UConn's George Springer (I think this is baseball related)

Orlovsky gave him a shoutout on the MNF game when he hit it.....but misses a HUGE opportunity to say "UConn representing!!"

It’s a nice factoid, but honestly it has no historical significance. The expansion of the playoffs (3/5 to 4/7) to also include all the wild card and lds,lcs has really diluted this stat imo

Mantle is only tied for 9th with 18….but they were ALL in the WS…as there was not even an lcs when he played

Feel free to post the info for most HR's in WS history.

Interesting factoid, if Mantle had to play a divisional player, and LCS every time just to get to the WS, he'd have less WS HR's.

Agree, but he would have played a lot more games in the playoffs under the current system

One overlooked aspect to his career is he is like third all time in post season home runs and honestly with like one more run through the playoffs he would have an outside chance of being the best post season hitter of all time
6 of those should come with a heavy asterisk. He got some of the most help of anyone on the 2017 Astros

From two years prior to Mantle making it to the majors through Mantle's fourteenth season the Yankees only missed the world series twice and once was due to a team winning a then record number of regular season games while the Yankees won a then record number of regular season games for a non-division winner. They were that dominant.

Unless somehow playing a playoff round or two prior to the world series would have somehow limited what he could have done in the world series, the only way your statement works would be with the premise that a lesser AL team would have knocked them from a couple (or more) world series appearances that they had. Not only would that have been very unlikely, it also opens the possibilities of a) beating the 1959 miracle White Sox in the playoffs and b) knocking off the 1954 Indians (who couldn't beat the Giants) and giving Mantle even more opportunities.

And his dad.George, former UConn football player!
I didn’t realize he played football. He was in the class behind me at Bristol Eastern. He was a pitcher in baseball and we played against each other in the summer leagues. I’m pretty sure he was on the Forestville Little League team (part of Bristol) that went to Williamsport as well. There were only four US teams that made it back then.

Yeah but Mantle got them into a lot of World Series

Obviously neither of us can prove or disprove what would have happened if the Yanks had to play multiple rounds to get to the WS. Even if they were favored every round for every year, historical info suggests a few upsets. And yes, the Yanks could have upset other teams the years they didn't have the better record, but the balance is not in theor favor

Hit .500 this postseason don’t disrespect the god

As a casual fan, this is the lasting image I have of Judge in the postseason. Is it fair? No, but I grew up a Red Sox fan.

I do appreciate that Judge is at the apex of modern baseball but the guy has to win a World Series to cement his legacy as an all-timer.

That was crazy last night. I could see the adrenaline seeping out of his pores. He couldn't calm himself down he was so amped. The last half of his year has been legendary. Here's this:

Even though I am Yankees fan and Springer seems to kill them, this photo just made me a bigger Springer fan
