Am I impressed by 23 bowl appearances including 4 Cotton Bowls back when that was on par with the Sugar and Rose Bowl in terms of stature? You're darn right I am.

What do UCF/Memphis/Cincy have to hang their hats on?

Also LOL at the 1952 "Salad Bowl."

23 bowl appearances in 63 years, though.

no, we don't have anywhere near the history but we've been to 5 bowl games in like 10 years (including a BCS bowl), so we're actually shooting a better percentage

and yeah the salad bowl is great.

.-.
He's right, there is only one No. 49 DMA in the country, and it's Louisville. No duplicate there.

I'm pretty sure that I could be sitting on the steps of Louisville's town hall and see more UK fans than Louisville fans.

In fairness, Louisville is crazy for the Cards. But that's like walking into New London and being shocked by all the UConn fans.

You guys are missing the point. I'm not saying there's not UK fans in Louisville. But a decent portion of the WVU fanbase is in the Pittsburgh metro which is ALREADY IN the ACC. That's what matters for conference TV networks, not duplicating networks. It's the same reason Cincinnati will never be in the B1G, because it duplicates part of the B1G Network.

OK, admittedly, this is way less ridiculous than what I thought you were saying.

Still stupid, because "duplication" is about total eyeballs, not conference eyeballs.

Think UK fans want to pay for an "ACC Network" so the cards minority can see it?
