UConn vs. MSU Game Thread

I thought UConn missed too many bunnies
I thought UConn missed too many FT's
I thought UConn got killed on the boards.
When MSU inbounded the ball, after Chongs miss UConn was making sure that Williams didnt get the ball. With Vivians fouled out there was only one player who was going to get the ball. Dont let her beat you. They slacked off her a bit and boom.

You win as a team and you lose as a team.

Feel like I'm in volnation reading this thread all night the whining ang blaming players of choking fair weather fans
This team has exceeded all expectations this year. They have played with heart and passion. They have played under tremendous pressure all season and lost by two points in the final second of the overtime in a Final Four game. The people who posted on this site and congratulated themselves repeatedly on how great "our" team and coach we're during the past 111games need to thank each and every one of these players for the year they have given "us." The carping, whining, and abuse being meted by the various posters on this site ( and you know who you are) is an embarrassment and reflects how unworthy these so-called fans are of one of the greatest programs in the history of college athletics. Shame on each and every one of you. You are not remotely worthy to be discussing Napheesa Collier or Saniya Chong, much less pass judgment on them.

Strangely, this is pretty much what I was hoping for and expecting at the beginning of the season. Make the Final Four but not win it all. Did not think UConn would be quite as good as Baylor, ND, SC this year. But oh did they impress me. 111-game winning streak and 10th consecutive Final Four. Not too shabby.

.-.
I'm ok. Remember what this team was projected to do preseason. 4 in a row is crazy. 5 would have be out of this world. Time to reload. Great run

This has been a fabulous season...

Gonna miss Saniya...she played a great game and was as responsible for this miracle year as anyone...WNBA, did you see that slide step?

Gabby is worth the price of an NBA ticket...really hope Atlanta has a crack at her after next year...

Kia...the NCAA tournament phenom, and the team's cool, calm center...

Napheesa and Lou, you guys made this the year that was like a Christmas gift from a long lost uncle...totally unexpected and breathtakingly exciting...can't believe we have you guys for two more years...can you say new streak?

Danger...you just got a glimpse of the summit...that's how it's done in the rare air...can't wait to see you at the reigns next year...

Big steps this year, Natalie...improve as much next year and with your soft touch you will be a force...

Already can't wait for next year...thank you all, ladies...this may be the most fun I've had watching a UConn team!

There is just no excuse for the mental errors. Especially coming out of a timeout. At the absolute worst we should have been playing in double OT.
No excuse? How many times have you ridden a 111 game winning streak and 4 consecutive championships in anything? Now put every great that's ever worn a school jersey in the stands, knowing you're playing for their legacy, too.

Gosh, what possible reason could there be for making a mistake?

Shoot just 75% on free throws and turn it over "only" ten times and UConn wins. But that didn't happen. Yelling during the game is mostly normal. Going gonzo afterwards does nothing for me. What happened, happened.

The ugly truth is that every single close game this team is in is rife with poor decisions and silly plays late: This one, Stanford, Notre Dame for the BE title and in South Bend in 2013...

Two late timeouts tonight and what happens? Collier and Chong basically run into one another and turn it over, then Chong rushes that shot with nowhere to go.

They play close games once in a blue moon and every time they do....

This was a collective loss, not just on Saniya... alot of missed opportunities... MS just played a better game. They weren't as tenative, they hustled more. I think we were overwhelmed... And like Geno said... now some of them have experienced this feeling... what doesn't kill you makes you stronger... They played amazing all year. Losing one game takes nothing away. All this will do is feed the fire for next year.

I love you huskies :)

Clearly you should be coaching UConn because your knowledge and acumen far exceed that of the current coach.

UConn is the best program in wcbb. Geno is the ultimate coach as is Chris Dailey. Your team fell short of the ultimate expectation this year (the National Championship). So what. This is normal for most programs. You lost 3 AA's last year and your young team made it to the Final Four. They were awesome.

They outplayed you tonight. Doesn't mean you don't have the best team - you do. Just not tonight and unfortunately it cost you the National Championship. It happens.

Sure, your right. Outplayed to the point that it took a last second shot in OT to beat us. It took one of our worst games too. I will not take credit away from MS, they played great and deserve it. However missing easy shots at the glass among other things just has our heads scratching because it just was not seen (hardly) this year.

Don't quite understand why Lou wasn't more involved in the offense. I realize her tourney was a bit sub par for her, but on last possession it should have been first option Lou, Gabby 2nd and Kia 3rd, full stop.

Oh well when you are lucky enough to win 111 the snake is going to bite you sometime.

It will be kinda embarrassing if, as expected, UConn cleans up on the WBCA AA awards. Tonight's game isn't something you should get on the wall for.

Feel bad for the team. They were a part of history and just fell short of completing an incredible season. Of course they will be back and I look forward to watching them start another chapter.

Congrats to Mississippi St for making their own history tonight.

Why? Those awards aren't based on "ONE" game in your season. They worked their butts off all year. All the other teams but one will have their seasons end with a loss too.

They played like they were trying to protect the title. But it is so thoroughly understandable. They played tight, but who in their right mind can't understand that? It was a great season, and though I am so disappointed, I had tremendous fun watching them this year. And next year is going to be great.

Of course you are right, but you lost tonight. Why did your team play so badly? Was the pressure too much? Did your girls choke? Was the gameplay wrong? Certainly it wasn't on the coach. IMO, if you just lower your expectations to normal level, I think you will find that your women just didn't perform as well as the MSU women tonight. I am as shocked as any of you that UConn lost, but as I watched the game, it became apparent to me that you probably would lose this game. And you did. You won't have 5 in a row and your win streak is ended, but you are still the best program in wcbb and you are amazing.

Free throws killed us. We just needed one of the misses to go in. Pheesa's eyes looked so big the whole game. I'm so upset because we had our chances even though this will make next year more enjoyable. I haven't read all of the posts in here, but does anyone else think that the back door was open. I'm no coach, but it seemed they were really denying up close all game and it worked because we never tried to go back door. Again I could be totally wrong, just looked open to me.

No embarrassment at all. They will be enshrined on the wall at Gampel for a season that gave us more than most of us thought possible.

I stated facts about close games. If you don't like it, fine. Doesn't change the fact that in at least each of their last 4 losses they made one head-scratching decision after another down the stretch. You wanna blame all those on the players, all on the coach, some on both? Doesn't matter to me, but they certainly took place.

Nice to see so many former players in the crowd, has anyone seen Mo this year?

when karlie got injured my immediate thought was katie lou.would it affect her? and they showed uconn team watching stanford game in the 3rd qtr, the look in KLS face looking at karlie says it all.having watched collier and gabby and kia carried this team, i wasnt worried that much.
it so hard to watch napheesa struggling and lou not being lou.yes this is a young team, they lost the mental battle.lou lost it early with karlie's injury.
HUGE no call on that flagrant foul then calling it after msstate had one possession. really??
