Expect a pro-Illini/Big Ten crowd for our game due to proximity to Indy for their fan bases. Would be great for us to get out to an early first half lead and take their crowd out of the game.

It only hurts the mojo if you think it hurts the mojo. I don't. Didn't Illinois have a guy that couldn't be stopped last time UConn played in the tourney? I admit I only saw a few non-UConn minutes of Illinois and the looked like crap. I don't get the love. And don't forget what Boneyard-fave Dave Portnoy said about game last year:

"I respect and like UConn basketball. Having said that Florida -9.5 is my play of the tournament. Florida is awesome. UConn is way down this year. To me this line should be closer to 18. This is a reputation game."

the negative narrative is that the game comes down to shooting and we have not shot well at all. Illinois is the better shooting team.

Illinois and UConn shoot exactly the same percentage on threes, Illini just take more of them.

Predicted that Demary would be factor as I could see he was not "guarding" ankle but little rust! Also predicted Duke's guard was injected before game before and that his foot surgery ( March 7) , was not really ready but forced by injections, Sheyer was bragging what a "brave guy" he was but couldn't feel anything but was re-injuring the surgical site!
Demary will be on his game! Great confidence now as "3" pressure is off as they won with 1/19 in first half and were not out of game ( obviously) I believe they Illinois will have a "short ride" home but Finals will be a "dog fight" 🏀🏀

That is the dilemma - do you want a revenge game against our only out-of-conference loss, or a chance to be Big Ten champs?
 
I think UConn's 3PT shooting will be more like the end of the Duke game than the first 3/4's.
 
Ok lets get back to UConn vs Illinois.

For fun, I rewatched the MSG game from November. It was a bit strange seeing Jalen Stewart starting. Then remembered that it was Mullins first game (due to injury) and he didn't play much , only scoring on a single jumper. Also Reed was almost invisible and probably 50% of himself now. I remembered that Boswell scored a bunch, but for some reason Silas was a step slow to defend and was in foul trouble. Solo played well and we need him again. Wagler may replace Boswell's scoring in this one but that's ok. They both can't score 25.

Excited for this one !

I haven’t rewatched, but we ran our sets to perfection and were killing then. Boswell started scoring down 20 and cut into our lead but we controlled that game from early on.

Demary, Reed and Mullins weren’t anywhere near their peak of this season. If Silas is feeling better on his ankle, we’re going to be tough to beat.

Remember the days when it was said Hurley can't win a close game......

It feels like 80% of the "analysts" are picking Illinois because they've been playing well. I feel like we have an answer for anything they can throw at us. I love this matchup. Teams that are willing to run the half court without pressuring the ball, bring it. That's where coaching matters.

Illinois doesn't play aggressive defense and doesn't force turnovers. Our offense runs very smoothly against those types of teams.
