UConn vs Illinois (Final Four)

Gonna wait a bit to get into it, but I really like this matchup. I just think this is the kind of team that plays into what we want to do.

I respect Illinois, but if you told all of us at the beginning of the tournament we could play Illinois to get to the national title game, I think we all would have signed up for it.

I also like that Michigan and Arizona have to play each other, and all the focus will be on that game.

For me, it's all gravy after beating Duke, the # 1 overall seed. Also, did Scheyer give credit to UConn in his post-game presser? I heard his opening comments and no credit to UConn. Maybe I missed it.

For sure, but Iowa would have been fire

It's going to 80/20 Illinois to UConn fans in Indy. I'm on their message board a lot and they're about to pack that place

I'm going to need some time to digest that last one before I can think about Illinois. But I can tell you that this going to be as close to a literal home game for Illinois as you can get.
Welcome back to the fold, champs

He declined when he was introduced and asked to make opening remarks and instead suggested the media ask questions of Cam Boozer.

When Boozer was excused and Scheyer was asked whether he thought about taking a timeout up two with ten seconds and in- bounding the ball he basically said the team needed to make a play. Threw them under the bus. I wonder what Carlos will have to say if he hears how the coach took no responsibility for how the game ended.

Scheyer made no remarks about UConn. He was focused on not taking any responsibility for the loss.

Everyone is saying “hold the ball” is all that had to be done. Not remotely true.

Anything less than hitting 2 free throws in a pressure situation and a tie or win was on the table for UConn. One seemingly open pass and none of that was needed.

It took a series of great plays (and athleticism) by UConn to make it a bad decision for the Monday morning QBs to jump all over then knowing the outcome.

For sure..

In fairness to him that is about as brutal a loss as you can experience. (Hilarious.)

But two years back to back taking a dump in your pantaloons and people start talking.
He's not guy. The damning video of him motioning for Boozer to pass up court. Not good.

Im no Einstein but even I expected them to stall the ball and NOT go past half court.

So stupid.

Four down .Two to go.. Hoping that CBS panel of "experts" keeps picking our opponents. Been working great for us.

Will be hearing about mismatches all week vs Illini. Bring it on. Need the chip on the shoulder.

Just to be clear it is the cbs crew with Barkley, that need to keep doing that.

I was watching CBS Sports crew with Wally S/Jon Rothstein, etc and they all are picking UConn over Illinois as the shot created some magic. .

Wally was even doing the start of the UConn Husky chant.

I was beyond disappointed that the network had to throw it to 60 minutes and no time for a post-game studio reaction from Charles Barkley and company....

I really dislike the crowd that says "tHaTs tHe 'rEal' nAtiONaL tiTLe gAmE". Always rubbed me the wrong way as it's super disrespectful to the other two teams that worked hard to get there. I think it was even said in 2004 about UConn/Duke, but you know, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma ST also worked hard to get to the final four. The 'real' national title game is always on Monday, point blank.

I've said this before about UConn titles and I was correct. With that said, it's a big IF as we need to handle business, but either Arizona or Michigan would be at least an 8 pt. favorite against us. They are playing like we did in 2023 and 2024.

Like Hurley said yesterday, we dominated. This is a different team. This team needs to scratch and claw out wins.

Not sure which team is better for us - Zona has seen us once, but I do think is the better matchup. We don't have much of an answer for Yaxel. He could easily guard Mullens, whereas not sure the reverse would go well. UM might be flummoxed seeing our offense for the first time and forced into a half court game. I also think Tarris could push Mara around better than he could Krivas.

Even so that will be fine. UM and AZ will bring a bunch of fans too in a very large venue where crowd noise is as less of a factor .

Maybe our shooters can find consistencies in making their shots with Tarris being a beast and we have a shot .

Campus is two hours way - Michigan is 4. That whole place is going to be Big10.
