I think everyone agrees...the Big East is good for UConn basketball...and UConn will become competitive.

Football? How indy works for UConn is still in the future...but could it worse than UConn's AAC experience?

I have no hard feelings against providence. They deff gave us some tuff games during the REGULAR season and during the Gomes years , providence had our number a couple seasons(see Calhoun/Gomes rant) - but for providence fans to even be in our stratosphere with debating or talking junk - u guys need to have at least advanced past the first round (besides the one year u lost to unc in 2015) Since 1998. With that being said I have no doubt providence and Uconn will have some great battles in the years to come but , overall, it’s kind of hard to debate with a team that doesn’t have the track record we do - and I don’t mean that in an insulting way at all

Why do I have to do better than that? What else would you like - how many BE championships even though you've been in the league longer - regular season, tourney champs? What would you like me to compare a programs success to please help me out I will reply. ECAC championships? LOL, how many of our players beat one of their own with a tire iron or alike? Tell me J

I agree. All in good fun- even tho I may take it seriously sometimes lol. But it’s deff much more fun arguing with a providence fan or nova fan than Tulsa or Houston. When we were in the Big East, I wud always root for the big East teams to go far in the tournament - it is just what you did back then -conference affiliation meant everything -(Remember the big East vs ACC debates?) even though you hated some of those teams you’d definitely rather see a Syracuse /Villanova /Providence in the final four than a team like Duke - not even close. Go UConn. And then if UConn gets knocked out/ go big East!!!

Wait a second JB how would you know if it's more fun with them than a Houston or Tulsa fan? I mean we never saw a fan here did we from the AAC minus kobe of Cincy? :D

Come on man, you must have more, how about when Eric Murdock stole Tate George's GF? That was a great game. Or how about when the student section in Providence tossed out a 12" black sexual toy right in the middle of Emeka Okafor's FT, that the players just looked at and the ref had to pick up? Or how about when an ingenious PC fan put urinal cakes with JC's likeness in one of the men's rooms urinals so all the UConn fans had to whiz on him in order to use the urinals?

Nobody in the conference has your track record so you are just going to have to lower yourself to allow for trash talking or you can just sit on your throne and reminisce about the past.

Yes....but being brought in to Ohio State for a payday and a loss is on the table for Akron, Tulsa, Arkansas State, Toledo, Western Kentucky, and Ball State.

UConn has to do something with the opportunity....or it becomes just another of those teams brought in and paid as a guaranteed home win.

Well, I was referring to the amount of money. That is what they need to do something useful with. I recall thinking that it was a lot.

To be fair though it’s 1.95 mil, it’s a much bigger payday than most buy games. The scheduling thus far has gone better than I expected. More BYU level than Umass.
 
The money for Ohio State is good....but I think, long term, that playing well is more important for the Huskies than a payday.

Play well, win respect, get better recruits, win more...and you can build a program.
 
Costs are going up...Ohio State is paying Ball State $1.9 million for the game....$1.8 million to WKU and Arkansas State.

I would have rooted for the Taliban over Syracuse. And going forward I won’t be pulling for Nova or St John’s unless they are playing Duke or Syracuse. It’s been tough sledding rooting for AAC teams in Match. Granted we were no help of late.

The steal by Murdoch was nice, the toy lame, the cake very lame and jealousy labeled. Only a PC fan would call this move ingenious. It was so ingenious I never even heard about it. But did I hear about PC fans eating yellow sponge cake after a game? Hmmmm

Clemson is paying Troy $1.5 million....costs have gone up to buy games .

Clemson has cheaper fill ins from in-state schools....Furman, The Citadel, etc.

I dunno, I find the urinal cake prank pretty funny. I'd love it if I heard about Boeheim cakes in the Carrier Dome urinals.

However, if I heard about whoever-PC's-coach-is cakes in the Dunk, I'd just be like, "Why? Who cares?"

Only the B1G did they not have a winning record last year and it was .500 they also get that metric for the most part by not having OOC shedules in the 300’s and then lastly they get that ranking by being solid top to bottom. None of it is just handed to them. Each and every school in that league worked their proverbial butts off to achieve those rankings. You will benefit from the work that has gone into it the previous 7 years and you will have to earn your standing like each and every team does.

My favorite thing about this thread is the apprent prevailing idea that these teams are the same ones from a decade ago.

I wonder, if Big East teams "dominated other conferences in OOC" and "were solid top to bottom"...in the last NCAA, why no BE team made the Sweet 16 ?

Is it really favorable computer algorithmns ?

.....the Big East tournament record was 1-4.

To me...solid would look more like the ACC's tourney record last year...


Five to the Sweet 16, two to the Elte Eight...one National Champion.

In 2018...Nova's NC year...One BE team (Nova) made it to the sweet 16 and it was Nova....who went on through to win it.

In 2017...it was Xavier who made the Sweet 16 (lost).

In 2016....Nova made the Sweet 16 and won it all.

Looks like one strong team has come out of the Big East in each of the last three tourneys.
