If you want to understand overpaying then google "Brett Bielema".

Dropping a fortune on a dude for the sake of it is cargo cultish. So glad you aren't in charge.

You're right. Let's go cheap and hire an FCS guy, because as we know all of them who have had a modicum of success are just like Tressel. We have so much time to get this thing turned around.

and easy on the "cultish" crap too Zoo. We have to use search firms because "everybody else does it" but paying the market rate is now spending money stupidly. Jesus

Ruskin please explain how (and why) you tie a contract to TV revenue. What power does a coach have over this?

It's telling a coach that if he succeeds like Charlie Strong he will be richer beyond his wildest dreams. Think of a movie guy who passed up a flat salary for a cut of the ticket revenue and scored big. It's recognizing the reality that football success will get UConn into a P5. Seems like the guy who makes that happen ought to get a cut when the payday comes.

I don't get the infatuation with Addazio. Sure, he is a high energy guy, but he has not proven himself as a head coach and he certainly never established himself as a good OC. His first year at Temple, he benefited from Al Golden's turnaround and recruits and Bernard Pierce, a top RB. His second year, he was 4-7 and this year Temple is worse. Where are Addazio's recruits at Temple?

Look at BC this year. He inherited a senior dominated team and he inherited the top RB in the country in Andre Williams. Record of 7-5. Next year should be very tough as the QB, RB, FB, top WR, both OTs, both DEs, one DT, 2 LBs, and the punter and kicker are all seniors. He has no proven ability to recruit and develop a whole team, so let's see how it goes.

All fair points.

Oh please, spending 50k to outsource some crafty legwork is not the same thing as spending 3 mil on some guy who has never been a HC "just to show that we are bigtime".

Your switch is stuck on stupid.

This list look familiar? . . . I know it's hard to get past the conference thing but c'mon. Do a blind test between TV markets, size of fan base etc and UConn's is a better job and needs to be sold as such. Clearing the Edsall bar here is going to be a lot easier than clearing the Grobe bar down there. The coach who goes to Wake is going to be the fourth-biggest fish in that Carolina pond.

Actually Wake is the 5th biggest fish in the Carolina pond, ECU draws considerably more interest than Wake in football , and the program is growing.

There is absoutely zero reason to go nuclear with the s-word. We disagree on the search firm thing and we're not going to convince each other (by the way, it's closer to 100K). I'm sorry I even used Parker's name in earlier post.

The "market rate" isn't 3 million, I'm thinking more between 2 and 2.5 million with incentives. That's what it's going to take to get a Narduzzi to come here. BTW you're also being way overconfident about Lembo or Narduzzi bolting after if they had two years of success here. If they can be lured here, they can be lured to stay here.

Addazio is an absolute fireball, as a recruiter. I saw it during Jonathan Meyers' (went to Princeton) senior year at Greenwich. He was on the sidelines during one or two Greenwich games; something guys from other schools were mumbling about, believe me. He was high fiveing and spanking fannies. He was all over the place. The prior summer, he had shown the Greenwich coaching staff how to use their wing-T run blocking schemes in a spread offense. The guy knows how to sell his product.
Imagine you are a parent of a D1 prospect and say your hometown is Lynn, Mass just north of Boston, and Addazio comes for a home visit. You like the guy, as your son does, but after Addazio leaves one thing sticks in your head. You are debating sending your son to a school that is not only 4 hours north of NYC, but with the exception of Syracuse which is 5 or 6 hours west of Boston, all the schools your son will play are south of Philadelphia, or 20 hours west you (Pitt). Addazio is a great great recruiter but he recruits from a huge disadvantage, that's why he hates it there. He would not worry me nor should he worry a coach like Narduzzi.

Drove to Pitt for a wedding last year because we were not bringing a 3 month old on a plane. Even when stopping for diaper changes and sit down meals, Pitt is only 9 hours by car from Eastern CT. Not a short trek by any means, but it is not 20 hours away.

You should just be the athletic director then. Just make Narduzzi an offer and it's done deal right?

There is nowhere they can go that doesn't have that issue and it's worse at UConn.

Other than Temple where is the drivable game for UConn fans next year?

I was thinking same thing... Pretty sure Temple should be @ the Rent next year. Only reasonable drive would be Army @ Yankee Stadium?

Hell... Pretty sure Temple should be @ the Rent next year. Only reasonable drive would be Army @ Yankee Stadium?

Well I meant how many conference mates are within driving distance. Not specific to next year. The answer is Temple. The only other drivable game down the road is Navy. And that's if they join this miserable conference.

If Mora takes UW, Does DeRuyter go into play for ?UCLA w/ others (Franklin, Petersen? etal). May still be "available" all said and done. UConn needs UW to move ahead sooner than later to bring the falling west coast dominoes closer to the end.

BREAKING Jim Mora will the remain the head coach at #UCLA, source told CBS.#Washington

UCLA has announced a contract extension for Jim Mora through 2019.

I'm intrigued by DeRuyter. Wonder if Petersen bites @ UDub?

For a guy that hates his recruiting disadvantage, he is doing a pretty good job. Rivals has BC at #35 and ESPN has them at #38 for his first recruiting class. BTW, where do you get that he hates it at BC?

Distance does not play a factor for most recruits. If it did, would Uconn have successfully recruited Alabama, FL, PA, etc. the way they did in the past (PP years excepted)? If your kid is getting a full ride, most parents figure out a way to get a lot of the games. If you ever go to a distant away game, you will see this first hand.

Not only does it not play a role in away games, but if a kid is getting a full ride, distance to home games often does not matter. Big E(ric Hayward) was my next door neighbor in Alumni my Freshman year. The first and last home game his mother saw him play live took place on Senior Night. Likewise their are parents that will spare zero expense getting to everyone of their kids' games even if they play half of them 1,000 miles away.

Yeah. Not exactly brain surgery. Worst thing he can say is no.

Too bad people aren't climbing aboard your 'Pimp Ambrose' "let's look back where we've been" train.

As much as I'd like to make a splash with a big-time name like Narduzzi, I'm wary of the West Virginia experience. They were soundly lauded for picking up Holgerson who was considered the next sure thing offensive genius / head coach in waiting and so far it hasn't worked out too well. I don't know how they beat Ok State this year but losing to Kansas should be considered a total embarrassment.

Holgerson just got the vote of confidence from Luck by the way. If he doesn't win next year I think they are going to look through a lot of un-burnt couches in West Virginia to find the change to pay him out.

I don't think you understand the recruiting ratings. BC is ranked 36 on Rivals right now because they have 23 recruits. The only school rated below them with more recruits is Western Michigan. Schools like UCLA, Nebraska, USC, and Washington are currently rated below BC because they only have about half as many recruits right now as BC. When the final recruiting ratings are in, BC will have a recruiting class at about 50 or higher.

We'll see. I guess I am the only one dumb enough to keep arguing with you. Not to my credit.

Maybe if you didn't choose to escalate/make it personal for pretty much no good reason the whole thing wouldn't have started.

Don't forget, Wake Forest, despite all its disadvantages, manhandled UConn pretty good in the Mieneke Car Care bowl in 2007.........when UConn had Lorenzen and Donald Brown.

I wouldn't be so quick to put Wake Forest down.

Coaches, when interested in changing jobs, you would think would want to go to an institution where they have a good chance to succeed. Who would the better talented student athletes want to play against.......teams in the ACC, or teams in the AAC.

If Vanderbilt can succeed in the SEC with all its academic disadvantages to recruiting, Wake Forest can succeed in the ACC with a good coach. Vanderbilts disadvantages didn't stop Franklin from taking that job, and look what he has done in the last three years. They have played very competitively this year, EVEN in its losses to SEC teams.
2007? I have a 2007 Volvo. It has over 100K miles on it.
It was a long time ago, and many miles back when my car was new.

are you suggesting my volvo is the same car today as it was 7 years ago?
